You're right about that! I went to visit my aunt, in another state, over the summer and they didn't have BET in their area and I wanted to die! And I didn't have cable, for a few months, and I loved watching Teen Summit, Donnie Simpson, BET Tonight, etc., so I wrote, to BET, asking if they had transcripts to follow. They actually wrote me back and were very nice. I miss the old BET. I did like Being Mary Jane, The Quad, American Soul. Hopefully they'll bring some of those style, of shows, back. I will say that they ruined The Game and Hit The Floor though. They got trashier when they moved to BET.

I don't even think it was more power but I think Networks took a gamble with black programming. Remember Fox had all the black sitcoms? That was a gamble to be competitive and when they got straight, they didn't gamble, they based it on numbers. We thought we had control but we were being used until we weren't needed smh. That's why Tyler Perry has so much content in BET cause of his numbers. Imagine what a Spike Lee would have done (no offense to Tyler)

I believed (if my memory serves me correctly) Video Vibrations and Video LP broadcast behind one another. I recall watching those shows during the summer months of '90 and '91.

I feel like they found their way with VH1, but overall, all of those channels need to find ways to incorporate what people seek on the internet while digging back into the roots of what initially made them successful.

We have so many many black owned places, we have so many interesting things, we even have a whole shopping area known as Market Street. Issa Rae's got a coffee shop there. But not only Inglewood, I'm sure there are many African American towns and cities that have hidden gems and are unknown to the overall community. That would be a very interesting show. Kind of like Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives but with more... Culture focused

The editors were only being paid 20 to 15 dollars an hour and used to have to spend the night in the building because of the live tapings. They starved people during a winter season a few years ago and left US stranded in those buildings for 4 days. We weren’t allowed to eat from the cafeteria. Anyone that did was fired. (Of course). They offered for someone to bring crackers and sardines from a corner store.

Ask Byron Allen how easy that is and how well that's going. Not to be negative (so y'all know I am fixing to get really negative) but I'm not enjoying the "blue eyed soul" Renaissance in R&B and what used to be hip hop. Corporate tie ins have practically eliminated the open Black platform for artist expression. Example? Watch Dry Bar comedy. I notice how the comedians of color bring up race, where as their white contemporaries don't, as much or at all. Since the "gatekeepers" want to be comfortable and/or reflect images of self... please look up the Byron Allen lawsuit for the Time Warner merger and beyond. I think BET was such a missed opportunity. One we may never see again. 🤑💸💸

There are so many great black children’s books, authors and content creators that could create a diverse set of content. The kids programming could be Ada twist, Jabari tries and other stem related kids shows or literacy show.

This is an incredible list. Rather than suggest these to BET, if you wanted to, I bet you could do some networking online and start a KZfaq channel covering those things. Reaching out via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok would give you thousands of people with whom you could collaborate! Those creators, talents, and groups are out there. You could lay the foundation for the next big thing.

They brought it back with the Holmes in an hour episode every night, but Noone watched. Then they brought it back in a retooled half hour spot and no one watched.
