I just recently skipped my commencement ceremony because of anxiety and feeling like a failure despite my accomplishment. I literally got through nursing school being pregnant, having pneumonia, having emergency surgery to remove my gallbladder, having a newborn, AND a pandemic and still passed and passed my NCLEX. After watching this I truly understood the mistake I made of not going :( I should’ve celebrated myself especially since I stayed strong through so much. Ugh 😢

That’s incredibly impressive. I know you’re probably feeling dark about the decision after hearing this but just know the real accomplishment lies in all the people you will help moving forward, it takes a SPECIAL type of person to get through nursing school let a lone with all of those factors- everyday post passing your boards is a huge celebration. Take graduation pictures with the money you saved from not attending the ceremony (dress/makeup/gown cost) and you’ll have those forever as a memory too.

You can still celebrate your accomplishment. I know it won’t be the same but you can throw yourself a party, go on vacay, take yourself out on a nice dinner etc. i have bad anxiety and depression too & nearly missed out on graduation because of the same thought process you had. You’re not alone and you are NOT a failure. I went to college because I saw my mom working her ass off, you will be that for your child. You can tell them about your higher education experience and inspire them. YOU accomplished so much! I hope, from stranger to stranger, you celebrate yourself. 🎉❤

Yes, to her: Go! I wish I could have gone to mine! I was offered a job in my field overseas, and to take the job meant missing it. I don't regret my decision but wish the universe had aligned for me to do both.

thanks for acknowledging going to college is a privilege. i’m currently taking a break from my school program because i have to work full time to raise money to pay for my own tuition, i go to community college rn but having to save thousands for a semester +books on top of paying bills is so hard. people i went to high school with are graduating and it feels so lonely/ i’ve felt disappointed in myself for not graduating now too, but then i remember i have to work extremely hard to pay bills and attend school at the same time

i totally agree with you, im scared to tell my family that i’ve taken a break from school bc i was so burnt out from not knowing what i actually want to do vs what they want me to do.. but also i have an apt to pay for in order to live and eat, so it’s hard to balance both and also have a job that’s understanding enough to support your education 🥲

i feel this. i’m graduating from a four year next week but started off at a community college. everyone i know either graduated last year or are graduating with their master’s right now. it took me five years to get my bachelor’s degree & i still feel a bit of imposter syndrome/have definitely been disappointed in myself in the past but college isn’t a race-never feel bad for taking the route that’s best for you. 💗

I lived in Hawaii for 5 years(oahu) we had a family of chickens in the parking lot of the mall where I helped run a little steak shack and we’d feed them rice every morning. Philly has squirrels Hawaii has chickens lol

I didn’t go to my college graduation because (graduated April 2021) and had one vaccine dose in my system w an immunocompromised mother and a family member who was sick w the ‘vid. I was so incredibly burnt out but my family held a party at home for me and it was truly worthwhile! 😊

I went to one of the biggest jokes of a highschool, our graduation song was "another brick in the wall" by pink Floyd, and a lot of the speeches involved dissing the schoolboard if that tells you anything about how we all felt

I didn't go to my graduation because of similar reasons, and I will say JUST GO. I wish I would have sucked it up for a the picture and stuff. I wish I could go further my education, but I would be in debt for life and that sucks. It is great there are organizations like the one you shouted out for other people in that situation!

I didn’t go to college but I basically blocked my high school graduation out of my brain, we had a grad dinner night where we “parade” down an isle one at a time to a song of our choice (mine was high by the beach by Lana del Rey💅🏼) in our outfits/dresses onto a stage, it was a super small class of people who I went through K-12 with and I hated everyone: my eyelashes wouldn’t stick, while I was literally in line to walk down the isle I found out my date wasn’t going to show up so my moms friends boyfriend had to come last second to walk me down so that I wasn’t the only one with a date, my song didn’t work so I had to walk in silence.. I ended up crying and leaving the dinner after 20 minutes and didn’t go on my grad trip

Im on a 12hr night shift (i work security in rich people apartments) and i have 3 and a half hrs left. Im going outside to smoke a very tiny blunt, my anxiety is really bad and i had a panic attack around 3hrs ago when i last took a few hits.
