I'd love to see you all do a rock climbing competion, but I have no trouble believing you'd win Kyle. Leto's in his mid 40s and has gone through enough body changes for roles that he likely wouldn't be able to match the stamina and skill of a much younger and consistent climber. Momoa's got about 30-40 kilos on you, so he'd be moving a whole lot more mass. If he could out climb you, that would be scarily impressive. Still, probably be fun to watch.

Charisma is an expression of a force of personality, just because it's a temporary state doesn't mean that it's not genuinely potent. "seeming" charismatic is the same thing as "being" charismatic. I think often charismatic people don't KNOW that they're charismatic because it's an effect you have on *other people*, you don't really experience it yourself directly.

Thanks to you I was able to explain why Parkour experts can survive falls that would normally break a person. I was explaining to a co worker that if you had the reaction time to roll at the beginning of a fall, extending the duration of the deceleration, you could theoretically survive a fall from any height. Including orbit. It all started when we talked about the old saying that the crash isn't what kills you, it's the sudden stop. I even had to explain that your body and organs continue to move at said speed even though the car itself rapidly or suddenly decelerated.

For the person that commented about Blastoid's water cannon cutting steal, a typical water jet machine does not use water alone. The reason a water jet is able to cut thick steel relatively quickly is because the water is transporting an abrasive grit. A stream of pure water would need a lot more energy to cut steel that a grit water mixture.

This correction is for the dragon night who estimates Kyle's SPECIAL stats. In the Fallout universe, SPECIAL stats are limited to a maximum of 10 points each, it's possible to get them higher through the use of mods, but that's cheating. The stats you estimated would have been more at home on a (slightly op) dnd character sheet, but unless we see a "Because Warlocks©®™" spinoff, that's not really relevant here.

Episode idea. This has been on my mind lately. In How to Train Your Dragon, how many Gs is Hiccup pulling when he's flying on Toothless? Is it possible to survive flying to the heights and speeds he does when he's not in a pressurized chamber (such as a fighter pilot inside their jet)? Evidence and info to use can be from either of the two movies, the Cartoon Network TV shows (Riders of Berk & Defenders of Berk), or the follow up Netflix series (Race to the Edge). There's actually a lot of cool stuff in the franchise that would be neat to explore with your kind of work. The creators decided to not include magic in their series and keep things a little more "scientific" when it comes to the dragons. Example: Deadly Nadders shoot magnesium fire, Night Furies shoot plasma, Gronkles fly like bumblebees, etc.

I know I'm a bit late to this, but everyone forgets that the first example of a directed energy beam weapon, like a laser, in science fiction was silent and invisible. In H.G. Wells' The War Of The Worlds, the Heat Ray that the martians use can soften steel, melt lead and crack glass or make it melt instantly. If the beam hits water, that water instantly becomes steam in a cascading explosion, and if it hits a building, the temperature change and maybe pressure change can cause the house to explode. The author described the beam as an invisible hand of death, as if you ran from it, you couldn't know if you were out of its range or if you were in position to dodge it. The first you'd know about it was when your skin and clothes flashed into fire and you passed out from your blood literally boiling. This is much more terrifying than any other interpretation of lasers and it was the first ever version. The most you'd see it is if you looked right at the source, where you may see a flash from the mirror inside the gun, or just the trail of fire it made. The sad bit is that no other version of sci-fi heat weapons, not even in adaptations of Wells' book, have kept this is cos it's "too visually boring" It would actually be cool if you could do an episode on the science of the Heat Ray from the book and the movies! Love the show.

The point of the 'give charizard a timescale' comments wasn't to make you use power caluculations, but to give charizard the same restriction you gave the other two: five seconds to do an attack. The sun is effectively UNLIMITED POWER (sorry), so if you didn't give Venusaur the time restriction it would easily dwarf the other two. Since we don't know how long it takes for Charizard to melt a boulder, and there's no 'melt boulder' attack that suggests he can do it in a single move, you're comparing apples to oranges. On another note, Blastoise and other water pokemon can pretty clearly CREATE water (one entry says Blastoise can fill an Olympic swimming pool in seconds), so you could say he dwarfs the other two by creating that much mass-energy according to E = mc^2.

Hey Kyle, or whoever else may be interested. Concerning the whole "hitting empty cans at long distances". I recall an episode of Mythbusters where they tried making a water gun taser, and they ran into the issue of the "beam" of water breaking up after a while. Similarly, the water in tall waterfalls also breaks up on its way down. Planes dumping water over wildfires rely on this physical phenomenon to mist large areas. How would Blastoise be able to propel a pellet or stream of water over any kind of longer distance without the water breaking up from wind resistance and fluid dynamics? Going faster would only serve to accelerate the disintegration of the water projectile. I believe the empty cans are quite safe on their perch.

The most terrifying thing about blinding laser weapons to me is that we have computers that are extremely compact that can detect thousands of eyes per second, and it only takes a few watts of laser energy to blind at some pretty large distances. Put both of those things on a fleet of drones and you can just pass over a city and blind everyone in a matter of minutes. There are hundreds of individual people with the resources to do something like that, not to mention nations and companies. That's absolutely terrifying.

More laser stuff: Is it true that some lasers ionize the air in their path, thereby becoming visible and able to carry a current. If so: could twin beams of that sort, connections to an electrical battery work as a tazer? ”Set lasers for stun!” What kind of wavelengths and Watts would we be talking about? Would it make a cool zapping sound? Second, the lasers in Fallout carry enough energy to do serious damage... How much energy does small and large energy cells contain? Shouldn’t they realistically be prone to exploding when they fail? How far are they from present energy storage technology? Thanks for great videos, cheers!

IDK what I did with it, but blastoises entry stated "it can pump out hundreds of gallons of water (as much as an olympic sized swimming pool) every minute" I'm assuming when typing the entry they accidentally put "hundreds" vs "hundreds of thousands" , as they were more specific about it being the same volume as an olympic sized swimming pool every minute. Remember this is cannon from gen one. MATH TIME! An official olympic swimming pool has 660,253.09 gallons of water (yes i was surprised by the .09) . Divide that by 2= 330,126 gallons per minute per water cannon(44131 cubic ft), or 5,502 gallons per second, per cannon. Lets assume that the cannons have a 4" internal diameter, to acheive this flow rate ( not counting for resistance) water would have to be shooting out at 5,600 mph (8,213 fps). Since a gallon of water is 8.34 lbs, traveling at 8,213 fps, each gallon should hit with 8,742,467 ft lbs (or 11,853,193 joules) of energy. Doing the ft/lbs calculation to psi you get 60,711 psi (over a full sq ft). ****this is where my math admittedly gets shaky, not sure im using the correct percentages***** a sq ft is 144 sq inches, where as a 4" diameter nozzle would be ~ 13 sq inches. So it puts the full psi into 1/10th the area. If this is the case, blastoise pumps out water @ 607,110 psi, nonstop, for atleast a full minute. 13sq inches in a 4" dia circle x 607,110 = 7,892,430 lbs , or 3,946.21 tons of pressure in a spot the size of your palm, per cannon.

You know what I always asked myself? How are these "Hangar Doors" in Star Wars actually working. Seems like they have a kind of field, strong enough to keep the air inside the space ship. But it lets massive structures pass through, without loosing the ability to still keep the air inside.

Mhm that is an interesting thought experiment, you once showed a video clip of someone moving his/her hand through molten metal. If i remerber correctly you pointed out that it didn't harm him/her because there was not enough time for the heat of the molten metal to transfer. But in one of the older videos you said that just turning a lightsaber on would set you on fire, practicaly instantaneous. Wonder how it will go. Also it would be cool if you could make a video for the following topic. ''Would you want to have Lasersight like Cyclops?'' Love the show, keep it up Kyle.

How would taking Pokédex entries from other generations mean that we'd have to take those generations' Pokémon into account? I can get that some people may ask about how powerful the starters of other regions are in comparison to each other, but none of the entries for the Gen 1 starters; I checked; have anything to do with other Pokémon. They simply either give a little bit more information, scientifically relevant to its power or not, or rehash the same old information.
@Red-Faction

My thoughts exactly, that made no sense. You don't need to take anything other than the pokedex entries into account...to take the pokedex entries into account.

He was reaching a bit there, to keep the idea of using just Gen 1 information. It's unfair, imo, to hse that Charizard entry when the other two don't have an entry to help calculate their power, but w/e. It's all for fun anyway.

Well considering that several years pass through each generation and that Pokemon are bred for certain traits(Strength, Speed, Etc). I think would be a fair assumption to think that the Pokemon and their Pokedex entries would be naturally getting stronger, faster, ect. then previous generations. Considering that this is based on the starter Pokemon of Pallet Town in Generation 1, I don't think it's fair to count traits of future generations.
@Daniel_Coffman
@Daniel_Coffman 5 жыл бұрын
That is a good point, but I'm not sure many Pokémon really show a progression of strength like that. However, there is also a possible timeline to consider, as Ruby and Sapphire are said to take place at the same time as Gen 1, Gen 2 taking place at the same time as Gen 4, 3 years after the events of gens 1 and 3, etc. Granted that it does get convoluted in Gen 6 and the Gen 3 remakes with the alternate timeline thing.

Using pokedex entries isn't enough anyway, some of the entries are ridiculous, and they break the game's internal logic. Why does it say Charizard can melt rocks when he himself is extremely weak to rock types and they resist fire?

First off thanks again Kyle for making another awesome BS vid! Regardless of favoritism or which Pokemon you think is cooler or better or whatever... Kyle is right in this video "Which Starter Pokémon Is the Most Powerful?" For disclosure I honestly don't care which Pokemon is coolest (I think they're all cool which we can all agree on that to some degree. But which one should we actually choose? I do appreciate Pokemon and have played various games and by no means am I a Pokemon Buff. I always based my decision on personal preference, or which Pokemon I thought related to my style most. Which again we all can relate. But the title of this video isn't which Pokemon is more awesome or cool it's talking specifically about their real life effectiveness measured in Joules. So lets dive into it. Also further disclosure I am not a grammar or fluid writer so please don't point out my spelling and or paragraph form errors. I know it's not good lol. Also in any debate we need to remember to stay focused on one main idea. For example, I could say Star Wars is better than Star Trek and vise versa. Well are we comparing their overall stats? Which we would have to break down very carefully and logically. Or are we just focusing on one element of the two different movie franchises? Further example being... I could say Star Trek has better character development than Star Wars. I could say Star Wars has a far superior sound track. But these details aren't going to determine the overall final debate. That being said all fair arguments here and realize this video doesn't make Charizard the best starter Pokemon. It definitely supports his power and Pokemon of choice in a real world situation. On a side note I would have liked to seen this video redone without the Pokedex supporting Charizard's boulder melting. It just straight up leaves Blastoise and Venusaur at a disadvantage. I know Kyle addresses this in this video but again it leaves the other two Pokemon at an unfair advantage. I know Blastoise and Venusaur's Pokedex Intel is not really anything helpful like mentioned. But If we're trying to get as realistic as possible I would want to see all three really analyzed in the real world. That or realize that a creature like Charizard can posses such a strong chemical in his body to create flames strong enough to melt boulders and what current flame that we know of that posses that heating potential? I would like to have seen a real world example of flame that is used today that can actually cause boulders to melt. Cause by simply giving him Pokedex advantage disrupts the balance. But Kyle also addresses this by using later generation Pokedex for both Blastoise and Venusaur. And they do still fall short. So in terms of Pokedex it still leaves Charizard as the winner in potential energy output. But I want to see a straight up real world adaptation of the three Pokemon without any Pokedex support. Because where would Charizard stand in that video if we just referred to his flame as any regular average flame? Like Charizards body mass and realistically how much flame can he contain in his body at once. Just the way Blastoise and Venusaur were analyzed. So in other words take the degrees of the hottest natural flame. As is this real world scenario if Pokemon were real these creatures are natural and not scientifically altered or created. So even though "Scientists have produced superheated gas exceeding temperatures of 2 billion degrees Kelvin, or 3.6 billion degrees Fahrenheit. This is hotter than the interior of our Sun, which is about 15 million degrees Kelvin, and also hotter than any previous temperature ever achieved on Earth, they say." Well as great as that is it is not natural. Which would look more like.... "How hot does that fire get? Generally, high rise fires burn at about 593 Celsius or 1,100 Fahrenheit. This is not hot enough to destroy metals or earthly-made substances but it is hot enough that these fires cause $8.6 billion dollars in property damage according to FEMA." (Citing from Google and skysaver.com/blog/hot-can-fire-get-skysaver-rescue-backpacks/ and www.livescience.com/614-record-set-hottest-temperature-earth-3-6-billion-degrees-lab.html) Only thing I would have done is changed the title of the video to "Which Starter Pokemon Has the Strongest Energy Output?" Unless you are using the word powerful to just define one of the many attacks that each Pokemon possess in their arsenal. In the first 2:21 minutes into the video the main point here is which Pokemon has the most affect on other objects and stuff. Further more overall energy output of the Pokemon's basic attacks is being looked at. Or signature attack if you will. But overall the title of the video and I think misinterpretation of this debate is not whether one Pokemon is better than the other. It is again simply determining which Pokemon has the most powerful attack. But does not make them the better choice. Regardless of the title of the video Kyle's main point and conclusion is correct. Charizard has the strongest energy output with "one of his attacks" So in terms of comparison and debate all that's being compared in this video is only one of the attacks each Pokemon uses. What's not being compared is their other attacks stats etc.. And for those of you who think Charizard is the most powerful starter Pokemon. You're right he is but only based on again the comparison between one of the many attacks the three Pokemon poses. Charizard still isn't the starter Pokemon you should choose. As Kyle explained this is a previous episode (Episode 74) Published on Feb 25, 2016. In Kyle's other video "Which Pokemon Should You REALLY Choose?" Kyle comes to the conclusion that you should pick Squirtle. Now yes he is comparing their first evolution's and mostly their in game potential. And at the end of the video Kyle does briefly bring up their final evolution stages. And his only comment about Charizard is he looks dope in his dopeness. He still defends Squirtles later forms as having higher potential. Which is true he does look dope. And he does have the strongest attack in terms of energy output. But he is not the best starter Pokemon to choose. So to put this debate to rest (Which it never will as Kyle say's in the video. So overall its up to interpretation and ultimately how we are debating the topic. Kyle I have been watching your videos for years and I absolutely love your channel. I always recommend your show to everyone I know. I know How to Cite an Website in APA just too lazy and lol because I've already been working on this for 2 hours XD If y'all really want me to properly cite I will -_- ......... I like the fact that someone found that blastoise can go threw steel but it dosent say the thickness so it could be 1/4 inch to about 1 inch. You would probably need more MPa to go threw thicker steel. Also if pickachu could use thunder well move over charizard, thunder is way more powerfull. Also if we are talking about realisticaly, pickachu probably uses something like the tesla coil in amount of power. Because if pickachu would be huged well that person is dead or there would be a serious hole in the ground.

How Charizard´s calcs would be affected if we assumed the theory about his fire comes from igniting metane inside his lungs? (this theory kinda explains how he die if the tail goes off, beacuse is a escape tube and if it´s blocked there is to much inside him)

I would love it if you did another episode on Fallout, but focus on an energy weapon (in some ways at least) that not many do: The Gauss Rifle. In my opinion that weapon is one that the Fallout games have done wrong, sure enough with the actual ammo being small pellets of what ever magnetic material, but the energy required to give it momentum should be fairly large, and imo should require not only the normal ammo of the weapon, but also energy cells at the very least.
