The dark is realistic. In a blacksmith shop you judge the temp of the steel based on color of the glow. It needs to be dark to see the color.
@0utcast
@0utcast Жыл бұрын
& tempering is done by heating the metal to the upper third of its subcritical temp and quenching in oil water or forced air. he was basically dunking a melted rod into the water sharpening it and selling a sharpened rod with a wood handle. i guess it could be used as a bronze truncheon

I met an actual blacksmith once. Not like, someone who does blacksmithing for fun, but someone whose job was being accurately representing traditional blacksmithing. He was making nails. For a house. One at a time. By hand. For an _entire house_ He was an experienced blacksmith, so it only took him about a minute to make each individual nail. _For an entire house_

FYI for anyone who wants to play this game, his frustration with the instructions is 100 percent legit. I was pulling my hair out. And I'm a pretty calm duder. Also, if the guy who made this game happens to see this comment: Please, for all that is good in the world, put a lot more work into the sound design of the music. It sounds like you used Sibelius(Sheet music composition software) and imported your composition using their midi sounds. The composition is actually pretty good (Though it doesn't really fit the mood of blacksmithing in a fantasy world). It's the sounds themselves. If you need someone to transpose your music into another program and make some better sounding instruments, let me know. I'll do it for free if it means I can enjoy this game more.
@dolynpi7834
@dolynpi7834 3 жыл бұрын
Not only is the sound design poor, but they used someone else's art for the patrons at the door. More specifically, they used a dress up game for them instead of hiring an artist, and I kinda doubt they got permission to use it.

@@paulandersbullecer3152 not entirely true, its a long story but it turned out to be a specific natural alloy of steel that was refined using the crucible steel method, so it was very pure, and that alloy had a dark and light stripe pattern in it. The folding proccess was another way of removing impurities but not for damascus, that was just low quality high carbon steel that needed the extra work to make it more pure, Modern day what people make and call damascus is very pure steel of 2 different alloys forge welded together to make cool patterns, and is just as strong as any other modern steel blade, some times less so if the smith messed up the forge welds.

Mark playing this game taught me what a pommel is! That's pretty cool. I think the Fantasy Blacksmith game could get more fun as one plays it more and learns how to do it better as they practice. But at least Mark played one off of it to show it off. Still amazing to think so far in the past, that certain people were skilled enough to blacksmith things and aid others with their creations. I hope blacksmiths felt appreciated in the past. And if there's still blacksmiths today, I appreciate all your skills to work with melting hot materials in order to craft so many different things for people to use.

Your right, the full game looks much better (& plays better) than the tutorial & has more in depth game play. if you'd like to watch a playthrough of My Little Blacksmith Shop; Jacksepticeye has atleast 1 video on it, IGP has 14 videos on the game (I'd recommend his series the most), & GrayStillPlays has a shorter series of it as well.

Mark. The Devs are thinking about either making a sequel or only working on the current one. If you want to help them a bit with it you should contact them. They not only want to know all the issues people have and try to fix the, should they stick with the old one, but more importantly if they do make a sequel, they will implement a lot more since they said they are more experienced now with development itself. People. I ask you. Look into the game. Maybe help the devs. Show them that this is a game which is pretty much the only one that is able to scratch an itch no other game can scratch like this. Getting an even better version of it with even more content. I think this is what Mark would really love to see. And of course without the problems the first one had.

I enjoy your content Mark, so here's some friendly advice about blacksmithing (from a hobbyist). 1. Heating to a working temp is different for each material, so read up and know what you need for the material you have. 2. The "tempering" you did is actually the quenching. That's what hardens the material to hold an edge. It makes steel hard, but brittle. 3. Actual tempering comes after the quench. You heat up material under the working temp and let it slowly cool. This relaxes the material making a blade that is strong and ductile. 4. If you really do love blacksmithing watch KZfaq channels about the craft. I recommend Black Bear Forge, Alec Steele, Green Beetle, and a bunch more.

You don't get subscribers that way, as all you will do is annoy people and make them report your account for spamming comments. You get subscribers by having good content first and foremost, the second thing you need is a good channel name. Your current name is again something nobody would bother with. In all honesty I highly doubt your story, as that sounds about as disingenuous as telling everyone you will subscribe to everyone who subscribes to you. It's not conventional to do that, and so this whole thing is shady.

Mark, I'm a fan of Blacksmith games for years and also your fan for years, so nice to see you playing this. I know this is gonna sound off, but I think the best Blacksmithing game for you would be "Jacksmith", a flash game, same creators than "Papa's pizzaria" games. Why? Because it's piss easy to understand even without tutorials, and you do have a lot of customization options and because soldiers actually test your weapons in war, and after a while you even help them fight with a cannon. But the thing is: MASTERING perfect 100% pieces all the time is hard as balls. took me practice to get it.

I enjoy this game sometimes when I want to ignore peopleXD A couple quality of life tips for the game, since I stuck it out (with help from obnoxious comments in VC with me): 1) you can use the do not disturb so that people won't knock when you know you won't make it there in time (like in the mine) 2) if you keep your swords on the rack, people will buy them eventually! If you make them too well, though, you actually loose money for a while (when they commission or buy swords, they ask for a particular quality, and if you go over that, you don't get reimbursed enough) 3) You can sell the things you find in the mine! I don't remember if you have to buy the table or not, but you can sell those (that's how I made most of my money>.>) 4) in the mine, you have to find 3 ores and then combine them to get ingots. It's kinda annoying at first, but honestly I could mine in that game all day listening to something else like a podcast. 5) *I turned all the brightness settings up, and then I could see things, and my world changed* (this is just a preference, but also useful for finding things on the floor) 6) Damascus is actually a lot of fun to make in my opinion, sort of like mismatch tetris 7) TEMPERING: You wait for the *sound* to stop, not the flames (the book is dumb, people get tempering to work this way) *If you do actually temper the sword though, it's harder to sell to customers and you basically sell to the void or keep the sword forever till someone can pay enough Basically, it's a time-sink game where you just wanna heat some metal and mine for random shit! I haven't gotten high enough level to do any of the magic stuff, but Damascus is fun to do (and people knocking sometimes request it alone!)

@@harrisenlysaght The Mulan remake, though I like to think it's a... _bit_ better. The original definitely carried stronger messages about anyone being able to do things, but the new one kind of threw a lot of that away with Mulan being _special_ and having super magic.

Ok, Mark, when you shape a blade in real life you are supposed to heat it, hammer it out, and then cool it with water, like you did (kinda). However, when you temper a blade you need to heat it and let it cool in the air afterwards. Depending on the heat this will then tamper the blade towards different effects; a colder tampering will harden the steel, while a warmer tampering will increase its flexibility (toughness). Lastly, what is considered cold and warm tempering is relative to the material used. No idea if this helps or you are ever going to play the game again, but there you have it. =)

Fantasy Blacksmith As someone who works with metal quite a bit, I nearly screeched watching that bronze heat up... LUL It even said "700-870 degrees" for bronze. That being said, color is usually a great indicator for temperature of a metal (provided you understand how that metal reacts to heat). Bronze and iron are fairly commonplace metals, so you shouldn't have too many problems, in terms of coloration timing. But steel will be a little more difficult (if they have steel, which I assume they would). Second, it seems like your hammer broke, and you'd need to buy another one. (Was wrong, seems like game glitched, maybe.) Third, tempering is achieved once the "boiling sound" goes away. Then you can cool it. So wait for the flames and sizzle to stop. Fourth, I'm so glad this is a game, because that final sword would never work irl. LUL My Little Blacksmith Shop Being honest, seems like it needs more work if it is going to actually be a blacksmithing game. Regardless of my rant, I absolutely love your content. Please don't think I'm trying to harp in any way, just trying to help. This is just one of the few areas that I have a fair amount of knowledge in, irl. Please continue. You truly are a beacon of light to many.
