Yeah man, totally agree. Terracotta pots are super useful in the hoppy. Cheap too as you said. No real drawbacks.

Great video. I have a bunch of tiny ones that I used in my bare bottom tank. I eventually removed them but still use them from time to time on other projects.

i do the same thing with plastic containers with moving plants around from tank to tank and boosting the bactiera within new tanks, great video very inforitive

I'm going to try fluval stratum substrate in a aquarium. I'm going to have multiple terracotta pots containing organic compost and topped with gravel. Crypts will be grown in the pots. On the ground in the fluval stratum I will grow a carpeting plant. The pots will provide surface area for micro-organisms to procreate. I think this setup will ensure my fish fry will have a lot of hiding places and food available to them.

so... you have planted pots in your aquarium. I understand they are aquatic plants but... how to you build your substrate/soil for the pots? I loved that idea, and want to replicate it.

Instead of pots I use small glass vases that I find at the thrift store. Vases, candy bowls, tea cups. Anything thats clear glass. Will there be problems if theres no holes in the containers?

I found cleaning my 30gallon aquariums to be to much work especially if planted. I wanted to see if anyone had a similar idea of using potted plants because it would be so easy to lift, clean substrate and place back down! I'm suprised more people arnt doing this because it's just a win imo! Ty for your input! I also plan to use terracotta saucers to hold white sand so it can hold sinking food pellets but also being easy to clean by lifting up, rinsing sand and placing down every other week.

Yay. I have 2 5gallon betta tanks and am forever uprooting and knocking plants out of gravel when I do a vac. My poor plants will be much happier not swimming all over the place every week
