It's not the size of the rig that makes a camera "look professional". This camera is very professional even if you only mounted a 20mm pancake on it. The camera is insane as far as quality goes. It is so small and so light, it powers for an hour with an LPE6 and it records 60p raw in SD cards. You should look at the RED store how much each of those options will set you back before complaining about this little gem. The RS232 port is there for all sorts of rigging and you can even make your own external controls in a handle if you stop and learn about its potential. Not to mention drone integration - you can get most functions on a DJI controller. This camera is absolutely bonkers. 60p conforming it to 24p you get 2.5 times slowmo in raw. For all projects with online delivery the resolution is sharper than plenty and really, with proper grading it doesn't look any different than video coming out of REDs and ARRIs. All that for $1000. I couldn't be more grateful.

Great video. Thanks. Is the focus peaking from the micro able to be seen on any monitor such as your feelworld monitor? In the micro camera box is there a charger for the LP-E6? And, I've heard others say the top 1/4 inch mount on the micro is defectively loose and wobbles. Has this been the case with yours?
@DanIvanson8 жыл бұрын
just make charger cable yourself. buy dbhd15 cable and dc head and solder them together with a short nice cable. i got a lanparte lanc button, db15hd connector and soldered in a 2.5mm stereo jack with a short cable, pushing start-stop rec now is super easy!

i thought about it, I can just cut the other wires, the ones that I dont use. but I dont want to effect the resale value. And the matte box was a cheap one from amazon, just type in 15mm matte box. i dont remember what its called.

you might want to look into the full possibilities of that breakout cable. it's actually one of the best things about the camera. Do a bit of investigating and you'll see some very cool possibilities because they gave you that ugly cable :)
@DanIvanson7 жыл бұрын
oh ive learned about it as soon as i got my camera, pretty cool. i personally dont need any of that extra stuff, i need a nise easy to access rec button, that's it :)

Hey man, good review. Watched part 1 too. I got a question for ya; a little off topic from this video, but hopefully you can still help me out. So I had the bmpcc already, but bought the bmmcc b/c I wanted to test out the slow motion capabilities. i was expecting to go to the menu and shoot raw at 60 fps, but to my surprise the best i can do is raw 3:1. Can you explain the difference or at least provide a link that explains the difference between raw and raw3:1. I looked everywhere but can't find anything... I mean I understand what raw is. I get that it is information directly from the sensor yet to be converted to video. I get that video is where each pixel has color, brightness, color balance assigned to it. But what the heck is raw 3:1??? I understand that it is compressed raw, but what does that mean? Just lower bit rate? AKA less color per image? .... My main concern is dynamic range. If the dynamic range between raw and raw3:1 is the same then idgaf about the bit rate being a bit lower b/c there is already plenty of info, enough to color grade comfortably
@NYVideoGuy7 жыл бұрын
Wasnt this dissappointing lol. I was expecting the same exact thing. I read somewhere about raw 3:1 and I am pretty sure your right with the lower compression and it only worked in resolve for me. Couldnt import it in anything Adobe like normal raw. In my opinion I think its the same quality as prores hq. Didnt look any different to me in terms of dynamic range and coloring. Maybe im wrong, but my personal opinion is they are pretty much identical. Maybe Ill do a video on that because IDK wtf it is and you and I cant be the only ones with that question
@stanlymanly27 жыл бұрын
RAW 3:1 ratio is a smaller data ratio to compensate for the 60fps recording. Regular RAW is in 1:1 essentially. It's just a more compressed file. It doesnt affect Dynamic Range because the Camera records the same information but just more compressed. Its like Prores having different bitrates with HQ, Lite, Proxy etc.

good video and the footage looks great. Isn't the micro camera essentially the same as the pocket? also which monitor have you been using?
@NYVideoGuy8 жыл бұрын
Thanks!!! And they are similar, but the micro does 60fps and I use that a lot. I personally think the color space is better on it too. Im able to somewhat match it to my red. And I use a cheap feelworld monitor, its like $130 on amazon
@heartshapedfilms8 жыл бұрын
They both should be able to somewhat match to the red. If you get a very talented colourist, that said they'd probably be able to match out together. thanks for getting back so quick.
@NYVideoGuy8 жыл бұрын
+Chris Milbourne Im by no means a talented colorist, but from my perspective, I did a decent job matching the 3 cameras with little effort ;)

John J. Sheridan That's all that matters.

Color space is identical on the pocket and the micro, both are 10bit 4:2:2 prores and 12bit raw. Color science and dynamic range are identical as well. The difference between the two cameras are: 1. Micro has no screen vs. Pocket has 3.5"screen 2. Micro uses bigger better batteries vs. Pocket uses tiny shitty batteries 3. Micro shoots 60fps in prores and raw 3:1 vs. pocket maxes out at 30fps 4. form factor otherwise the cameras are the same :)

Hey John, I am looking into getting this camera. I want it for travelling the world and making little travel films. I was wondering about stabilization. I have a steadicam and a tripod however when I do not have the steadicam: do you recommend that I just use the top handle for stable shots? I would use a lens with IS if that helps...
@NYVideoGuy7 жыл бұрын
The handle is one of my favorite things to keep it steady, but you also need a set of wheels such as a skateboard or something to hold it. IS in inorganic looking in my opinion and I would not recommend it. But as I mentioned in the video, small rig really has some quality stuff and I am doing a review on their grip handles soon!!!
@andresgiordano31687 жыл бұрын
hi! which mattebox and handles are you using in this video? also, whic are the best lenses for this cam, thanks
@NYVideoGuy7 жыл бұрын
Hey thr mattebox was a cheap $100 from amazon. However I would HIGHLY suggest looming into the handles and rails from smallrig. I ordered them for. One of my other cameras and they are a lot more well put together and comefortable for a similar price.
@DanIvanson8 жыл бұрын
and what's that matte box?
@maxdemaxx8 жыл бұрын
Hi ! Nice review.. what you are using to make that video of the skateboarder? its a kind of flycam or only the cage and handle? thanks!
@NYVideoGuy8 жыл бұрын
hey, its just the top handle and a wide angle lens. i was also on a skateboard so it made it a little more smooth.

Thanks John! One more question! hehe... I have some Nikon G lens here.. if i use with the BMMCC I'll lost the stabilization of the lens?? this is my only fear... Thanks in advance bro!

Would any class 10 SDXC card work with this or do you need Sandisk? Thanks for the review. Have you also figured out whether your MFT speedbooster can work on the BMMCC? Or are you restricted to only the Metabones BMPCC to EF speedbooster?
@NYVideoGuy7 жыл бұрын
Zach Boyce ive tried other cards and sandsik (for some reason) was the only one that would work properly

Great video ..what kind of lens can it use and does it record in widescreen?
@NYVideoGuy8 жыл бұрын
hey, I use nikon lenses on it with a metabones speedbooster, but nativity it supports micro four thirds lens. and I dont think it does widescreen, I just shoot in 16x9 and then crop it.

how bad is the IR pollution with the sensor on this camera? have you noticed it?
@NYVideoGuy8 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I havent even noticed it. i read this in a blog somewhere "For those shooting Sony, Canon DSLRs or Cinema cameras you might not have either, because those cameras include an internal Optical Low Pass Filter or “OLPF” with an IR-Cut filter."
