Very cool, personally I like the combination of welding / riveting and smithing on the same piece. The oiling looks like the most satisfying part just about . .

Fantastic. So many people think knives, axes or blades of some kind when they hear the word blacksmith....In my opinion, THIS type of blacksmithing is much more interesting! Out with forged in fire, In with Crafted in Coal!!
@ForgedInHolland Жыл бұрын
I started blacksmithing with an interest in forging knives which quickly turned into a bigger interest in artistic blacksmithing work. I do want to make a few knives / swords in the future.

Trenton Tye of Purgatory Ironworks is trying to do exactly that! He is getting something going with that format called black iron, a show more focused on traditional blacksmithing!

I don't comment often , As blacksmithing is only my hobby. I am a retired boiler maker in Australia and I watch You Tube videos for Ideas on how to do make things . And I would like to say Watching you young man has been a good learning experience to me so thank you for the inspiration and keep up the spectacular work you do . Cheers.

oh, no! an angle grinder...it would have been hand-crankec in Viking times...and welding, without a dragon.. nice sculpting on the eyed and "face" but, I was upset a bit with welding and power tools.... nice design, looks great.

Bravo! I recently started getting into various heads lol. Ive previously done alot of skull pendants and flat demon/goulish heads, but now that I'm at the point where I feel comfortable selling some my work, I want to incorporate these into the hook sets I do. Really love hes holding the candles. I wanna do something similar for my alter. I was thinking riveting on arms and legs and making a tail to hold the candle. 🍻

Fantastic work! This shows why hand-forged items aren’t cheap. You really got the face right. It’s easy to get one eye a bit out of place. Putting the oil on hot - or burning it with a little torch (or in the forge) can give a nice long lasting black finish.
@ForgedInHolland Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Sometimes I like a the shiny finish of the metal more than a burned black oil finish.
@johnd111 Жыл бұрын
Fair enough. Your finish looks excellent. I had problem as you with drift getting stuck, and I realised that I needed to stop hitting them when the workpiece cool down a little bit. Doing it in two or three goes seemed to work a lot better for me.

Great looking dragon!! If you want to quiet your anvil without fiddeling around with magnets, I recommend to put alt least 2 layerys of bituninous sheetings between anvil and stand. it will compensate any small differences of hight. The anvil will settle down by a short time. The bituninous sheetings will damp the ringing noise pretty good. best wishes Christoph

that's what i would call "beautiful blacksmithing", you gave all the beauty trough your hands and knowledge, no bullshit, no fancy tools. How did you come up with that process ? if someone asked me to make him a dragon head i'd be scratching my head for a while
@ForgedInHolland Жыл бұрын
Originally I learned to forge dragon heads from KZfaq. This design is a combination of a lot of things I learned along the way and is unique to me.
