Our 1st rehearsal in 2 years and our 2nd run through of the song. Just a test session in preparation for an upcoming live multi angle recording.

UPDATE #2: I (guy that did the loop) had no idea this video would become one of our more popular ones, despite no effort in getting it out there. Me (Jamie) and my twin brother (Simon) have been playing this stuff for over 30 years and exciting to have shared our passion for awesome music with you all! Sorry we haven't put much else out there, sadly regular life is a bit swamped. We never did a multi angle video but we have a few single angle one-take videos (with vocals) posted, please check them out! More coming soon(ish).

Yeah! Having heard it played forward once or twice I had some idea what they were playing but when he flipped it into reverse after layering, kind of gave me goosebumps (in a good way)

Love my line 6 helix! It has just about enough time in the looper function to pull the intro off. And a handy reverse button of course.

Never seen anyone do the intro like that before.... that was amazing! Metallica were my first concert when I was 11 years old in 1997. Amazing job boys!

The intro was IMMACULATE. The rest of the tune was almost indistinguishable from the album. It was tighter than Metallica themselves, when they play it live. Nice work, guys.

Wow. I am impressed with this on so many levels. First, the way you executed that intro on the spot. How funny would it be if James, instead of intricately working that section out at various rehearsals and then (I imagine) recording it by himself at the studio, he just recorded all the parts on the spot, in front of the other members, waiting patiently with big smiles on their faces :D Secondly, the chunky sound and lack of vocals made it sound like a James/Lars-only rehearsal, but then you did include the lead guitars and bass. You even kept the bass at a decent level but (as those who deny that Lars cruelly turned the bass down on ...Justice to taunt Jason), it truly does blend in with the guitars and just creates an extra ch-chunk. This made me realize that Lars maybe isn't such a bastard after all, which was touching, as was the idea of them, back in the day, including EVERYONE at rehearsals and early recording sessions--which they didn't attempt until Load. As much as I love the first four records, imagine the results of such an inclusive process BACK when they had energy and speed and ambition. Finally, you masterfully kept the part after the solo that ALWAYS made me scratch my head--the part no one can agree on: is it Lars' mistake left in or a brilliantly worked out polyrhythmic trick? Either way you nailed it, and also, you reinforced my belief that it's the SECOND half of that pre-final-verse section that's "messed up," not the first half, which appears to follow the rest of the song.

Thanks! Always loved this intro. The looper on my Line 6 Helix is just perfect to pull it off. That part after the solo is definitely planned that way. No mistakes on any of this stuff. It was meticulously planned by those guys. Very hard to pull off for sure. I’ve been playing this song for 30 years though, I’d better have it by now! Our drummer Phillip is awesome. Without that…. impossible.

@@jamieamir but it’s the second half of the post-solo section that’s “off,” right? Not the first? So many videos on here insist it’s the first half which to me sounds like every other time that riff is played in the song

@@samweisberg3673 yes you are correct. He adds an extra half beat in the fill between sections then cuts a half beat coming back into the last verse.

i think these guys had the same 'hey, we could just gig this setup' as me. i built a practice room with vdrums, amp sims and headphones in the corner of a living room and thought 'all i have to do is get some wireless IEMs an we can play way smaller places at a comfortable volume.

Lol! Our poor bass player is standing in the back corner and I tried to make the mix accurate therefore he is about as audible as Jason was. You can hear him on the dual guitar section right before the solo. Our drummer fucking kicks ass! We are using a much nicer Roland kit now. And we are identical twins just in case that wasn’t clear, I couldn’t tell if u were joking or not! I’ve been taking a lot of singing lessons (that’s me on the left) and will have something more complete pretty soon.

Thanks! Sound is from a helix preset using an impulse response. I bought the patch from the line 6 website! Mixed on Logic. Yes, low bass was definitely intentional!

@@jamieamir damn nice cover. may I ask you, how did you learn vocals? took some courses? I also want to practice vocals to sing like Hetfield, no screaming though. where to start?

@@christelhall9379 I spent a long time trying to sing this stuff (badly). I finally took singing lessons. My teacher will do zoom lessons if interested.
