This piece of seemingly Coober Pedy Opal rough is actually Andamooka Seam Opal and this is what leads me to believe I have a nice Crystal Opal or two or three on my hands! However, in this world of Opal cutting, you never really know what you will end up with once the cutting and polishing session is over. Tune in to see what lies beneath the sandy exterior.

In the 80's my Step Dad bought my Mom a carved opal lady pendant. This pendant wasn't flat. The lady stood about 2 inches high and was carved on all sides. My Mom called her Mi Ling. It was gorgeous. My parents divorced and my Step Dad has it. I've NEVER seen anything like it since. I've looked. It has to be worth a pretty penny but to me it just reminds me of my Mom. She loved opals and passed that love along to me. My Mom died in 1985 but I know she would have loved watching this channel!!!!

I know it's a pain. But is it possible whenever you cut a parcel of rough, just to film it. For me it's the best part of the process. It's like putting a bet on a horse, you never know if it's a winner. You don't even have to talk. Although that's always informative.

@@kerrypitt9789I'm going to give a full and complete answer, then anyone reading this will finally understand. once again, this is nothing to do with me not liking the chat. I love it. The amount of time it must take to set a video up in terms of controlling chat, and messages, ensuring the editing is done correctly, the use of a lovely assistant to collate, and sort messages and technical difficulties means that we can't have a video everytime he sits at the wheel, because it would get in the way of his true business. Opal cutting. I was trying to save him the heartache of all of this by just being able to sit down. Press one other button, and bang! A camera focused on the cutting wheel, and we get to watch him cut all of his rough opal. As to whether I like him talking. Of course I do. He's a lovely guy. But he's a lovely guy with a business to run too.

This is so interesting to me. Our Science department at my college is currently having us run studies on more effective ways to remove Sand and Potch from Gemstones. We have a Chemical compounding test (Which is still very much a fail as it weakens the stone over the acceptable limit.) As well as a precision Lazer that so far has been able to be calibrated so that it only flakes off the Sand and leaves the stone intact. It's got a lot more work to go into it but the hopeful outcome is that we will ve able to remove just the unwanted bits inside the Stone and give a clear and clean look for the cutter on how to maximize the stone's beauty and color.
