Thanks Much for instructions!. I did cut the key the turns the blend door 1/4"inch which made it easier to reinstall. The job took one hour to complete removing the console and air vent below the blend actuator. I did have all the tools you mentioned so that too was a big help. I saved a ton of money like did...thanks again.

What is the flap your speaking of ? The stem is in a different position on the new part .
@PocoPortillo2 жыл бұрын
@@davegreenwood2174 the blend door(flap) that opens and closes from heat to cold. If you have the module out the female slot the key fits turns one way othe other. I just didn't want to struggle with the tight fit getting the module back in place.

Best video i've found on this problem! I bought the first incorrect actuator as you did , except from napa. So then I removed the old one for them to reference . The new one was defective from the factory. As was the next new one I returned it for. On my 4th trip to Napa I stopped by Advance and picked one up. Same brand, different box , worked correctly. If your doing this, test that actuator BEFORE you buckle things up!

Thanks for vid, easy to follow. I would make a note about the actuator post not lining up and having to replace it. Out of the box my Dorman actuator post looked just like yours and I thought I might have to return it. I realized though, like you, my blend door was stuck in the cool position. The actuator arrived in the warm position. I turned the dash dial to warm, plugged in the new actuator and spun the dial to cool. The post slowly spins to the correct cool position and I was able to install. I can't be certain this is the same in everyone's case but it worked for me and maybe it will save future installers the aggravation of returning parts. Good luck.

I have this problem in the rear but I watched this to familiarizes myself with what might be similar. You thought of everything as you made this great video. Probably the best instructional video I've seen on you tube. Great job and thanks for sharing your experience. Folks like you are the reason I watch youtube.

I loved watching your video I’m a single mom and I’m gonna try this tomorrow I’ve had a exact same problem you do and I’m hoping I can get this to work! I have to say your video is very own detail about things that I need to know since I don’t know what I’m doing but I most certainly can’t afford the $500 I was told it would cost me with a mechanic I will post a update tomorrow evening

Thanks for the video. I was able to get this done for a guy in 2 hours exactly. I used a cordless impact on all the bolts to speed up the process. Then I used a 4-5 inch non ratcheting 8mm wrench. Getting the 3 actuator screws out and all back in was 1.5hrs of the 2. I got all 3 in but if you’re a big guy it’s not happening

If you plug in the electrical connector to the new actuator before installing, then turn the ignition switch to the on position, you can set the actuator post position by turning the dashboard cold hot switch position.

After doing this it will come out the vents properly now,but if I turn to only defrost hardly any air comes out of the vents up on dash. Where I had opposite problem before as it only came out on dash. Any ideas.
@jerryjohnson79523 жыл бұрын
I understood exactly what you were saying and after your video, it seems to be straight forward. But, I'm wondering how you managed to crawl under the dash like that. By feel I finally removed the two lowers screws and the electrical plug. And then, by feel again, I tried to put a 8mm socket (1/4" drive) onto the top screw. I'm still working on that one. In one way it's not a hard job, just hard to get at and at my age crawling under the dash is a task in of itself. I think I'll call me grandson for the one screw.

Just curious, when you demonstrate at the beginning, turning heat dial to full heat, i noticed your "A/C" button light is on, Why would it be on? I have the 2005 explorer and no problem,so far, but usually when i turn cooler on i press the A/ C button, similar to your year/ model, and cold air is coming out after i press it on.

The two different shafts are for a mid year design change, which Ford is famour for. There'e an early and a late model for the '02 Explorers and I believe the build date is March 3, 2002.

i did take longer than you did but that was because i was frustrated on getting the actuator out. Now i was able to get the new one in and plug in the electronic connector all inside of an hour (i was pretty proud of myself that morning). Now i'm wondering if i put the actuator in incorrectly (common sense tells me that because of how the post is designed there was only way it could go in. i'm in doubt now because now my a/c doesn't work now and it worked just fine a few days ago and now all i'm getting is hot air no matter if i turn the dial to A/C or Heat. i looked at your video so i know you haven't had this problem. i don't want to put my console back together just to dismantle her again.
@chophosho59353 жыл бұрын
Hey sorry for replying so late. The groves on the actuator is such that there is only one way to put it in. If you put it in the the wrong orientation in wont push through. Hope you were able to pull it off.

@Jerry-me1fy3 жыл бұрын
Mine does the same thing. I took my vehicle to a mechanic and they said there is 4 blend door actuator's and they have to spend five hours trying to figure out which one went out and 10 more hours fixing it sounds like bs

I have a 2002 Sport Track. This video as well as many others on simular Ford models does me no good. Although many of the videos I've watched usually have the blend door actuator in the same location ( on the base board right of the steering column) and advise the removal of the center console for replacement. Mine is not in that location. And how do I know. I removed the center console! Yeah bummer! My mechanic said it was there as well as my shop manual I bought from Ford Administrative Department in Dearborn, Mi. At least that's where it claimed to have come from. Mine is located above the glove box. And it seems as if is an easy fix. But it is not! The front two 7mm are easy to access but the one in the back is very difficult. It appears it requires a special tool, little dexterous hands, or removal of the whole dashboard. So for those of you that may have a model slightly different, LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP!!! And this includes if you are considering having it repaired y a mechanic. If you don't labor charges can be added based upon bad information.
