The problem in Iron Maiden was he was set up to fail. Rod Smallwood didn't like him, the fans decided not to like him, and the band refused to change the key on their songs to match his voice. I feel "The X Factor" was underated, and is in my top 10 Iron Maiden albums.

Blaze really is someone to look up to. Everything he's been through. I was so exited when he joined Maiden. Year 1994 reading Kerrang, Metal-hammer and Scream magazine in Norway, just waiting for new stuff about Iron Maiden. Then, when the Man on the edge singel came out.... What a great singel. Judgement day was also one hell of a song for me. X-Factor and Virtual XI is one of my all time favorite Maiden albums. Both tours was a blast to watch! Can't remember being more exited to any concerts than that. To sum this up: Blaze era for me, is magical. And it was in a time periode of my life, when Maiden was my life. I love Blaze, and all the songs he did with Maiden. They played for 1500 people in Oslo, Norway on the X-Factour and it was magical for me. Got to met the band outside of the Oslo Plaza hotel, waiting 4 hours for them. They where so calm and nice to everyone. Blaze looking sharp and taking his time with the fans. Thank you for what you contributed with Maiden Blaze. Seen Blaze live several times after Maiden, and its always 100% . Hard working, down to earth bloke you are. Thank you.

I absolutely LOVE the X Factor. Still one of my favorite Maiden albums. Blaze has an infectious spirit, vital and boisterous. These are qualities a great frontman should have. Bottom line, no one could ever replace Bruce no matter how good the technical facilities are. Blaze gave Maiden something different and I embrace that individuality. Blaze deserves respect for his accomplishments. Who else that loves to criticize can say they sang for Iron Maiden in their lifetime.

I just didn’t know you were supposed to not like Blaze! Virtual XI is still one of my favorite records and has been a great part of shaping my musical identity. I feel Blaze has gotten a great more recognition the last couple of years, and well deserved so. Grinding on after the Maiden days cannot be easy. I apologize for the novelette in advance. Everyone who knows me who has even the slightest interest in music knows that Iron Maiden is my favorite band. Most people are surprised when I tell them that The X Factor is one of my favorite albums. It has helped me through some of the most difficult times in my life. Obviously it was a dark time for Steve, but Blaze voice makes the album as perfect as it is for me as a fan. There is that cliché question, “what song saved your life?” For me I have a legitimate answer Judgement of Heaven. It was exactly what I needed to hear, when I needed to hear it and it was Blaze’s performance on that album and that really sells it atmospherically for me. Loved Virtual XI and the solo career as well. Cheers!

also one of my favorite IM albums. hard for me say which are in what spot , but my top 5 fav albums in no particular order are: X Factor, Seventh son of Seventh Son, Somewhere in Time, Killers, number of the beast. IM is also my favorite band and steve harris is teh sole reason i picked up the bass guitar ( i still play , but no band these days , i got some shitty phone quality vids up on youtube just search Denver Starkey) that album also got me through a dark time. when i was 13 our house burned down in 93 by 94 every one and their mother's uncle's cousin was jumping on the grunge bandwagon. Bruce exited maiden that same time which was a cold slap to all in my circle. then metallica delivered a crushing blow to mine and my friend's hearts when they released that crap called "Load". We needed some good classic metal and well IM + blaze delivered when X-factor dropped. and we were ready when the tour started . we went to our first concert in 93 it was sepultura , but we were watching for IM touring, this was back when you really had to hunt for that tour info too no internet. so in 1996 we found out they'd be playing in Houston, we snagged tickets up as fast as we could and they became the second concert we ever went to. it was at a small crappy little bar called the Millenium that held only 2500 people the guard rail had just a foot and 1/2 space between it and the stage and the stage was too small for IM to use any of their props or even their own PA system. , but the show was incredible high energy and LOUD as all mighty fuck. i swear i have never been to a louder concert since then, not even IM and i've seen them about 15 times since that first one. at the end of the show the band got to the front of the stage and were shaking hands. i managed to shake steve's and blazes hand but could not squeeze my way over fast enough to shake nicko's or janicks or murray's hands. to this day it is still the best concert I've ever seen even if Blaze isn't quite the live frontman Bruce is, he did damn well that night.

One of his greatest achievements has been the humility and class he has shown since the Maiden days. This in total contrast to a certain Mr Dianno. When Blaze joined Maiden everything was stacked against him. Maiden's old school metal was considered old hat and ridiculed by the press who just focussing on grunge. Steve Harris was in a dark place due to going through a divorce. And ultimately anyone would have struggled to fill Bruce Dickinson's shoes. Notwithstanding that his voice was just not suited to Maiden's back catalogue. It was a square peg in a round hole albeit a very talented square peg. Maiden fans were reeling with the departures of Bruce and Adrian and were almost pre conditioned to dislike the X Factor. We were in mourning. And that's why true Maiden fans now revisit that album and gain a true appreciation of it. Sure it's still dark and the production is still muddy but there are some great tracks with The Sign of the Cross being the stunning highlight. Virtual XI was a little weak but redeemed massively by the all time classic The Clansman. He should be very proud.

Dianno = Best Vocalist for Maiden Dickinson = Best Frontman for Maiden Bayley = Best solo career and general class act, plus his Maiden albums were actually pretty good in retrospect
@michaeldean7220
@michaeldean7220 2 жыл бұрын
@@ASeasonInSidewinder sorry can't agree with Dianno. The great thing that Dianno brought was that slightly gruff punk vocal and attitude that helped Maiden stand out from the crowd. However, in the long term he was not the answer and had he stayed their career could have stalled terribly. Too unpredictable, a fondness for chemicals and a dubious work ethic that would not have stood up to the rigours of touring. He was agent of his own downfall and has spent 40 years bitching and trying to live off his Maiden days. Bruce took them to the next level.
@ASeasonInSidewinder

@@michaeldean7220 definitely not defending the man's character. When they booted him they had good reason. But I always go back to Killers as their strongest album overall and his vocals there are impeccable. But I am also just a big fan of more falsetto vocals like Judas Priest and Dianno busted out more of those high notes. Like the Killers riff with the "Ah ah aaaaaah". I also want to acknowledge that I love Dickinson as much if not more than most. So no knock to him as he is also a world class talent. I just prefer Dianno's style on a personal level.

@@ASeasonInSidewinder Maiden fans still appreciate how Paul helped them break big. But as per my previous post I just really appreciate how blaze has dealt with the ensuing years. Paul was the agent of his own misfortune whilst Blaze was a victim of the musical landscape, a poor choice by Steve as his vocals were so different, and ultimately a huge commercial business decision by Rod Smallwood.

you know dianno is on good terms with them these days and has been for a very long time (they buried teh hatchet , back in the late 80's actually) . back when he was ousted though he was a total coke addict, and it made him an ass when he'd get high. he'd get high and start looking for fights at the drop of a dime. i've actually read Dianno's auitobiography where he admited much of this. Time in california prison (5-6 years i think is what he got) cooled his jets off a lot.

Blaze Bayley it's a really cool guy. In my opinion is a tragic hero of Iron Maiden history. He was chosen by IM who knew his limitations. And still instead of giving him better material (like you said) for example from Di Anno era, they were torturing him with Hallowed Be Thy Name and others.. And they guy is not a bad singer. They just wish him to keep up with Bruce, which is recipe for frustration and ultimately failure. I love Maiden but I see the only fault on their side there. Also it's not elegant to bent the truth in official Mick Wall biography about Blaze being fired. The truth is that they knew Bruce is coming back whole '98 tour was still in its final stage.

Glad i didn't listen to the idiots who said blaze is not meant to sing for maiden or the albums he did with maiden suck. Glad i listened through my own ears. Blaze rules,before maiden, in maiden and in solo years. Love everything Blaze done,especially Virtual IV ,great album as is X Factor, the wolfbane albums and his fantastic solo stuff as well. Blaze is 100% metal

This is amazing for a channel of this size. I was shocked when I saw how small your subscriber base is, I would have thought it to be 100x that! Thank you for making these videos, I find them very interesting. Also, I haven't really listened to the Blaze albums much, as it was a time where I quit listening to Maiden for over a decade after NPFTD. I remember hearing Bruce left and thought well they are done, glad I was wrong!

First saw wolfsbane at my local club many years ago. Only about 10 people there. Became a HMS and followed the band straight after. Was lucky to see them at the old London astoria and in their hometown of Tamworth one Christmas.

I've met him a couple times, such a nice guy. We organized an event back in 2009 and he was playing here in Lappeenranta, Finland on the "The Man Who Would Not Die" tour. The place was packed, the feeling was amazing, great Iron Maiden classics as well as his solo material, which is awesome btw. People, do yourself a favor and listen to the acoustic versions of Como Estas Amigos and Judgement of Heaven with Thomas Zwijsen and Anne Bakker. Such great and underrated songs.

Watching Blaze and listening to him, it's obvious that he shares a lot with Bruce: rage and courage. And all that brings me back to the X Factor tour when I saw him at its opening stage in France and some eight or ten months later, at one of the closing stints and noted his incredible evolution inside the band - obviously having fully recovered from his accident. I followed him afterwards and always enjoyed his touring in smaller venues (one if my best memories being a gig at La Loco in Paris).

My Hero! I cannot describe how much I love Blaze. I support him as much as I can. Buy every album, attend to every show possible. He is not my favourite singer, and his music is not my cup of tea somethimes :) Since B&B he went to the direction I didn't understand, and his voice has changed, I prefered when he was singing in lower scale. But still, he is a fantastic human being, I wish him all the best and I will always support him.

You know, one thing I think would have helped Blaze....singing more Paul Di'Anno songs with Maiden. He didn't have the range for a lot of Bruce stuff but he had a decent range for a lot of Paul stuff. Sub out Hallowed for Phantom, Trooper for Killers, 2 Minutes To Midnight for Murders In The Rue Morgue.
@matejukic791

Agree! And thats why I see him as a missed oportunity for something New and different! Stuff Like 2MtM, Clairvoyant and The Evil that Men Do are half a tone and classics Like Hallowed, TNOTB or Hallowed full Octave beyond his range, although he did asked for tuning down half a step but Harris refused.I can understand that.But although Many fans Will dissagree with me but I don't understand keeping most challenging material from Bruce in rotation despite his lack of range! And although I really can understand fans would've missed that legendary songs at first, would've been so much better without them instead destroying them and I am sure Blaze would've been accepted much better by the fans! :)

It would have helped if they tuned down their guitars, which would have been an absolute no brainer.

@@matejukic791 yes, very stupid decision
@matejukic791
@matejukic791 2 жыл бұрын
@@DaveTheFuckingBrave As a fan of both Blaze and Maiden, I really can understand Harris point of view at the time, but that kind of decision means you have to say goodbye to TNOTB album and pretty much everything from POM to SSOTSS albums cause those stuff are mainly half a tone beyond Blazes range..on the other hand, I can confirm many fans would've welcomed back returning of the stuff Like Killers, Phantom of the Opera, Prowler or Remember Tomorrow as a decent replacements for Bruces classic material cause The hard core fact is that material, in the eyes of the Maiden fans belongs to Bruce as a trademark of that legacy and without their hero, there is no classics for them..and despite our preferences, no one cant deny this..on the other hand, this changes would've allowed Blaze to sing Within his range and after couple of good gigs, everything would've been possible.. :)
