[The same applies to other changes that comes "from the soul", like being discorded.] Supernatural beings like Alicorns, Dragons, "Spirits" and other memetic/godlike entities [like the audience] with "True Seeing" can perceive or at least sense projected magic. Spike its the only character in the series so far to notice when magic its in effect [S1E11 & S2E02]; while others like AppleJack [S1E11] just figured out as a logical explanation; and others like Pinkie Pie did not even see it in front of her eyes while in the dark [S2E24]) 17:50 It was probably a lesser changeling (also disguised as Cadance, to provide cover to the Queen when she was busy mindwiping Shining Armor). The three ponies in the cave were also changelings; (the chance to get their own love source by getting-married-first with the flowers was like trowing meat to hungry wolfs).

Let's face it, there's a lot more than that wrong with this episode

jk844100 I'm not saying any episode is perfect. On the contrary. The biggest issue for me was how we never actually get to see Twilight make amends with everypony for them shunning her like that. I guess I just don't like when we have to assume things like that happen off-camera.

TPrower ok I'm just gonna say it; this episode is a disaster

TheNightStar shining armour and cadence are ass pulls out of nowhere because the plot demands it. What was Chrysalis's plan? Infiltrate canterlot then threaten Canterlot so she gets shut inside with out her changeling army so she then has to remove shining armour to remove the shield so they can get in? Why didn't they just, oh you know, do what they do best and go stealth mode and take over canterlot 1 pony at a time? If they feed off love then what is terrorising the population gonna do? unless they just decided they like the taste of fear now. also if the changelings feed off love then why were they defeated by it in the end? Then Chrysalis just stands there and let's them defeat her for no reason Celestia says to get the elements of harmony but they're in that special store room that she had said back in the season premiere "that door is protected by a spell only I can break" so even if they got there they couldn't get the elements then there's the moral which basically says "if you're sceptical of someone never ever trust them or give them a chance because they're probably evil" in other words "never forget your mistrust" there's so much more I could say but I'm lazy

Well considering the Mane6 are the Bearers of the EoH it's not too much of a leap of logic to assume Celestia would put so.e kind of failsafe in place allowing them to retrieve the Elements if she were otherwise indisposed, even her word could give Twilight access to the room, after all magic has many forms. As for why the love defeats the changelings, well we like food right, we need it to live, but too much will give you indigestion. And eating the wrong type of food is bad for you too. The changelings absorb the love of others by impersonating the pony that love is directed toward, however the thing that defeated them ws two ponies combining their love for one another to power a shield that had already proven its worth against the swarms. As for terrorising Canterlot? It was point one of the plan. Take over Canterlot, them Chrysalis can take the place of Celestia, absorbing the love the ponies of Equestria feel for their great leader whilst establishing a base of operations for the other changlings. A lot of ponies visit Canterlot and can even be summond there by the all powerful sunbutt. So a full frontal attack was probably not the best way to go about it, but we don't know what she's tried before. I look at this episode as a pretty epic result of DHX doing the best they could out of a Hasbro mandate to cash in on the royal wedding. And you kinda got the moral a lityle muddled. Kids won't come away with that moral, and lets face it, they are who the morals are aimed at, it's more 'trust your instincts if you think someone's not acting themselves' and even then I never expect great morals from the premieres and finales since they're more about continuing the I going story than being written with a certain moral in mind as the majority of episodes.
