6:30 @SurvivormanLesStroud I'm a sucker for punishment... Why stay hunting the pack you've gathered intel on for years when you can blaze a new trail & locate a new pack.

This video is the real thing, scouting at it's finest. That rifle is like mine, a Ruger American and the bolt opens all the time when it's on your back. I am going to change it up this year. Thanks for the ride-along Joel.

I just finished texting @tubbyguyoutdoors about how I need to showcase more of the every day type adventures. A lot of my videos are me seeing Wolves or connecting with them by rifle, but that almost gives people a false sense of reality because Wolf hunting is quite difficult & can be frustrating, especially since most people do not consume Wolf, so you are really just hunting for a trophy/pelt (And the skull, teeth, etc...) I'm glad you appreciate this brother!!! And oh man... This rifle has been great to me, but I can not only hear the bolt slowly opening while its on my back, but can feel it too. Let me know what you are doing to your rifle to negate that from happening, I'm all ears because now I'm curious!!

I will, Jim!!! For you & all my other viewers who love the outdoors - I first started KZfaq just to share my northern experiences with family & friends who live 24 hours drive south of me. And although my channel has grown, I still love capturing my adventures in hopes it teaches someone something about the bush & Mother Nature, then in turn, inspiring them to pick up a fishing rod, go for a hike or try hunting!

Parker is a WOLF HIGHWAY!!!! My main pack roams the Parker area all the way to Suffel. If you look on my channel's main page, navigate to "Community Posts" & I posted a map photo not long ago... You should recognize the map area 😉

When your gloves get wet keep 'em on lol. Playing in the trees would be fun on the cold days, out of the wind. P.S. I miss my heated garage. 28x32 and 10 feet walls. It was sweet! I'll build one someday when I have a spare $50k.

Should have tossed the gloves on the inside of my sled's engine bay, that would have dried them out 😆 Also a great way to heat up sandwiches when you are out in the back country & don't want to start a fire (That way you don't smell like smoke for the Wolves). I can picture that now.... And with 10-foot walls you could even put a snowmobile or small car hoist in there!!!!.... Or a Kayak hoist!

Great video. I finally got out on my snowmachine today just for a ride along with my new neighbor to show him some of the area. Nothing like being in the snow covered backwoods. I agree, a firearm IS a tool for sure. And I'm not sure how many times I've said; I wish I was aboriginal. LOL! Although a native elder once told me that I had native in me. Although family history don't have any but he said; well maybe not this lifetime but in a previous life cause he said he sees native spirit in me. I thought that was pretty cool BUT it still doesn't get me a status card no matter how much native spirit I have in me. LOL!

You must've felt so blessed & grateful to get out today!!! I hope the conditions down there are good - We still don't have as much snow as we normally get but no complaints here! Funny you say that... When I was younger my family & I were on a hike through these historic Canadian shield canyons/trail systems. I remember running ahead to be with my brother & dad but my mom was behind us with her friend. My mom wasn't aware I ran up with my brother & for a brief second thought I went missing, started calling my name, etc... She turned to her right as she heard something run through the bush & both her & her friend saw this little Native boy wearing the same batman shirt as I was, same shorts & same velcro shoes. The Native boy then tucked behind a tree & was gone. She still talks to me about that experience to this day - Maybe that was my guardian angel?

@@PatterningNature yup, could be. I've had a few weird experiences with wildlife and what not in the backcountry and my one buddy I grew up with who's native (was part of that 60's & 70's scoop crap and was adopted into the family across the road from me) and he started learning about different traditions and beliefs later on in life, since he was forced to grow up in my white community, and I mentioned different things that's happened to me and he told me what they meant if he knew. The one thing I hate is owls. Messengers of death I call them. I can't count the number of times I had an owl swoop down at me which in aboriginal beliefs means somebody you know is going to die. I've had it happen with over 5 close family or friends now plus a few more of people i knew but want close to. It's gotten to the point now if any family or friends get really sick, other family members ask if I've had any owl experiences lately. LOL! Haven't had any lately so think we're good. LOL! Like the elder told me; your more native than most of today's natives are. LOL!
@PatterningNature6 ай бұрын
That last line you wrote "You're more Native than most of today's Natives are." - I've worked in far north communities before & its sad to see the lost culture due to mainly alcohol. The community I worked in was dry, yet the people intoxicated by alcohol was rampant. In saying that... I met some amazing Elders & youth that still followed their traditional lifestyle & culture, which in saying.. they've now built their own wild game processing butcher shop up there with large coolers, bandsaws, etc... So maybe not THAT traditional, but the harvest of the animals is as traditional as it gets (Even if they are using beautiful Tikka 308 rifles LOL). The knowledge they have is vast & we have so much to learn, no different than Franklin! I never knew that about Owls... Makes a bit more sense why the ones I've saw were around specific friends passing away from overdose or car accidents - I am going to do some more research on that!@@darrendavidsonoutdoors

I plan to (Eventually)! I need to get 1 more tag filled this year so I can tan one myself. My first Wolf is still at the Taxidermist being full-mounted, standing on all 4 legs, or in some sort of position, we haven't planned it out yet because she is so busy (As all Taxidermists are lol) And the others are being tanned at a different Taxidermist in Winnipeg - I thought it would be more $$$ for tanning but $250.00 ain't half bad for a beauty Wolf rug.

I am sure it is good just to be out and about. Looking forward to seeing you find a set a get a bait going. Smooth trails to ya!
@PatterningNature6 ай бұрын
Amen brother - I have about 8 boxes of bait that I have to get set out here this next week. I have to cut some trail & get a nice bait sight dialled in. I've decided NOT to bait along this trail, but bait just off the trail, so I can utilize the trail itself & the loop. I may cut trail on both sides so I can access the bait sight from either side of the trail, as it loops around shown in the video. I'm pumped... Just got back from Franklin's & back to work tomorrow so all this work will have to wait until next week!

Another awesome video brother . That’s what I love about these vids the shared knowledge. The wonderful thing about that knowledge is it an accumulation of facts and findings from many sources parents aunts uncles , mentors and friends then those facts and and observations get tried and applied and fine tuned and passed on in an ongoing ever growing pool of information and knowledge to benefit those that car to learn about their natural environment and conservation efforts and management. Keep sharing that knowledge my friend and thank you
@PatterningNature6 ай бұрын
You hit the nail on the head brother - This is not only my experience & knowledge, its information read from forums, fellow KZfaqrs, Franklin & of course my own unique point of view/observations. Last night I was watching that fellow who actually has a handful of tame Wolves (He posts lots of shorts of him kissing the Wolves, etc) & he was stating that Wolves do not bark, but that it's only been learned from domesticated canines. I assume this is his own point of view & observation because the Wolves at Franklins & the pack I follow bark, yip, howl, whine & talk to one another in all sorts of different ways. To add, both packs have never seen a domesticated dog in their life (But thats an assumption). Just goes to show that no matter how much time you spend with wildlife, your experience CAN be the same, OR... be so different than someone else's experience!

@@PatterningNature Our terrain we have here makes it difficult to hunt Wolves as there is so much cover for them. Plus with all the politics surrounding Wolf hunting it’s illegal for me to pick up a road kill and bait them unless I have a trapping licence which I don’t have…..yet……but I have been lucky and managed to connect on 4 Wolves. 🎯🎯🎯🎯
@PatterningNature6 ай бұрын
Yeah, B.C. seems to be full of the "tree hugger" types, which there is nothing wrong with caring for the environment! But I wish that they would have more conversations surrounding conservation & managing Wolves, as well as Ungulates, because with one you cannot have the other & vice versa... I hope all the best for you on getting your trapper's licence - I have to get mine as well... Its around $400 here in Ontario & its done over 32 hours of classroom time & eight practical hours in the field, which is give or take... A full weekend, or two weekends dependant on the Instructors schedule, etc...@@brianqually2212

Can you snare or are you hunting on someone's line?
@PatterningNature6 ай бұрын
I could snare if I went for my Ontario Trapper's licence - But even then... I would be qualified to trap, but could not trap unless I had my own trapline, or someone registered me on their trapline (Which rarely occurs). The main plan is to get my trappers licence, then trap on my 100 acres of bush - Except I'm torn between trapping Wolves, or just hunting them over a bait because I enjoy it so much (Which I know sounds a bit silly lol). Any location I hunt Wolves, I could easily set up snares & get at least 3 over a week but thats just an assumption based off the trails I often see. My gut tells me its too easy to trap, but I also don't want to say that too loud as there are some phenomenal trappers on KZfaq that put in a lot of hard work to snare Wolves & I know how difficult it can be!!
