You do a great job with these videos! I think you should be more recognized for it. By the way, could you do this test with the game Smite? I'm curious to see the performance on Mac. Also, my dream is to see the Mac as a gaming platform just as Windows is. Greetings from Brazil! :D

@@MrMacRight They have implemented crossplay with Switch and Xbox, and the player base has only increased. The game is getting better and better. :D

1. I love the topic of this video! 2. I would get an eGPU but it depends if it would really make a difference with my 2017 4K iMac. 3. No I do not have an eGPU

what is the best egpu i can connect to my 2017 5k imac (i7) ? and how much of a performance boost will i expect ? Currently playing fortnite at aroung 100 fps AVG. note: im interested in using the imacs 5k display.

Total War games are very demanding (Warhammer II is far more demanding than Gravel) and most of them don't support eGPU, that's a shame

Surprisingly poor gain on fps.. One would think that a desktop GPU would give much higher performance boost than only double (or +40fps). I don't know is it the generally poor performance of the 580 or does the TB3 bottleneck some performance here...

I wouldn't call it poor FPS gains. 40+ seems pretty significant to me, especially for a Mac computer. But a few things to consider. Since eGPU support for macOS games is still in its early days, most games don't take full advantage of this function. Take DOS2 as an example. It receives 50+ FPS gains (over 100fps), which in my perspective is very impressive. I think if more developers enable eGPU support in the future, the FPS gains would be significantly better from what you've seen in this video. Plus the MacBook Pro model that I have becomes incredibly hot and bottlenecks when gaming, which might reduce the performance.... I will be selling it in April, for a new 5K iMac, which shouldn't hopefully have this issue.

I don’t know how native Mac games should perform. But in general dedicated desktop class GPU should give a tremendeous improvement in gaming. +40 fps is not a huge improvement, when you can see eGPUs do around 100fps 1440p, max settings. So it might be the 580 which explains the poor (or not impressing) improvement. I am considering eGPU setup, but I guess I would choose Razor Core X (or similar) eGPU enclosure with a powerfull GPU (min. 8GB memory).

I'd still much prefer to play directly on my PC hardware than over the cloud. But my thoughts may change.

Ok idk if you'll ever read this or not but I've watched quite a bit of your videos and they're quite amazing.. keep up the good work and i had a mac query since your channel is an apple centric channel so... My macbook pro 2012 is stuck at boot time and the loading progress bar takes quite a lot of time to complete but it eventually does but gets stuck after that. It goes all the way up to full but is stuck after that... I've tried reinstalling my OS mojave twice but I'm still facing the same issue. Any suggestions?? Thank you if you could come up with something

Hi there. Thanks. You may have a faulty hard-drive. You can drive reformatting the whole hard-drive. And then re-installing Mojave. Otherwise take it to the Apple store.
