I noticed an interesting spiral topped hook in a Protos Pizza in Denver a while back and thought making a hook inspired by that spiral would be a good hook of the week project.

Another great hook, I used to have a bucket full of those bolts as I was in the electrical distribution business and we scrapped out a lot of reels, all I would have needed to make hooks was a forge, anvil, hammers, and lots of experience.

Just watched this yesterday. I just got my forge and anvil set up as something to distract me during the quarantine. I happened to have the same cable spool rods, and thought this would be a great project for practicing scroll work. Wish I could show you here, but it came out great (best hook yet, granted it's like my 4th one). Thanks for you great videos, they are so helpful for this beginning "smith".

John a new twist to nice way to hang stuff , Much nicer than the Cowboys way to hang. I been slowly finding time to build my ribbon burner just finished a few days ago and today's going to put to use, I heated up a 3lb hammer to be piece of steel to preheat and dry forge motar to almost a workable orange in 5 minutes , Much quicker than my coal start ups. I will try to almost copy but hopefully adding a twist of my own. I did put a seliold on for safety,Sir I again thank you.

We hear a lot about cold shuts, which are to be avoided for looks and good workmanship, but for most applications, are they really a strength concern? A demonstration of this would be very instructional.

Two things: 1st, you should get a free pizza of your choice for a small plug for the pizza place. 2nd, you should have kept the bolt head as it was. That would be pretty cool.

When you was talking about scrolling tight enough that it closes the gaps. My first thought (with it in the shape it looked like) if this was out of 308 stainless with real good heat control and white wash for stainless steel this could be a lollipop.

Another nice hook of the week, Regarding texture, a lot of what I do uses reclaimed material. If it's too rough, I dress it down considerably, and if by chance I use "new" material I lightly texture it so it doesn't look like that cold formed tack welded china crap.

Always learn something from HOTW, and this one was no exception. I agree that doing a tighter spiral is easier; just did a wall-mounted candle holder with a tight spiral to set the candle on, but it wasn't as fiddly as your project, thank goodness!

With the inspiration hook, I like the small scroll where you have the ball end and I like that the screws are dome headed and have the black forged look instead of shiny factory look. With your hook, I like the whole hook! It definitely has more time, skill and love put into it and it just feels more finished becuase you scroll goes all the way down to a point. The inspiration hook does have that going for it, it is inspirational! LOL If I do some, I think I'll be doing the small scroll at the hook end, instead of the ball....... as I have rod without the bolt heads. It's really nice to see where you get some of your idea's from and how you would then interpret those idea's into your own work. I really enjoyed this one and think I'll be playing with and learning how to do scroll work in my near future 😁

As I said no offense sirSir, just let's us new guys know " here's a challenge even a pro has to do work around on. Oughta be interesting to see how many times I gota go rewatch this one" lol.
