Thank you for doing this,you're the only one that actually covered everything. I was waiting for this camera many years,i had the Ursa G2 which i sold for couple of 6K Pro's and the dual native iso is such a game changer. Now having essentially the pocket 6K pro on the ursa body with extras that's something amazing... The price for this camera is very low ! Can't wait to get one. Thanks and subscribed

My first choice was to buy the Studio Camera 4K Pro with a sigma 16mm f2.8 lens; but, after seeing your video I think maybe the Broadcast G2 with EF lenses could be a better choice? I'll be making some training videos for my clients and will do live streams too. All by myself If is possible, I really like to know your opinon. Which of the 2 cameras would you choose? Hi Ryan, thank you for the review, it was very interesting and useful. I could see this fitting right into our workflow. One question I have is about latency. We film a number of music events where our output goes to IMAG screens either side of stage and latency becomes important. Do you have any idea on the number of frames of latency coming out of the SDI port? We have a fairly easy way to test that if it helps.
@RyanSomerfield
@RyanSomerfield 2 жыл бұрын
to be honest i havent actually checked that on the camera yet. What method do you use to test that out of curiosity?
@eugenoprina
@eugenoprina Жыл бұрын
It is pretty easy. Connect a pro monitor to the SDI output of the camera. Put a clapper board in front of the camera and frame it properly. Use a second camera (this could be even a phone), frame the shot so you see the clapper and the monitor together and start recording. Mark the clapper. Analyze the shot and count how many frames you count between the live clapper and the one in the monitor, that’s all. Please come back with a result as I am very interested in this aspect. You may also make this test with different resolution on output and recording. For example I am very curious what is the latency when you record in UHD25 and output in 1080p25. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for the review. I think you made a mistake about field of view. Smaller sensor = higher crop factor. By the way, when you comment the Broadcast G2 you actually display the Mini Pro G2. So the wider is the Mini Pro G2, not the Broadcast. What I don't get is that the broadcast seems to have a higher crop factor than the 6k but this is the same sensor... This is not good news.

The stop and a half difference between B4 and EF isn't necessarily the mount, but the transmission levels of the different lenses. Unless both lenses were measured in T Stops then light transmission inconsistency is likely the real issue. One really can't use f Stops for mount transmission comparison.

I am in the states and shoot for networks who want the video fed via LiveU/TVU/Dejero. Some of these do not like progressive. I am shootng in camera 23.98 for feature work. I need to feed the 23.98 over these LiveU/TVU/Dejero that rally like interlaced. Can I do this? I see you have the setting to put the camera in 25p and send the vieo out to an interlaced switcher in a live situation. But can you shoot in 25p or 23.98 and send that media you have shot from the camera through a Liveu/TVU/Dejero that typically want interlaced in a feed situation? Thanks

I’m wondering how using the zoom rocker in the Fuji lens worked for you? When we turn our camera on we then need to switch from servo to manual and then back on the lens for the zoom rocker to function. Once done it continues to work...until powered down again. Then repeat the process. Have you found you needed to do the same thing? Thanks.
@RyanSomerfield
@RyanSomerfield 2 жыл бұрын
hmm thats really interesting... im curious if the rocker on the zoom handle is working when you power it up or if you have to "reboot' it for that too, i was under the impression that the servo/manual switch was more of a mechanical thing than a software thing.. but thats news to me! from memory the canon lens just worked each time i booted up

A few thoughts about this review: It is a good and thorough review as long as you are thinking in terms of studio only The camera is called Ursa Broadcast so I guess the main idea is that this camera can be used for ENG work (as the illustration on Blackmagic's site shows) and also studio and film. But the review has no information about the camera as a news camera. As a matter of fact, the camera shown in the. video doesn't even have a viewfinder, what clearly disqualifies it as a camera for field work. It's the first time I hear the first model being called G1. Is this a Blackmagic denomination or the author's ? To say that this camera costs "only" $4,000 is just half the story. They say the camera costs less than £3,000 here in the UK but I didn't know that and spent near £ 9,000 because I couldn't work with the camera only. I needed lenses, viewfinder, camera handle, tripod adapter etc. I bought the combo camera/Fujinon 4 K lens. A separate lenses alone would cost near £10,000. Real news camera are sold as a whole. Buy a Panasonic P2 or a JVC and you will get camera, lenses, viewfinder . They are not sold separately. Literally all reviews I've seen on KZfaq so far talk about this camera and the previous model as a studio camera only. There are no examples of the camera being used in the field. Even the review on newsshooter , which is about the previous model, only shows the camera being used in a TV studio. No work in the field. it seems that most people buy this camera for studio work, concerts etc but not for ENG work. I guess this is one of the reasons why Blackmagic got away so easily with the selling and advertisement of a camera, the first Ursa Broadcast, as a news and studio camera when the camera was for studio work only. Its sensor performs ridiculously bad in low light places, what completely disqualifies it for field work, it doesn't have a proper news codec , the handle is very small and hurts the hands, the audio input is placed on the top of the camera, what is really a bad idea (unless you are thinking in terms of studio only), there is no good body armour for it ( I bought and returned a Porta Brace and another brand) etc.
@SportFlow

yes, it is an affordable studio camera with a lot of quirks and design nonsenses. Picture quality is not bad but the system as a whole has a lot to be desired.

How do you get this on your shoulder without a viewfinder? How do you use it with EF lenses without a handle? At that point im having to get a third party handle and viewfinder, and handle, then I might as well get a lighter and more comfortable shoulder base. Then Im having to rig what supposed to be a broadcast camera. Another very nagging point, I watched this video on a high quality 1080p tv. Why? Because thats what Broadcast is. HD. So on there I never saw any noise you talked about. Or the differences in the EF being sharper than the broadcast lens. Now at home on my 4k screen I see some noise. A very small acceptable amount creeps in when you say its not useable? I barely noticed it, on my 4k screen. I thought we'd shoot raw and change the iso later. Or is getting exposure right number one, if so then why the RAW? So everything paid I have ever done was HD. Nothing looks bad in HD, and in 4k all the setting look great. Another point, if your using the broadcast camera with broadcast lenses, there are industry standard zoom and focus controllers. They havent changed in over 20 years. You can get them very cheaply on ebay. Why on earth would I but USB ones that ONLY work with this ONE CAMERA?! I am interested, but at the end of the day i need a camera to come out of the box, work with what I got and thats it. Im not nubbin together crap rigs on ebay or jugging 6 lenses around. Overall I appreciate your video, but I need to see actual footage, at night and day, of someone shooting with a broadcast and a ef zoom lens for me to even consider this camera. Why is there no viewfinder or support handle for EF lenses included?! IT MAKES NO SENSE!

@@Alminox oh right, sorry good question. To be honest there’s it’s not really a fair comparison. Each lens has different characteristics (even between the same model), I have seen some SD lenses look as good if not better than HD lenses, but also some sd lenses look absolutely horrible, some hd lenses compared together look completely different, if all really depends on the brand and how they’re have manufactured the lenses. How old they are etc. it’s definitely not a “all SD lenses look this way” it really is a try each lens out to see how it looks. Sometimes you can get Lucky with some SD lenses and get a decent image, and sometimes unlucky with “HD” lenses not looking great.. ultimately the best way is to try each lens before you buy. There are some lucky SD lenses out there which you can get super cheap compared to a HD one. I hope that made sense..

@@pilsplease7561 good question, are you looking for a camera to work with 35mm lenses or b4 lenses? basically my go to at the moment is if i need b4 lenses the Broadcast G2 or if i need 35mm lenses the URSA Mini Pro G2. Resolution is not everything, the ursa mini pro is the "lowest" resolution of all of them at the moment but in my opinion the best image and pretty active in the world. Its nice they have the same body too for accessories and such. The 12k I feel is still early development, while its impressive i prefer the 4.6k picture. Hope that helps!

@@RyanSomerfield I would mostly use EF mount lenses, or maybe PL but not B4. I want a camera i can keep 3-6 years and it will be relevant and can be used for documentary work, filming corporate stuff for a winery and filming stuff for my youtube channel out in vineyards and areas outdoors I will also be using it for indie filmmaking so what matters to me is portability, having all the features I want like XLR and etc on the body and having good battery life. I dont really need anything over 4k as I would never upload anything higher than 4k Its just nice to have to so when i output a file it comes out as 4k but I want to record in say 6k so that I get some extra quality. The 12k is so close in cost that im tempted honestly but I dont need it and the files would make editing a nightmare as its all braw and fairly high requirements for editing. So Kinda thinking the Broadcast cause it has stuff I want and is 6k. And it has XLR ports so I can hook up boom mics and stuff which is key for me.

I should have mentioned that graph in the video was from the 6k camera I found online, not from the broadcast.. was more to show the difference between the 2 ranges so I haven’t actually seen a chart yet for the broadcast g2 yet. I’d be surprised if it’s different to the 6k pro

@@RyanSomerfield Ok interesting. The graph you found is outdated, and they've updated it. The Pocket 6k has 5.9 above middle gray at ISO 400 and 6.9 stops above mg at ISO 800. I really hope they keep the same dynamic range allocation, but I haven't found a chart for the Broadcast G2 anywhere

@@leebrandt8597 ahh nice! I’d imagine they would be the same but who knows.. I haven’t got the tools to really test it properly

@@RyanSomerfield I have measured the Pocket 6k Pro's dynamic range with a spot meter. When grading in wide gamut (the widest color space) and highlight recovery, I get 9 stops above middle gray. I haven't measured the stops below middle gray but let's assume that Blackmagic Design is right when they say 6.5 below (at ISO 800). When grading in HDR with wide gamut, the zones graph indicates that you have 15.5 stops of dynamic range, which is exactly what I'm getting with the spot meter (9 above, 6.5 below). Blackmagic Design is being too conservative when they say 13 stops.

@@leebrandt8597 afaik it depends how small SNR you allow. BMD actually selects a bit worse SNR than the industry standard tests usually no. Unless the camera really does a cut like some do, then it's more about what you feel workable. Of course the ADC and codec will limit the dynamic range too but that's another topic.

i dont undersdant field news collector and what an ATM has to do with telemetry and I don't have a moped, you made Polish language on the menu, make instructions in Polish and turtiale because google the wrong translator

Hi there, I’m sorry, the language is automatic and must have made some mistakes. Field news collectors are people who are gathering news outside the studio with hosts. And the Blackmagic products all can be controlled via the Blackmagic ATEM vision switchers. I am actually not sure how to change the translation I am sorry!

@@RyanSomerfield thanek you, you need to use simple English and more descriptive terms in your turtials, because professional ones are not translated well by google in the automatic translation process when displaying with subtitles, Polish is in the URSA G2 menu, I did not find Polish in the manual, why ??? 😀 ATM is in polish cash machine

@@videokadr7112 oh that is very strange.. I know the different languages in the cameras are quite recent but that must be annoying trying to read the manual!

I’m curious what style of filming you are doing that the rolling shutter is an issue? Lots of whip panning?
