Good video! Although its been 10 years since I've seen a new diesel engine with a waste gate on it from the factory. They have all gone over to VGT eliminating the waste gate completely. .

I wish you guys would get a little more scientific in these tests. Like putting pressure gauges on the boost controller lines, both inlet and outlet; so we could see how it controls/modifies the boost going into the wastegate.

i got 12psi running of stock turbo for gu td42 ute. i think it runs 10psi without bleed valve. its not much to notice but gives a bit more go driving up hills and on the tracks
@SheepInACart
@SheepInACart 7 жыл бұрын
The TD42 found in Nissan patrol (aka safari) is a mechanically injected engine in which the the amount of fuel injected per cycle is based on only throttle position. This is cool because aside from the glow plugs needed to cold start the motor it doesn't need any electronics (only the ti version even had any). On the other hand when you combine this with the fact the TD42 (like most factory diesels) is a lean burn engine (more air than required to burn the fuel charge) it means without additional adjustment or modification increasing boost pressures will not have a positive effect on power output, instead more power can be made at the same boost with just a fuel pump adjustment, just at the expense of higher exhaust gas temperatures and more smoke when the throttle pedal is fully depressed before full boost is reached.
@outlawdingo3020
@outlawdingo3020 7 жыл бұрын
a cold atart is whem you dont glow it. the glow plugs just heat up a bit of diesel in the block. people think it doesnt do much but if you cold start (colder areas like where i live) it does a lot of damage to the motor and also eats up alot of oil. whitr smoke is oil burning and black smoke is it running to rich. if you go more boost you need more fuel so you turn the injector pump up a little. go to much power youll be upgrading intake and exhaust. my gu just has a stock turbo on 12psi with a 3" straight through that dumps behind the cab. that does the job for now

@LilleyAdam 7 жыл бұрын
Turning up boost pressure will always increase the energy yield from fuel. This is why modern engines have higher compression ratios. Same/same. Also increasing the amount of available air to burn the fuel increases the speed of the burn, which in turn raises the power slightly. So turning up boost pressure on a diesel will have a positive effect without adjusting the fuel

This is only going to be as good as the spring inside the wastegate. OEM designs are like this so that it will not over Boost so even when bleeding off it may only gain a few psi but still should see some type of a gain. I would recommend external waste gate and electronic boost solenoid for more power.

i made my own bleed valve 😂 i hooked up a T on the wastegate pipe and the solenoid valve and the air was escaping out from the 3ed side of the T and the boost was crazy so i hooked up a piece of hose to it and i started to adjust it by a zip tie one that hose and it worked 😂

I would also have liked to know how a bleed valve works internally. Like what is the mechanism inside that manual boost controller?
@noanoxan
@noanoxan 7 жыл бұрын
Mike LeBlanc it's just a screw that blocks the airflow between the inlet and outlet. You loosen the screw to let more air flow, or run it down to block air flow. Blocking airflow increases boost, and loosening it decreases boost.
@noanoxan
@noanoxan 7 жыл бұрын
Or wait..no that's backward. Loosen the screw to bleed off air and keep the wastegate open, and tighten it to close the wastegate. Either way, it's still a T with a screw. Look up homemade bleed valves on KZfaq for more info

Hi. I have a 2013 Peugeot 308 with 115HP rolling with 23 psi of boost. A bleed valve does not work in my car because boost is controlled electronically. (I tried using a bleed valve already) I would like to know if there's another way to increase boost without a reflash of the ECU. Thanks.

Will you do a multi valve bleeder ? I need to decrees the boost in 1st and 2nd then nail the waist gate shut for a quicker top end. The turbo can handle it. Max boost has not yet been achieved.

Boost should be controlled electronically with some type of PWM means. Manual controllers are for cheap people who unexplainably like putting in new engines all the time, despite being cheap people.

Yeah I know, I just wanted to know if there was some way to trick the N75.. Maybe if you put it in between the turbo and the N75?
@cornholio1988
@cornholio1988 7 жыл бұрын
You could put it between N75 and turbo to get a higher boost pressure, but the ECU would sense overpressure and would throw fault codes. Even if it didn´t you would still have to get it tuned, so you are not running lean

That is where the restrictor plays a role and it is so minimal that will not matter on a MAF or even less than nothing on speed density setups. I run one on 1.8t and it's awesome.

no it wouldnt because the valve is venting air that wouldnt be going into the engine the engine anyway it just goes straight to the actuator.

Yeah, the small amount of lost air isn't going to make boost build slower. The fact that the video shows the wastegate partially opening under less than target boost, that will though.
