chinatown
get in my backseat honey pie
and i’ll wear your sadness like it’s mine
because it’s just good to have what’s been missing
yeah it’s bad when it’s good to always be missing
but a girl like you
could rip me out of my head
black tears on your cheek
i want them in my bed
i’ll take you out of the city
honey right into the shadow
‘cause i wanna find tomorrow
yeah i wanna find tomorrow
with a girl like you
my chinatown baby
sittin’ on your front porch
crying out the crazy
i’ll take you out of the city
honey right into the shadow
‘cause i wanna find tomorrow
yeah i wanna find tomorrow with you baby
gimme gimme gimme that big red light
and take the sadness out of saturday night
because it’s so good
to have what’s been missing
we were bad to be bad
to always be missing
but a girl like you
could rip me out of my head
black tears on your cheek
i want them in my bed
i’ll take you out of the city
honey right into the shadow
‘cause i wanna find tomorrow
yeah i wanna find tomorrow
with a girl like you
my chinatown baby
sittin’ on your front porch
crying out the crazy
i’ll take you out of the city
honey right into the shadow
cause i wanna find tomorrow
yeah i wanna find tomorrow with you baby
i wanna run
i wanna chase every feeling
i wanna run

How do I say this without sounding completely batty... you know THOSE songs? Those feel it in your gut, lump in your throat, tears of uncertain loss, happiness, and nostalgia all wrapped into one songs? Those songs that can transport you to a feeling you haven’t felt in years? Those songs are precious, because you only come across so many in your lifetime. I have a few... but chinatown. chinatown was it for me. I haven’t felt that way about a song in years. As a new fan, I thank you for bringing that feeling back to me.

Exactly right??? You took the words right out my mouth. I don't know if it's because of the Bruce springsteen vibe or something else, this song makes me nostalgic for the time and place you've never seen, been to or heard of. Haven't felt like this in years

Chinatown is a song that you hit replay before it's halfway done because it's so fucking great that you have to listen to it from the start to make sure that your ears weren't fooling you... A song that you play four times in a row, and immediately try to find everything that Jack Antonoff has ever written... and you wonder, "where the hell has this guy been my whole life?"

Seen a lot of videos of Bruce with younger artists, bands, singers..He never tries to take the spotlight, he never interrupts and he never has an ego. I have yet to see anyone of Bruce's stature sit and talk with random musicians, go out of his way to be in their videos, gives humble advice and shows nothing but respect. That's why he really is the Boss.

I like how the rest of the band is smiling at hearing Bruce sing and thus giving this song more character. What I especially like more, is that Bruce sees them smiling at him, but still focuses on the lyrics of the song and sings it as if he wrote it, from the heart, and tries to give it every ounce of meaning. PS. I also like that the lead singer is dressed like Bruce would have in the early 80s.

I chose this video because I wanted to see Bleachers live. I didn't pay much attention to the title, just assuming they were doing a Springsteen song. And I sat there (yes, "sat", for once, as the band usually has me up on my octogenarian-but-still-nimble feet) sat there captured by the song immediately and then mesmerised by the... older member of the band (!!). I couldn't take my eyes off him and then, bang! I realised who he was : my musical Boss from way back whom I'd somehow lost sight of over the years. Oh! a Boss who has aged beautifully and sits there so modestly, just happy to be singing a great song with guys he obviously loves. And the tears ran down my cheeks.

They were supposed to be from Bergenfield, NJ 07641, but due to inflation, corruption, and liberal liars...They're possibly from New Milfred, and Bergenfield has now changed their corruption zip code, due to, too many assians in the town, without an understanding of why...Possibly for world peace or WWIII, but lying, constantly, and allowing murders and bribes to go on...New Jersey, capitol of corruption esp. if those in sopranos successfully faked their death like Andy Kaufman, towards a military of some kind...Tell someone who cares, esp. in Bergenfield, where they take it to the grave, their bribes, lies, and scandals'....How dem Gas prices???

Perfect example of the music elevating the lyrics. Perhaps not the most poignant or complex lyrics Jack has ever written, but in combination with the music, some lines just completely knock you for six: "cause I wanna find tomorrow" "sitting on the front stoop/crying out the crazy", "please take the sadness out of saturday night", "I wanna run"...

this is so unreal and good in just the best kind of way ever possible. the song already feels timeless in itself but this feature is just everything and every time i listen to chinatown i am shocked when i hear bruce's voice come in, it just fits so well. got chills from this live version. you two are like a match made in heaven. damn, i'm never gonna be over this.

The song digs deep into your soul as it takes off, but when the boss kicks in to dig even deeper into the guts of the song, you all of a sudden see it all come true, shining in glory and grace,, an insight into wisdom. If one seeks to find wisdom in a song, then this would be that song... A song of continuity, togetherness, and love...

It sounds miles better with Bruce through out the song, than the original recording, it has tattoo lyrics written all over this song, “because a girl like you can rip me out of my head” sends me goosebumps all over, like he’s in Brian fallons head with lyrics like that, there must be something special about New Jersey water when it comes to writing and producing artists
