You had Rah Digga rapping about the streets of poverty in Jersey, Lauryn Hill was rapping/singing about heartbreak and her story, Missy Elliott was rapping about futuristic hip hop stuff lol Lil Kim was rapping about leading a man on sexually but then not giving him no sex and taking anything from him just because you’re a woman and you’re in control, etc etc people try to make narratives about female rappers but they all were rapping about different things and in different ways... hell if you listen to Left Eye solo rap album she’s the only female rapper in history that made a song telling her fans to not commit suicide and to keep faith and stay strong during hard times.., that literally has never been done.

Its actually really common. Missy and Timbaland, YoYo and Ice Cube, La Chat and Gangsta Boo with 3 6 Mafia, Lauryn Hill with the Fugees, Lil Kim and BIG, Princess Loko and Tommy Wright III, Lady of Rage and Dr Dre/Snoop Dogg, Da Brat and Jermaine Dupree, Trina and Trick Daddy, Eve and DMX, and theres others. I think thats why you hear a lot of disrespect towards female rappers nowadays. A lot of the women in rap now didnt come up with a male acquaintance, they werent some established male rapper's sidekick.
@ariesmry
@ariesmry 3 жыл бұрын
@@emmadilemma7800 This is business more than anything. Their male counterparts either had more leverage in the industry, a strong fanbase, or a record label that allowed them to put on female rappers. Now that the music industry sees how profitable female rappers are, they can skip that process in terms of getting signed, and now, many can remain independent for quite some time. But they still go through a subtle system of being put on, whether it be with who they collab with, who they date, or even their management company.

Well honestly, the Industry followed the Hollywood Standard that in order for women to be considered successful, glamorous and a sex symbol (eye candy) they had to be thin. As not to lose credibility and capital the Rap Industry followed suit until they saw the measured success and mass appeal from female rappers of the likes of Queen Latifah, Missy Misdemeanor Elliot, Mia X and any other big boned thick female emcees that ever rocked the mic. Basically in a nutshell, those women paved the way for rappers like Lizo

Well Jay-Z wanted to keep Amil on the scene and in the game but she didn’t want to be there anymore. So it’s not like all the men in the industry were “using” these women. And one other point is, some of these men were using their own popularity in the industry to promo some of these female MCs, however in some of these cases that didn’t work out as planned and it resulted in this informative and really interesting video.
