The saddest part of this episode is how William Shatner's role in this episode is a reflection of his relationship with his co-stars on Star Trek: The Original Series. He is known to have fallen out of favor with most of them for numerous reasons, although he has made efforts at making amends with them, with varying but mostly good degrees of success. Here, he plays a bigoted parent who alienated himself from his own daughter and missed every opportunity to patch things up before she tragically passed away. It's easy to see Grand Pear not only as a tragic yet ultimately redeemed figure, but also as a means for Shatner to express his real-life regrets.

I didn't even notice that staff member the first time I watched this lol It's great to know they had good security on hand at that convention. Clearly, it seemed like he wasn't sure what was going on, just that a bunch of bronies had swarmed one of their invited guests and he took the initiative to make sure everything was okay. Good on him!

I’m sure someone else has mentioned this by now, but one of the roughest parts of this has to be that he never saw his daughter alive again. He left and never got to see her grow and have children. And now he’s come back to Ponyville to try and make amends with his grandkids because they’re all he has left. You could write an entire film about that one story.

I'm pretty sure a lot of ponies just change their names from what they parents named them once they get old enough. Fun factoids about Equestrian toilets: Before Perfect Pear, the only time we'd seen a toilet was when Dodge Junction was on screen. This took place in both Over a Barrel and Party Pooped (ha). In Over a Barrel, it's the only time we've ever had a pony needing to use the bathroom with Pinkie needing to pee really bad. AJ exits the outhouse. In Party Pooped, Pinkie runs into Cherry Jubilee as she exits the outhouse. But! While this may seem like the only use of bathrooms was this, there was one more instance. Back in Three's a Crowd, where Discord fakes being sick with blue flu, he sneezes away Bon Bon's house, and there's a toilet visible while she's wearing a towel on her head as if post-shower.

I heard about experiments at universities where they tried to smacktalk plants, and they really grew better, not because of the insults, but because of the spit and the warmth of the professors^^

My personal favorite episode is Amending Fences for more personal reasons, but The Perfect Pear is either in my top five favorites or top ten favorite episodes of the series.
