I’m worried that the Hollywood elitist attitude, and lack of respect for Baz, will be what keeps Austin from getting the Oscar he deserves. Rami Malek won, and Austin’s job was much harder than Rami’s. And I believe Rami deserved that Oscar. Rami won the Golden Globe, didn’t win Critic’s Choice, won the SAG leading up to the Academy Awards, If Austin wins the SAG I will have more hope that he’ll win in March. You know Delores Hart, Mother Delores Hart, is still a member of the Academy. She is sent all the movies and a ballot. I figure once she sees ELVIS, her votes in all categories are a lock. 😊

Watching this interview I am struck by just how an honest, intelligent, articulate young man Mr. Butler is. Everything about him is so real and authentic. He really did Elvis and Elvis's musical legacy and life proud. No airs, no phoniness, just straightforward and from the heart. Mr. Butler's performance deserves a Golden Globe, Oscar, and Screen Actor's Guild Award.

To me, there's no doubt that Austin Butler's portrayal of Elvis kicked ass. I love the way he describes Elvis in interviews and I respect how hard he worked to "be" Elvis. This interview was fantastic and I would like to give a huge thumbs up to Vladimir Duthiers for letting Austin talk and not interrupting like many interviewers do. Really appreciate that. He knows his stuff and asked a lot of great questions as did the audience. Thanks for filming this. I agree with Austin when he says, "There's never been a person I haven't met that I've loved more than Elvis".

The problem with the Academy is that it's all political. Has been for as long as I can remember. Same with the Grammy's. Why do you suppose Elvis only won three, for gospel? He should have won dozens. They did do the right thing finally and give him a Lifetime Achievement award when he was 36.

Austin my 13 year old granddaughter has watched the Elvis movie over 20 times she even did a virtual Disney 5K run on the treadmill watching the Elvis movie& her Christmas list is all Elvis from a IPhone Elvis cover to Elvis playing cards and it makes this grandmas heart so happy and it’s because of your Phenomenal work you put into Elvis!! I know u have had a lot of great responses I just want u to know you are in my prayers!! As a mom & grandma you having lost your mom at such a young age and hearing about your memories with her are special, I want you to remember when you think of your mom she’s in a place so beautiful they call it Paradise. Until it’s your time for you to enter paradise with your mom please keep your focus on doing everything you can to make her proud because she ( and God) see everything you are doing so you keep that in mind every minute of everyday & in every decision you make! If you EVER and I mean this with the love of a mother for a son (my son is 40) need someone to encourage you and someone you can trust I will always be here for you! I just feel led by The Holy Spirit to be here for you. You can send me an IM via Facebook! Please know every minute of every day your mom is watching over you and sees you and is there for you. I know you have had many experiences of feeling The Holy Spirit in preparing for this role and those feelings are real they not something you imagined your moms with you right now as you read this and is always there for you. May God continue to bless you and guide you today and always. Much Love 💕💕💕🐜🐝

Yes, agree the film has opened many eyes to our history. I think that’s one of the best impacts of the movie- that people are learning about the history of segregation, poverty, the extreme civil rights battles of the 50’s and 60’s. Elvis lived during these times and obviously broke many barriers, impacting culture. That’s why I love this movie so much. Through Elvis, we are learning about ourselves and our culture.

That question/statement the moderator brings up regarding introducing a younger generation to the early music business was FANTASTIC and in short… YES! 1000000 times YES! Not only did I go back and read everything about Elvis, his life, his career his circle etc, but I’ve become utterly obsessed/fascinated by the early music business. It’s origins, how it changed and evolved with Elvis. How distribution of “race records” changed with the introduction of Elvis playing black music and figuring out how to package and monetize him. There’s a lot from that time period that will peak a music lovers interest, and to Austin’s point, it’s so easy to completely allow yourself to obsess and dig into such a complex and rich history that I’ve throughly been enjoying discovering.

Austin Butler absolutely killed it on SNL. I have big respect for the man who portrayed EP so well, but I wondered if he could pull off live comedy. He was terrific. It is a MUST SEE! And I was going to be furious if he did not get nominated for the Golden Globe and Oscar Best Actor. I cannot wait to see him win! Tom Hanks got robbed, as he was not nominated. But he has won previously.

A great interview - thank you for posting. Absolutely one of the best I've seen so far (and there have been a lot!) because he was provided the time and space to answer the great questions asked by Vlad and the audience. I really hope he wins the Academy Award, not just for his amazing portrayal of an incredible rebel, icon and legend, but also as recognition for how much of himself he put into this movie. Baz Luhrmann is a genius and the crew, cast and studio have a lot to be proud of. Let's hope there's #anoscarforaustin come awards night. This was one of the best interviews I've seen, a nice long one too which is something always nice to hear as I love listening to Austin speak! Mr. Duthiers' questions were well thought out and Austins' responses were so right on, never caught off guard and just beautiful responses! I really enjoyed it because we were able to spend more time and listen to Austin, which totally makes my heart happy. I loved Austin's movie, Elvis, he was amazing, phenomenal, such a wonderful movie, I watched it 18 x in theaters. I loved it but would love to hear his audition song that he sent to Baz. In his SNL appearance, he has much, much more sense of humor than I ever knew, and "Lois", I am still laughing hysterically over her. But when he broke out singing Blue Christmas, OMG, I cried. Austin has such a beautiful singing voice, make no mistake, that was not Elvis, that beautiful voice was all Austin. God bless him for blessing us, he is in my heart! I see everything I can on him, he is absolutely amazing! 💖⚡💖 I can't wait for the other movies he's done.

OMG! So many fantastic questions. Thank you for this unbelievably genuine and candid conversation about Austin’s performance, prep, production and most importantly Elvis. So many questions I had or that I’ve wondered about were answered. Also, what a great question to end on. The cast sometimes sticks to quite canned responses; possibly because they are nervous about speaking out of turn or saying the wrong thing. But I genuinely wanted to know what Austin’s thoughts were on that question. What he learned in his research and prep about how Elvis navigated the black and white world. We know that as a teen he would bike down to West Memphis or Orange Mound to join performances with other black teens in the neighbourhood or hang out on Beale street and sort of existed in and was accepted into black spaces at a time when it was unheard of to do so. But we also know that there were parts of him, his experience and his interests that he often had to keep hidden and suppressed even from extended family due to prejudice within his own circles and environment. I really want to know how he walked that tight rope. How he rationalized it. If and when he reconciled it within himself (I believe in ‘68 he did some introspective work during the civil rights movement). I believe that Nelson George, one of the researchers on The Elvis film plans to put out a project going a bit more in depth into this aspect of Elvis life/truth. Into the untold story that this film has honestly only scratched the surface of. I don’t know why Graceland doesn’t dig more and share more about this side of his legacy. They’ve kind of tried to but usually they skirt the issue and the difficult questions and don’t really dive into it with transparency and honesty. But it’s important, if not just for posterity and public record. Especially as that generation ages out and passes on, it’s really just not well documented and that’s a true shame, but this film is a step in the right direction.

Really sad that he did not. The Whale was a good movie, but he had to give up 2 years of his life, hurt his shoulder, was hospitalized after he finished filming, how to sing the songs, and how Elvis talked. His voice changed as he aged. So much work for it not to be awarded. Also, Top Gun was much the same. Those actors took at least a year out of their lives. It was a very good story as well. The academy got it wrong on a lot of things.
