How to Make a Knife Lanyard ~ This is my method for making a functional and decorative knife lanyard. I use paracord in the video but most of my lanyards are made from leather. Some people don't like to use lanyards but personally I find the benefit to outweigh any and negative. Thank you for watching. Please subscribe.

Matt always does a great job with his videos. I have referred to this particular video several times over the years. Still one of the best demonstrations on applying a lanyard to your bushcraft type fixed blade knife. Detailed instructions, good camera setup, and easy to learn. Thanks to the Black Hat Bushcraft channel. - Tennessee Smoky

Many times there is an elegance in simplicity and this is one of those times. Those lanyards look great.

Nice video. Knot is called a nail knot, sometimes used by fly fishermen to connect fly line to leader. Here a nail is used to keep the loops separated, making easier the step of passing the tip through the loops.

I like that short lanyard idea. And that knot looks good too. That idea would work well on my PKS knives since they all have that same sheath type and sent low inside their sheaths. Thanks for sharing your ideas and experience with us Matt. And God bless.

I actually have the same design with leather on my PKS knives as well :) It has become sort of a "trademark" for my knives I guess. thank you for tuning in and God bless!

Great vid Matt! As you were demonstrating how to make the knot a thought occurred to me that you could use a sail needle to weave through the loops rather quickly. I agree the lanyard is a great addition to your knife. you should have a video on the proper way to use the lanyard as most people do not know.

That's a good idea, the sail needle comes in handy for 101 uses for sure. Thank you for watching and the suggestion.

I made a hangmans noose to use as a lanyard. When my knife is in the sheath, I loop the noose over my ferro rod to use as a restraining method. And when in use I can cinch it up to just go over my wrist.

Thank you for tuning in! I am actually in the process of gathering some things for my 1k GAW! I want at least a couple of items to be self crafted. It is easy to purchase something to give but I want to make it it just a bit more personal. Stay tuned, details will be coming up soon. Thank you for your interest and support!

I’m an absolute lanyard nut when it comes to blades! I love that fixed blade you put that on as well as that beautiful leather sheath! So I’ve been wanting to get into bushcraft to teach my grandsons so my question to you is Kydex vs leather? I’ve seen some folks say ones better than the other leather shrinks but kydex needs to have a drain hole? Personally I love the look of leather. Also what’s your thoughts on lanyards that have a sliding bead so you can put your hand through and then tighten up to prevent the knife from being lost when in low light situation and then loosened so that no branch’s get caught in lanyard hole and pulling blade out of sheath. One more question? What’s your choice in blade steel? 1095 or do you prefer something like an S30V? Great video!! You have a new subscriber

Next time perhaps you can use a straw to pass the working end underneath of the loops. Quick and easy.

I have some knives where The lanyard is useful in removing the knife from a deep sheath. Some of my heavier blades have lanyards that can be used on the pinky for more leverage. It's all personal preference.

Really late to this ... try to learn a Whip stitch. This puts the bite end you need to pull tight under your wrap first and triples that speed you can do this. Hundreds of vids on whip stitch available.
