Unfortunately, the project files are unavailable. For whatever reason, it seems that Dropbox deleted all of my files and, due to recent hard-drive problems, they're unrecoverable. I will make sure that this problem will not repeat and I will consider the possibility to manually recreate some of them. I hope you understand; thank you.
Music: Lightless Dawn ⓒ - Kevin MacLeod
In this video, I will show you how to create a smoke simulation with two colliding smoke plumes that you see in the thumbnail and the beginning of this video.
Some time ago, I made a video with a series of different smoke simulation tests in Blender. The 16th test from that video, is what we'll be recreating in this video.
Here is a link to the video with all the tests: • 20 Blender Smoke Simul...
Thank you for watching, and keep blendering!

Thank you! I'm glad I could help. I believe I used 128 samples for the final render. (twice the amount of the .blend file)

Hi Iago, thanks for the reply. I'll try using 128 to see what comes out. I'm very impressed with the look you were able to achieve with such a low sample count. Excellent simulation. Thank you again.

Hallo, Iago Mota! You created great tutorial! Is it possible to final render keep only central part ( green ring) of smoke, and would you explain how to make it?
@IagoMotaVFX
@IagoMotaVFX 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is. At 3:10, in the node setup, all you need to do is connect the Emission shader directly to the volume of the Material Output node. And then, you can delete the Add Shaders, Volume Scatter, and the Volume Absorption node.

Hey bro how can i get emission smoke without having 2 smole sources collide like you do...i tried to simply add an emission shader to my smoke node setup but it doesnt look emissive.
@BurnEdOutOne
@BurnEdOutOne 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how to get the shader to attach to the emitter. My smoke keeps coming out grey from both ends even though I copied the shader settings. EDIT: Then I tried playing with the domain resolution, and the smoke stopped showing up entirely, never to return. This tutorial may not work anymore, but if anyone has any ideas, lmk.

Just a quick comment on this. I tried to bake using OpenVDB and it doesn't work. It doesn't seem to read the emitter colour info. Make sure to bake with point cache. 3 hours that I won't get back :(
@IagoMotaVFX
@IagoMotaVFX 5 жыл бұрын
Ouch. Yeah, blender's implementation of OpenVDB isn't really fantastic. Other than colors, I've experienced problems with heat and velocity (if I remember correctly) while using it.

Really cool effect! The nodetree isnt too complicated either. Did you build on the default smoke shader or is it from the ground up? Also by chance do you render with gpu? I'm having issues rendering smoke on AMD in cycles.
@IagoMotaVFX
@IagoMotaVFX 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! In this case, I built the shader from scratch, but I usually start with the default smoke shader. I rendered this scene with the GPU, but I have a Nvidia GPU, so I don't think i'm experiencing the same problems.

@Jeremy I've been looking into their cycles update roll out and they included a working cycles OpenCL update, it's in their builders build binary : blender-2.78-81d7ff8-win64. I've tried it out and works well for experimenting with particles and no really bug issues.

This usually happens to me when I start playing the animation from frame 0 (zero). Make sure you're at frame 1 (one) and start playing the animation from there to be able to see the simulation.

+Iago Mota using this technique is it possible to make the left&right smoke bright colors?
@IagoMotaVFX

Yes, it is.

The things i try result in loss of detail for the black smoke side. The "white" and grey mix brightly and cleanly. Trying to make the black smoke bright just blows out the colors(no subtlety) and darks just get crushed. I think i'll try using alpha somehow to map colors. In this image the blue on the LEFT has lack of detail, whereas the bright blue on the right has a lot of color range from dark to bluewhite. Making a light directed at the dark doesn't change the problem. imgur.com/a/0C2nf

I tried following this, however the circle I created was just a wire(don't know if this is a problem) and when I played it I didn't see anything.
@IagoMotaVFX
@IagoMotaVFX 7 жыл бұрын
Maybe Blender didn't create a face on that circle. You can go to the Edit Mode, select all the vertices, and press "F" to make a face. It should work when you get back to Object mode. I hope that helps.

@IagoMotaVFX
@IagoMotaVFX 7 жыл бұрын
That is very strange. Have you tried rendering using the CPU? Maybe Blender isn't rendering the smoke, because it's too much for the GPU to handle.

what if i dont use colored smoke, i would still be able to control the central color through the ramp.. right?
@IagoMotaVFX
@IagoMotaVFX 7 жыл бұрын
Just make sure one emitter emits white smoke, and the other emits black smoke (in the simulation). After the simulation is complete, you can go to the Node Editor and give it the colors you prefer. In the Node Editor (shading process), the colors don't need to be different.
@MohitKarangiya
@MohitKarangiya 7 жыл бұрын
I meant to say that, what if i use the default colors for the smoke. The region where the both clouds of smoke collide, can I change and manipulate its color as well, without assigning two different colors to the smokes?
@IagoMotaVFX
@IagoMotaVFX 7 жыл бұрын
You mean at 2:51, where I gave the emitters different colors of smoke? Giving them different colors is the key to getting the effect of a different color of smoke in the middle. This is due to the fact that, in the material, I used a Color Ramp, which took the black and white gradient from the simulation and reinterpreted it. This allowed me to select the gray color (in the middle of black and white) and, using an emission shader, make it look like it emits light. In other words, you have to make one black and the other white.

You should probably try to bake the simulation again, and make sure you're on frame 1 of the timeline. For some reason, blender doesn't update the smoke simulation when I play the animation from frame 0.
