I think that the "signature sound" of W.A.S.P. is Blackie's vocals...
@sudicalwig7 жыл бұрын
And Chris Holmes guitarsolos.. He's got a very significant style.
@stevenlornie12617 жыл бұрын
and yet he hasn't been in the band coming on 20 yrs and that signature sound is still there. So clearly Holmes' guitar is not that much of a signature.
@mattm77986 жыл бұрын
Without a doubt. I think he is among the most underrated vocalists in metal history. We all know about halford, dio and dickinson, but Blackie has such an earthy raw yet melodic voice.
@warbossgegguz6796 жыл бұрын
Crimson Idol Chris came back after headless children though... dude's got a style of his own, I agree, but ultimately I'd say W.A.S.P.'s biggest characteristic is Blackie's vocals.

I can't say I'm a massive fan; I only really like 'The Headless Children' and one or two other tunes but there's no denying he has a unique voice. There's a lot more texture than most metal singers.

I never knew that happened to him. Much like Klaus Meine of the Scorpions, right before WASP made their landmark debut record, he lost his voice and regained it through rest and training.

Yeah, the questioner wasn't blowing smoke. Blackie's voice still sounds amazing. Now any voice will change over time, usually deepening but the quality is still there with Blackie.

Stop what you have been doing, it's not fucking working. Kids, or should I say, young adults. Quit thinking the world owes you. The world don't owe you shit. It didn't give us shit, we had to face the music and delt with the shit and then we fought back. Give rock n roll the leg up that was swept underneath itself.

Kevin Richards Rock the Stage NYC think thats bad... I had a full thyroidectomy due to cancer followed by a 5 level acdf surgery. I tune music down 5 half steps to match my vocal range. So right down to Baritone tuning basically. Then I can sing just fine.
@stevenlornie12617 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with tuning down for the vocals. People's voices naturally change with age, they deepen. If you adapt, you'll still sound great and Blackie still sounds great.
@themadmattster96476 жыл бұрын
i just watched a September 2017 show on youtube so far it's same exact key as the albums. I haven't watched all the songs, maybe he only does it for some, like Roger Waters does live now

Given what guys like Bruce Dickenson or Rob Halford or Tom Araya sound like now versus when they were young, that's still impressive.
@guillaumepepin7625 жыл бұрын
a lot even so called classic metal bands do that . and blackie has a rough style to keep. on the road , its quite regular for a lot to tune down on certain nights when the singer voice is tired . if you dont .. well you dont finish the tourbin good shape. also in the case of Wasp and even early Death metal bands . they were all in E.. it just the amp and the attack of the playing along with the bass you bielieve its down tuned but not . other day i was seeing Judas Priest tribute band with my guitar player with some of the guys of the scene . and its like they were in D or in C tuning at times . we asked one of the guitar player .. . he told us it was the KK.downing set up .. its the old school trick . except the fact you are on 11 haha its the balance with bass its mostly boost of medium thing . and the playing .. when you think its in D or C it was in E .. or E flat . now i saw even in 1983/84 Wasp shows.. like lyceum .. on certain songs like the torture never stops and stuff . its quite a dark and evil sound .. it wasnt in E standard .. but E flat in think .

I remember a kid at the concert shouting 'Burn Blackie Burn!' thinking it was part of the show, things went sideways real quick as the house lights came on and the paramedics arrive.
