Honestly Blackbeard is such a great villain and he’s a real pirate. He’s evil and he lurks in the background and he cheats to accomplish his goals . We still don’t know much about him and it only makes him more interesting, he’s not some fully invincible monster but he’s a mastermind at manipulating and controlling the narrative to his benefit

Blackbeard is the most cunning villain in One Piece, he kept to the shadows of a Yonko's crew for decades and somehow managed to never gain a bounty, became a Warlord despite having a zero bounty, used his Warlord title to gain access to Impel Down and recruited some of the most heinous criminals in history, and now he acquired two of the most powerful devil fruits in the world.

The Crazy Part: Blackbeards power makes him take in damage more so than others. In Pokemon Terms, it’s like every hit being a Super Effective Move. He took hits from Whitebeard and Sengoku at 2x damage and is still standing. He truly was the Dark Trojan Horse in terms of hiding his capabilities.

I absolutely love Crocodile's portrayal here. It reminds us that pretty much all pirates absolutely hate the Marines and don't want to see them win.

The Emperors are not chosen by the Navy, rather they get the title when they are acknowledged by the World Government as someone that shouldn't be provoked carelessly. They are so powerful that could destroy entire islands or possibly the world if they wanted to.

To give credit where credit's due, throughout the war Kizaru always seemed ready to pounce at openings and disrupt people at key moments. I'm guessing that he doesn't seem to do much most of the time because his role among the admirals during this battle was to watch for opportunities for surgical strikes. Also, it bears to keep in mind that for all their power, the admirals are not invulnerable and this battlefield contains a good number of people who can actually hurt them in their elemental forms, they can't afford to risk themselves by attacking recklessly.

Everything about Blackbeard defies what people in One Piece see as the norm: -a pirate who technically still has a zero bounty at this point -a Logia who does not gain the typical Logia invulnerability (apart from Haki and niche vulnerabilities like Crocodile, Enel, and Ace) -a DF user whose primary power is to negate and pull in other DF users and their powers -a DF user who now has TWO different DF powers in his arsenal -someone with the name of D who according to Whitebeard acts nothing like any of the other D’s we have seen thus far other than expressing some desire for freedom (chiefly, he wasn’t smiling when faced with near certain death unlike Luffy, Ace, and Saul, though that could be tied to something else I’m bringing up). Blackbeard also proving to be an antithesis to Luffy in that he now has a crew of 10 people with him too and becoming a Warlord after Luffy proclaimed himself the eighth Warlord (though no one of import was around to make that proclamation “Big News” so to speak). What’s most unnerving about Blackbeard other than the multiple personality theory is that as someone indirectly pointed out to me, Blackbeard seems to have some innate understanding about how the fates in this world works and what the fates have in store for him, something no one else in One Piece has been able to display, which is why he seems to be able to keep powering through everything despite taking more damage from any incoming attacks than most normal individuals. It’s why he always appears to be so confident with his plans despite it being so general compared to the likes of Crocodile and Baroque Works. On paper, his grand plan to get Whitebeard’s DF power and become the strongest person in the world isn’t very calculated beyond “join the Whitebeard Pirates and get the Dark Dark Fruit”. A lot of it seems to rely on chance with that and even after that: the chance that the Whitebeard pirates get ahold of that fruit and no one else eats it first. The chance that some cocky DF user with a high enough bounty comes a long that he can use to gain Warlord status. The chance that someone with an antidote to cure Magellan’s poison would be able to administer it to his crew in the event that the prison breakout he was planning went south. The chance that Whitebeard and his crew would be weakened and fatigued enough that he can get the kill on Whitebeard and take his DF. Seems like a lot of things would have to work out in Blackbeard’s favor for all that to happen, and in a sense it did: Thatch finding the Dark Dark Fruit, encountering Luffy in Mock Town, Luffy being Ace’s brother, Ace being the son of Roger and a Whitebeard Pirate (though Blackbeard also helped with that last part in convincing Ace to take the Second Division commander seat. I forget if that’s anime exclusive though), Shiryu getting released by Magellan, all the injuries Whitebeard sustained in the war and using up his stamina with such extensive use of his powers. But what if someone knew that was how things would play out, or rather what if someone had knowledge that no matter what happened to him and his crew things would always turn out in his favor? That person could get away with a lot of things, even with the most general of plans, and he has shown no indication to awakening to Mantra like Enel, Aisia, or Luffy have. Very few if any individuals can see as far ahead as Blackbeard seemingly does.

The World Government and Sengoku schemed to murder Ace and Whitebead to end the pirate era and enforce "peace". But by doing so they accidentally handed both Whitebeard and Blackbeard the tools to create an era that's potentially even more chaotic and tumultuous. The WG really made everything worse for themselves, and it's something they absolutely deserve because they brought it all on themselves.

Blackbeard is one of the most humane and realistic villains. He fights when its beneficial and runs when he has to. He is dirty, cunning and vile, but he is also determined and passionate about his desires. He both plans ahead and wings it as he can. He is so similar to luffy, yet the complete opposite, and more, he is so human. Like, IRL you can very well think of a guy like Blackbeard.

One of the main reasons it seems like people aren't doing stuff is because of pacing and budget constraints. During marine Ford there are tons of fights that are simply assumed to be going on off screen between Division commanders and the Admirals and so on. Tons of the events we are seeing are actually happening at exactly the same time but spread across multiple episodes. Marineford is only 30 chapters that have been stretched to over 30 episodes. If it was paced like early one piece it would be 15 episodes and if it was paced sensibly it would only be 10 and if the Series was being directed back then the way it is now a lot of the off panel fights would have been animated and expanded upon. One Pace helps tremendously but good lord am I hoping the seasonal remake of the anime is as awesome as it potentially can be.

So, the working theory people have for Blackbeard having 2 fruits is is that he has something called Chimerism which is named after the beast Chimera and a real world condition where a person can have multiple sets of DNA in the same body.

This got multiplied by Marco - the doctor and surgeon of the Whitebeards, btw - said that he has an "irregular body." 2 - Mythical Zoan Dog-Dog Fruit Model: Cerberus: because of Blackbeard's jolly roger and because he seems to have acquired the most powerful Logia and Paramecia on the world, some people speculate that maybe he started this quest a long time ago, and he did it by first of all acquiring the world's strongest Zoan. The theoretical Cerberus fruit's mythical power would be to allow its user to have 2 other devil fruits, one for each "head" of the Cerberus. The impact of this power could very well also be what Marco was referring to.

Which means that Blackbeard made a pretty ballsy gamble, as the comments of his crew make it pretty clear that he wasn't sure if it'll work for him.

Well. That's bad news. I think what fascinates me most about Blackbeard is that he isn't proactively "evil" so much as "amoral". We deal in pirates, so everyone's morals are here or there. The reason we don't like him is because he has no honor. He happily betrays his family and lies and cheats and steals because he'll do whatever he wants to achieve his goals. And that's what makes him a foil for Luffy. While Luffy is free from fear of consequences like, say, punching a Celestial Dragon, Blackbeard is free from morality. In both cases, this is a trait that gets them into trouble but also gives them a lot of power.

Blackbeard is f-ing weird in a way. He can be incredibly stupid and clever, brave and coward. Somehow he has a fairly loyal crew and seems to actualy consider them his nakama. It is truly as if we are seeing a dark Luffy and Strawhats. There are theories on how he is able to have 2 dfs.. Crocodile may have other reasons... Seriously the fandom is sometimes really wild.
