Kevin, I have been debating one myself, I have a gas grill, an electric smoker and a pellet grill, having a little issue with storing everything, I am not the best at keeping my cast iron pan seasoned well, I have seen a lot of videos of people having to remove rust from the grill, from not using it enough. A lid would be a great idea, it would help with humidity and moisture. I do watch the flat top king, and you can cook anything on them, I do want one, a sale just might get it done for me, thanks.

I have learned that you let it cool down after it stop smoking, then add your next coat of oil, then let it smoke/burn off and then let it cool down, repeat again and again. This is also why your paper towel came apart, it was too hot, needed to let it cool down.

If you have a Model 1885 28" griddle, it will warp because the griddle top has a manufacturing/engineering defect that will not allow it to lock in place. The holes are actually about 1/2" too close together. If you drill out the back of the back holes so the front pins will lock into place, it will be a lot less likely to warp. You can easily see this by locking the front pins in place while keeping the back pins out of the holes. When you then set the back of the cooking surface down, you will see the back pins are behind the existing holes. Pretty easy fix with a drill and round file. Other than that, mine is great! For the price, I didn't mind having to drill a couple holes.

Just spraying would’ve been enough. The paper towel is for when you’re dumping the oil/conditioner on there, to help spread it out

I just assembled mine. The only thing I'm not sure about is that silver plate that's located underneath the burners. Did yours come with one? If so, do we remove it? The reason I ask is because mine only had one screw in it, but It seems my griddle didn't come with any other screws to get that sliver plate screwed on right.

Question, for I guess anyone on here. My griddle won't turn black completely like yours did in the video. I don't really have room to turn it around like you did to "Play the Wind" on it. Any recommendations from anyone as to what I should do? Or just not even worry about it since I did coat it several times with oil?? TIA
@Robinson-Homestead
@Robinson-Homestead 5 ай бұрын
As long as your food isn't sticking it should be fine. I was wondering are you getting it hot enough when you season it?
@parrodii3140
@parrodii3140 5 ай бұрын
@@Robinson-HomesteadThanks for answering. I turned the burners both up on high and let it run for about 10 or 15 minutes before I even started with the seasoning process and did it several more times, each time waiting until it stopped smoking from the time before. I did around 7 or 8 coatings and still just got like a large black spot in the middle with about 3-4 inches all the way around it. But I did use it for the first time the other day frying some hand sliced country ham on it and it stuck initially, but after I turned the flame down to about a medium high heat, it didn't stick any more after and turned out pretty good to me. Thanks again for responding.
@arey256
@arey256 4 ай бұрын
@@parrodii3140you could take off the griddle and turn it 180 degrees so that the from is in the back and the back is in the front and that should coat all of your grill.

Do not buy this unless you realize this griddle is designed to not go below 400 degrees and has no air gap adjustment to balance out the two sides. Also if you buy it from some where other than directly from Blackstone they will not support any griddle. Good luck.
