Luke, I was incredibly happy to hear your take on Brandel, how you approached your review with an open mind were ok going against the status quo. I did the same thing when I went back and looked at Darnold's play after the Vikes signed him. I can't see the detail and nuance that you can, but I think if you just pay attention to a player you can see why the coaches might like them. I wonder if Brandel would also be a little more natural on the left side as well? The $9m deal for 3 years could be a Kwesi masterstroke if it works out. My default is to always trust the coaches implicitly because they have so much more skill and knowledge, but also information and background that we are just not aware of. Re Feeney - he filled in a Centre for the Bears in week 18 vs the Packers and went pretty well against Kenny Clark for the most part. He seems like a solid back up for all the IOL spots. I wonder if Rouse/Jurgens are also in play at LG if Brandel struggles? Nestor and Flax seem likely PS guys too, so it feels to me like the Vikes have created layers of default possibilities.

After watching this show I wet back and watched Brandel in the Raiders in week 16 and Packers in week 18 and I can see what Luke meant. Brandel looked strong - held up easily against bull-rushes, and looks like he has pretty quick feet. If anything he did too much sometimes, overshooting his gap once and missing Maxx Crosby - but that can be fixed, unlike being too slow. After watching him more closely I feel pretty confident that he will do well, especially back on his natural left hand side, and after a lot more practice with the starters to improve his timing. As fans we don't see what the coaches see everyday. I don't understand why some fans seem so keen to second guess the coaches. Skol!

there's something that I think about a lot when it comes to "former prospect" guys like Feeney - it's that going back to the draft, down to the absolute last pick, there are less players drafted each year than doctors or lawyers that get their certification. it's an extremely scarce accomplishment to be the kind of player in football that gets drafted at all, regardless of how short or long, memorable or forgettable one of their careers turns out to be

the contract is... Cutable BUT higher than Risner. Good for both if it works out.

They seem to have a lot of faith in Blake's continued development. Paid him good and stuck him in the starting spot, when from what I've seen he was below average at best. That's why we trust the coaches though, I expect him to be elite.

Good call. And I remember KOC talking him up multiple times. The coaches see them everyday - so it seems foolish to contradict them. Brandel looked pretty mediocre at LT, but his worst was against Micah Parsons and LG could be a much better fit for him. Rouse is always there as a fall back option too. He is also big with long reach which could be handy.
