The Hawks, to their credit, conducted an in depth investigation. They just did it after denying anything happened. There's a lot of fallout likely to come from this one.

The Blackhawks were fined $2 million for covering up sexual assault. Ten years ago, the Devils were fined over $3 million and lost draft picks for circumventing the salary cap. That's a slap on the wrist for Chicago.

They should have been fined 100 million and lost their next 2 first round picks that they own. That’s a better punishment. Also, Quennville should be fired immediately. First. don't put the cart before the horse. The NHL has NO CHOICE but to do SOMETHING QUITE SUBSTANTIAL in terms of discipline to the Hawks no matter what ANY ONE THINKS. i will say KUDOS to DANNY WIRTZ to admit to the guilt and recognize that not only is POSITIVE CHANGE NECSSARY BUT REQUIRED. I fully expected this to be swept under the carpet because, when Dollar Bill was alive, that's what he would have done. I have been a Hawks fan for over 55 years and, the fact MY team would allow players to be treated this way, is beyond comprehension. Hopefully this sends a signal to ALL who are involved with organized sports that THIS WILL NEVER AGAIN BE TOLERATED IN ANY ASPECT. Whatever is done to the Hawks in terms of DISCIPLINE they have earned and deserve. Hopefully the people personally affected will recover from this and move on their lives in a positive manner and have a happy life. As for those who allowed this to happen your CAREERS ARE OVER. You no longer should be employed in any capacity in ANY SPOSRT'S TEAM SETTING.

You hear about it all the time with teams hiring their own investigators and it eventually fades away. On the executive side, I'm glad they're all gone, I'm especially glad that Bowmans gone. Now we just have to see what the Jets and the Panthers do. From a player perspective I have no doubt that Toews and Kane lied about not knowing probably to save face but also probably mostly because of the organization pushing them to remain neutral, I know fellow Hawks fans can only hope that neither of the two were in the same group as the players who bullied the victim. Regardless of what happens next I'm glad the investigation actually got to the bottom of the case and presented all the correct information and I hope the victims get true justice for what happened all those years ago. The next two weeks are going to be a hell of a ride for multiple organizations but hopefully now the hawks organization can move forward from this and build to be better.

Although i wished they would have- because if the police had been involved- when they came to investigate and were told the story - the first group of cops would have had to call for backup because they would have been laughing so hard - that a guy a foot taller and a hundred lbs larger would have been sexually assaulted by that much of a smaller man all he had to do was say no and walk away like all the others apparently did after. believe me iv'e had it happen to me and i am no where near as big or imposing . After that - when they took a statement from the woman who had participated in the 3 some with them that night in the coaches apartment - then- that is when the criminal part would have probably fallen apart completely - no prosecutor in the united states is going to prosecute that no way . But 10 yrs later - sue a very wealthy team - with a 1/3 contingency - sure . The notion that this would be a criminal matter is keystone cops type stuff. it would never happen

It's amazing how much attitudes towards sexual assault allegations have changed in the past 10 years. The Blackhawks' attitude in 2010 was disgusting, but it was also typical at the time. Things like this in all sorts of organizations were just brushed under the rug. I don't say that to defend the Blackhawks, I say that to condemn all the many organizations that acted like they did at the time. The victims who came forward got ridiculed and ignored, and I'm sure plenty of others never came forward because they knew it was useless. The Me Too movement did a ton to change those attitudes, and those involved in it deserve a ton of credit. We're still a long ways from where we should be, but we're a lot closer than we were in 2010. And with that in mind, we're kidding ourselves if we think the Blackhawks are the only NHL team with a skeleton like this in their closet. I would bet a lot of money that similar things happened at other NHL teams, but they were better at covering it up or getting the victims to stay silent. Maybe some of those stories will come out now, but even if they don't we shouldn't pretend that they don't exist.

So it sounds like Bergevin wasn't involved? His name does not appear at any point in the full 107 page report.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if he heard about it through the grapevine but all signs point to him not being part of the inner circle that was making decisions about this.

Seems like he was telling the truth. He was a relatively low level guy in the organization at the time (director of player personnel) so probably not aware of everything happening

@@nintendofan7218 Pretty much but at the same time, since he wasn't in the inner circle, he's got enough leeway to wriggle out of it all. Either way, this looks pretty bad on the NHL in general. And the Blackhawks are going to mired in the shit for quite some time.

I have a hard time believing he never heard anything about it, but at least based on the report he wasn't in on any of the important meetings, etc., so he'll probably get away with it unless one of the named people subsequently fingers him.

Thank you, Shannon. You promised to talk about this when the report was made public, and you have done so with all the professionalism and authenticity I would expect from any top shelf news organization. But when you note this is just the beginning for this, regarding the Blackhawks, I can't help but hear, "This is just the beginning of the change of hockey culture as a whole." Because as several commenters have already noted, the attitudes that were at the core of this tragedy, are at the core of organized hockey at all levels, so there must have been - and still be - more unreported tragedies like this out there. It is time to start revealing those ugly truths, and start dealing with them. Let's really start taking care of the people involved in hockey at all levels.

My thoughts go out to the victims and their families. I finished reading the report a few minutes ago and feel nothing but outrage. It makes me sick, a sexual predator in a position of power is enabled by the higher ups. The executives and coaches kept it quiet and let the sexual predator continue his job around the victims! He continued to harm others by their inaction as noted in the report’s reference of an attack on an intern. Then they allowed him to quietly resign and find employment elsewhere to continue his sexual attacks on other young men. How does a sexual predator get to celebrate and have their name engraved on the Stanley Cup while his victims watch? Chicago better petition ASAP to get “Brad Aldrich” OFF the Stanley Cup. NO WAY Stan Bowman should be the GM of the US National team, he needs to be fired immediately. And Cheveldayoff and Quenneville, they flat out LIED! They better suffer some consequences besides simply having a meeting to “discuss their roles in the relevant events”. Bottom line, these folks enabled a sexual predator and should be held to account. Shame on them.
