Blender 4.0 features might destroy Maya and cinema 4d?

Blender 4.0 surely has the potential to be a massive gamechanger, also Blender vs Maya shouldn't be a debate. this is a very well-detailed script on how far blender has come. It's a great story but aside from that, incoming 3d artists need to have certain clarification so they can work with confidence. work your way to the top. that's all that matters. always choose skillsets over software. but blender vs cinema 4d? we can debate on that

You nailed it! Great advice and detailed insights. And I'm a Blender advocate. This is a serious critique of Blender and Blender Foundation will be well served to take notes. Blender is improving dramatically, so achieving parity with commercial competitors is not inconceivable. And the final points about learning Blender as your platform for jumping to specialized commercial tools is spot on. Thanks for the unvarnished analysis.

i switched from max to blender in the last couple of years. i was a 20 plus year max user and i work in games in a major studio. and i can tell you that more and more artists are using blender for asset creation in their pipelines. i think some of the addons and the interface improvements are drawing people in. addons like meshmachine decal machine hard ops boxcutter the sculpt improvements fluent and fluent materializer cad tools...lots of free addons the zen uv and pack master its now accepting udims....things are changing. my main reason is that the max interface seems so stale to me. it hasnt improved in a major way in a long long time. same for maya. when blender overhauled its interface it really made people take a look again...

The quality is the same when it comes to games compared to 3ds trash or Maya. God bless for Blender

I agree with you, I am also predominantly a max user for more than 20 years. Have worked on many known IPs and award winning projects. I use Blender too. There are a few things that I like and max and maya are not as good as Blender. Sculpting is the top feature of Blender imo. I use it a lot. Blender's bad FBX implementation is a serious pain in the ass though. Almost everything gets a "QA" pass from Maya and Max for finishing. Make sure everything is proper. No double faces, intersecting edges, improper geometry shit. Blender does that a lot.

@@keelfly I don't quite understand what the issues are, specifically in that case. You mentioned that you worked on projects, you like sculpting and then finishing off the sentense, stating you do not particularly fancy Blenders FBX. You continue by suggesting to check double-sided faces, amongst other things, which I don't think is an issue with the FBX format as much as it is a user error when modelling. Would you be able to explain what the issues with FBX are more specifically? I am asking since I have personally not experienced any of the aforementioned issues of yours during my time with Blender and a large variety of game engines.

"...instead of making excuses why you can't find a job, you know what? Create one." And that is exactly what Blender is about. I keep seeing people want to compare software but, there is a ton of work to be done that doesn't have to come from a major studio. Blender is perfect for a freelancer or, small independent company. Employment is changing and the stability of a job with any single company is really iffy. You can be a boutique and write your own ticket instead of standing with your hat in your hand hoping a big company picks you. Need to scale up? There's a problem with everything nodes that I am starting to see with GeoNodes right now, and that is, not all artist are able to understand how node works, and I'm also one of those who is having a hard time using it compare to C4D mograph tools, while it's better than C4D if you wanna do more complicated procedural task, it's not user friendly to an artist who are not good at math, understanding vectors, and the lack of beginner friendly tutorials (not to mention a lot are just copy and paste tutorials) to understand everything those nodes is also a problem that im starting to have. And another problem I start to also get is even the community is 4-5times bigger than any major software, it's still hard to get some help from peoples as the professional level are still like 3-5% of the whole community, so that is the whole 95% are more likely to be just like me who can model, texture and animate BUT cannot use the more complicated node system, so finding the right person to help you out for such task is like finding a needle at haystack at this point... I think Blender needs to balance those system for ease of use so people who arent willing or having a hard time to understand a node based system get some alternative way of doing task much easier like go with the good old sliders and modifiers to make a quicker way of making something.

Maybe you are doing most 3d animation or vfx stuff. In this field Blender is really good I agree cos I'm learning Blender to do sculpting and character animation. However, if you consider the niche for each software, Blender is still having a long way to go and it doesn't necessarily have to 'destroy' other ones. I'm from C4D and I have to tell you, for motion graphics like manipulating massive objects, C4D is still much much better than Blender due to the non destructive workflow and flexibility also the intuitive interface and logic. Every tool has a niche and I'd love to see Blender is getting better as a toolset for small studios also can consolidate it's 3d and 2d animation workflow as its top feature
@yasunakaikumi

@@yasunakaikumi @Yasunaka Ikumi I understand what you are saying. Maybe I explained not clear enough. Firstly in C4D, Mograph is mostly made with effectors with fields together rather than modifier. It's a totally different workflow. Secondly I'm still feel it's easier and faster to build mograph set up in C4D. Yes in Blender you can use geometry nodes. But you have to admit it's not as intuitive as C4D's cloner and effectors. Also in the real world project, not everything needs a complex set up. easy workflow for one person and a team is essential too. Normally the reason for a software being used by more people is not it can make some complex things other ones can't, it's the shorter learning curve and more intuitive workflow. I'm not saying Blender is bad, I'm just saying C4D is still better in this area. You don't have to puke on it😊

Please do not talk about things you do not know or understand. FBX is very advanced, it releases a new version with tons of updates and fixes almost every year, and is an industry standard used by all major VFX and Game and 3D applications. Blender has a really bad history with FBX, initially they didn't want to integrate it, even created false reasons why they didn't want to integrate it.(The founder of Blender himself did.) Blender has a very basic, outdated and mediocre even, implementation of FBX and that is the fault of Blender. Blender is in no position to define industry standards. It will either adopt them or stay on the sidelines like a sad puppy forever.

The reason why FBX is not well supported in Blender because it's made by Autodesk the license they have doesn't play well with the open-source licenses and They change the API every year without actually changing anything in FBX and most of the time devs have to reverse engineer to get fbx working outside Autodesk's DDCs. @@xanzuls You are talking nonsense. If there was a problem with the license then it should not be integrated at all, because the license "issue" exists whether you integrate it properly, or like shit that Blender has. Every other decent 3D software that wants the best I/O for their users takes advantage of the updates. Blender and some others do not. And that makes them second rate software, no matter the marketing hullabaloo around them. I definitely have a much better idea than you whether FBX is advanced or not.
