I’m glad you finally got to this one. ❤❤❤❤ I love this blend. I think cavendish and Latakia go so well together. The cavendish gives the smoke such a smooth and pillowy texture. A few similar blends in my opinion are Bengal Slices and Accountants Mixture.

👍👍👍 I agree moisture is perfect, I liked the blend it is smooth. Mine had some very course pieces in it which made it hard to pack the pipe and keep it lit. I switched to a pipe with a larger bowl and that helped a bit. I feel like I got the scrapings from the bottom of the jar. The flavor was good though and I would buy it again.

Northwoods and Boswell's Best are must haves for pipe smokers. BB has that baked brownie smell and smokes so smooth with a hint of cocoa flavor. I definitely agree with you on the Orientals--the flavor reminds me a bit of some Balkans I've had in the past. I'm liking that Ser Jacopo, too!

👍👍👍👍👍WOW! This is the first time that I have smoked Northwoods and I have to agree it is great. Nice tin note, well behaved velvety smooth smoke with the right amount of sweetness with just a hint of tang. No tongue bite with this one for me and that is saying something. Very Very Nice.

I also love oriental blends and struggled to pick up any in Northwoods. I do like this I've smoked it before and keep it in stock . pipe on brothers!

I love this blend. To me, it's a campfire in the middle of a pine forrest with a few cedar trees mixed in. That was my first impression and it still is. Maybe my favorite....

Some English blends are over bearing with Latakia not northwoods it’s wonderful! You get the best of both worlds. Fells like at a Campfire with a bunch of Marine Buddies enjoying the atmosphere and NorthWoods is worth the money and time . Great video Chris my first time trying this blend . Glad I came here . 💨 💨 💨 💨 💨 Boswell Northwoods is definitely in my top 5 English blends!! The light sweet back note is complimentary to the smokiness of Northwoods. Bonus also is there is no need to cellar this blend, as close to perfection as you can get, right out of the gate!! Boswell blends are a must try for both new smokers and experienced pipers. Boswell Countryside is a close second for me for another outstanding English blend!!

👍👍👍👍👍. I love Northwoods and I love your videos! Thank you for all you have done for the piping community! One thing you may add to your Blend Club videos is advice on pipe selection and packing for the various tobaccos you review. Northwoods in particular can be a very course cut. I find that switching to a larger wider bowl or even a gourd calabash with a Meerschaum bowl really helps to bring out the flavor of this blend and keep it burning. In a smaller narrower bowl it can fall flat flavor wise and be difficult to keep an ember going in. Plum Pudding is similar in that respect. I know all this can be very subjective, but it may provide a little help for those newer to the community to get the maximum benefit from the various cuts of tobacco.

For me this is a solid 4 star blend based as much on the uniqueness it offers as much as the smoking experience it has. I think the description given by Muttonchop sums it up to perfection. I never got to try Frog Morton Cellar but I imagine Northwoods with a tad more Oriental would be sublime. I read somewhere that Boswell doesn't especially reccomend cellaring their blends but I think I might try jarring up a few ounces of this one just to see since so many people rave about aged Frog Morton.

😁😁😁 It was good, and I’ll definitely smoke it again. One note I get from Northwoods sometimes is a bit of soapiness. I do like the combination of a bit of smokiness with a bit of sweetness. Wish I could give it 5 smiles, but I think Hunter’s Choice is my favorite Boswell’s blend. Great video and happy piping!

💥💥💥💥 Great English blend. Nice fruity aroma that translates well into its room note. Tobacco a touch on the dry side, but not terribly so. Lights up nice and maintains a steady burn. Just the thing for a nice night in front of the fire listening to LOTR radio shows.

😻😻😻😻 A dark, tangy,barbeque, Latikia,campfire taste..Its has a complex English taste profile IMO.Reminds me of Kramers Father Dempsey.Some cellering takes away any rough edges.

💨💨I wanted so bad to enjoy this immensely due to my love for latakia...bag note was GREAT....the smoke was just a bit bland for me. That being said....my tobacco was pretty dry and crumbling, despite attempts to rehydrate....however, this didn't improve my experience with it. Honestly, it's the first sample that I didn't finish completely. Thanks for the videos Chris! Happy piping all.

The cavendish and Latakia are well paired with the right amount of Virginia and it has an excellent smoky BBQ flavor that really satisfies. I will be making sure to have this on hand as a go to smoke. Would love to use northwoods as a base for adding in some perique to give it a kick- smoked with and without 9mm filter, always smooth and satisfying.

✴✴✴✴✴The best blend of all my tobaks. Won a sample in a GAW, and from the first bowl I was hooked. It is the gentle surprising sweetness paired with the classic English flavors that really sets it apart for me. It is one that I would suggest to someone that has never tried an English. Had to pay a lot to get it, here in the EU, but for me it was worth the price of tax/import fees.

😊😊😊 to me it’s mild and will do good with coffee in the morning. I’m new to pipes maybe my opinion is wrong but I understand cigars and I believe there’s similarity in the plants when it comes to the leafs so in cigars the top leafs get more sun they become full body and has a lot of flavor and also these are more pricey than bottom leaf with this blend I fell it’s only has bottom leaf because there’s no high nicotine in it.

Love Northwoods. I think it’s a bit of an aromatic English. Curious what other think. I keep a few ozs on hand as I am a PA resident

One of the best english blends out there and plus it's available, which is a bonus. Quiet nights is number 1 in my opinion but this is a close second or third.

🎃🎃🎃🎃 Okay. I tried this at the end of September and thought eh. I was doing 100% aromatics at that time. I totally forgot about it until I watched this review. Over the past few weeks I’ve been smoking more English blends as the weather cools. Now I feel it’s fantastic. I’m tasting lots of sweetness. Very cool. I’m not tasting the sour yet but cant wait to try more. Very smooth.

💨💨💨💨💨 This is one of only a few English blends that I've had, and it's spoiled my palette for nearly all but a few others. Very relaxing and smoky smooth with enough sweetness to satisfy my sweet tooth. I never had the privilege of trying Frog Morton's Cellar, but at least I have an idea of what it was like.

I think it would be really helpful to people to see an updated version of your favorite blends from each type, like your Journey to Discovery from six years ago or Favorite Tobacco Blends from five years ago. In other words, how does Northwoods, which you obviously like, compare to Maltese Falcon, Plum Pudding, White Knight, etc., which you’d praised in the past. It’s not so much that people should follow your preferences, as I realize we all perceive flavor differently. It was the comparison of the things you liked to one another that was really helpful. I suppose it helps to put a four or five emoji ranking into context. Not suggesting your videos are lacking, I love what you do here, but revisiting this is something you can do again (or every few years) that will always seem fresh! All the best, David

💪💪💪💪 Bag note sweet cavendish, slight Latakia, topping could be vanilla vary faint. I would call it more of a coarse ribbon cut not fine. My bag was a bit dry I stored it in a sealed mason jar for 2 months. Extremely mild blend. I was not impressed with the first half of the bowl, all I tasted was the BC and The Latakia . At the halfway point it became much better as the flavors began coming out and blending . Sweet very lite blend some vanilla. I would defiantly consider this a lite English blend. Very lite nic hit. Required a few relights. This could be an all day smoke but I find it to be more on the lite side. The Latakia is very lite. One note with 6 months of age the Latakia becomes more pronounced. It is a very simple lite blend not many flavors but extremely smooth. Great for people that are just moving from aromatics to English. It very similar to magnum but a bit less strong and less sweet. Pipe Used: meerschaum apple and many briars Age When Smoked: 3 months old and older.

🦫🦫🦫🦫🦫 I have to agree it is also one of the best blends I have ever smoked. I can smoke this blend Year round and I found that to be rare. I also have found out that it’s a crowd pleaser as well. I truly hope I can get this blend for years to come. It really is my favorite blend.

I believe it's not topped but I think they either case or used cased tobaccos, if that's the Virginia or the Cavandish because there is a sweetness and almost a vanilla quality as well. The Latakia used seems to have gone thru a processing too, I wonder if they do a steaming of the bulk Latakia they use to mellow it out more. It was the first English I enjoyed as it was way more approachable than something like plumb pudding which I hated when I was early in my piping journey. Great crossover and entry into English blends. 🎃🎃🎃

Hi there. I was surprised by the ending... mixing it up from “Happy Piping” 🙃🙂

I been looking into the Boswell tobacco really just to expand a little. Ever since I picked up a pipe I have been hooked on Schwabs Paul’s Stuff. It has a very smooth smoke with that same sweet undertone and almost a sour taste on the backend.

😹😹😹😹😹 - My thoughts echo yours, Muttnchop. This is my favorite tobacco and I smoke it almost every day.

Tried it the other day didn’t get much of a tasting from my 1st bowl. Will have to try another bowl soon to see what I get out of it . Didn’t taste the sweetness first time. 🤠🤠
