The reason Pinkie was effected so badly was because she always sacrifices so much to make others happy in spite how much it may inconvenience her, and when she finally found something that she likes, that make her happy, she didn't get any support from the people she care about the most.

One scene that I thought would've been good in the episode was if Pinkie was playing the *insert here cause I have no clue how to spell it* at the school and all the students would be covering their ears while Yona would be rockin out

Pinkie saying her instrument is the most important thing in her life or that her life has no meaning without it just hurts. If I remember correctly, her friends should hold that title. It’s like they or everything they try for her don’t matter. It’s not like her friends are without fault since all they really did was tell her she sucked, but seriously... Pinkie is better than this. Going back to “Secrets and Pies” or the “RainbowDash’s Birthday “ episode, we know she holds her friends/their happiness above all else, or at least she should.

I thought the lesson got muddled, since they didn't address her disruption or suggest she get a teacher. And the way the Yaks felt about it was confusing. I honestly felt better about it on subsequent viewings, but I initially thought it was kind of bland and should have been in season 1 or 2.

Non-Compete Clause was funny so I don't consider it as bad an episode as most people do. But this episode seemed to undermine its own premise: Pinkie's playing was causing quantifiable problems with property damage, reckless endangerment, and disturbing the peace, but just played that off as jokes. I could forgive that because this _is_ a kid's show, but at the end, Pinkie got a free pass on that and wasn't even called out for it because she played the victim. And the thing is, just adding one or two lines at the end would save it. When Twilight tells her to keep playing because it makes her happy, the others could say something along the lines of "Uh, Twilight, wait. Can we talk about this first?" before being cut off by Pinkie blasting the music, making for a lighthearted and joke-filled episode. Or, instead of saying her playing was perfect because she was happy, the yaks could've said something like "Pony has spirit for yovidaphone. All pony needs to be good is teacher. Yak can teach pony to play." This would resolve the premise that Pinkie's playing was bad, but still deliver a good lesson: Do what makes you happy, and if you're bad at it, get a teacher. Alternatively, we could mend the premise so instead of property damage, reckless endangerment, and disturbing the peace, Pinkie could play the instrument very well because she has a natural talent for it or something, but the instrument's sound is mildly annoying to her friends. That way, when they go to Yakyakistan to talk to Pinkie, they decide they can deal with it because being somewhat annoyed with your friends is better than losing them. To quote DWK, "friends aren't people who don't piss you off, they're people worth forgiving" and I think that's a very valuable lesson.

This episode hurt me and doesn't really make a whole lot of sense in the grand sceme of things. I mean Pinkie Pie gets upset because she isn't allowed to play an instrument? She interrupted ponies daily lives, and could have seriously hurt Rainbow and the Wonderbolts when they were flying. She can still get good at the instrument if she asked someone, maybe a Yak teach her how to play, she doesn't have to quit playing; she should just play somewhere where she's not interrupting ponies lives, which she was.

I also would agree with those who say Pinkie was being selfish, oblivious, and self pitying.

At the very least, Non-Compete Clause had the Young Six to help save it somewhat...this episode didn't even have that. Sure, the comedic aspects of this episode were funny, but the so-called "lesson" just felt...poorly executed and rushed beyond belief. "Hey Pinkie, even though you still aren't very good at playing that very loud instrument, and it damages ponies' hearing and disrupts the peace when you try to play it in Ponyville, you should play it anyway and we'll support you no matter what, because...friendship?" I mean, give her a soundproof bubble to practice inside or just let her play it for the Yaks, since they seem to enjoy it. All that being said, I did love Ygrid's (sp?) line about how the Yovidaphone is an instrument of happiness and that if playing it makes you happy, then that makes it perfect. Just...keep practicing, though, lol

The lesson this episode basically states is this. Ahem. If you're doing something that's destructive, disruptive, and even borderline dangerous, but you enjoy it, then keep doing it because it makes you happy. I'm sorry, but no. Just. No! Let's say I'm a mural artist. I got permission to paint a mural on this one abandoned wall, but I love painting murals so much that I just start painting random murals on as many buildings in the city as I can find. Unfortunately, I'm not a very good artist, and several of the building's owners tell me to remove the murals I make. But painting murals makes me sooo happy. Well, according to this episode, not only should I not remove the murals, but I should paint more, despite it not being my property and despite others voicing their displeasure, because "it makes me happy". You know what happens now? I get arrested. FOR VANDALISM! A crime that Pinkie committed on numerous occasions in this episode (the most notable case is the apple orchard thing). I know it's slightly different than that, but she's still disturbing the peace and causing destruction, and the worst part is she never makes up for any of her actions. I agree with everyone, this episode is garbage!

Some of the comments are screaming “TELL PINKIE THE TRUTH!”, but that’s not possible. Pinkie’s sister hates surprise parties, but endured them for years because her sister likes throwing them for others, because pinkie pie, despite all of her outwardly projected joy and amusement, is the single most fragile and disturbed creature in Equestria. Giving her even the slightest bit of criticism feels worse than kicking a puppy. The fear of making her feel bad made Rainbow Dash, RAINBOW DASH, lie to her for years to protect her feelings. I cannot comprehend how it might be possible to give her criticism.

Pinkie would not have been so oblivious to how her playing was effecting everyone, yeah she enjoyz it and that's fine, but if it's effecting almost everyone around her in a bad way she should have made an effort to find a place she can play without harming others unintentionally. The moral of "even if someone is bad at something let them enjoy it because it makes them happy" doesn't work in all circumstances. It should have been for a scenario where the activity didn't really effect others. Which didn't happen here

So the only reason why Pinkie Pie was so miserable that her friends told her that she couldn't play the Yovidaphone which is why she lost her pink mane, then she got it back because she's happy to play the Yovidaphone after she was convince by her friends to not stop playing the Yovidaphone even those she's bad at it still. I guess her friends realise that the only way to make her happy again is staring at them all along (Yovidaphone) and didn't thought about that in the first place.

Telling Pinkie that she's not good was the right call. Telling her to give up was not. They should have said "Pinkie, you're not very good at this. Maybe you should take classes to improve, since we know you love it so much!" Imagine all the artists and musicians who wouldn't be sharing their creations if they stopped just because they weren't good at first.

This episode justified Rainbow Dash going so far to avoid telling Pinkie she didn't like her pies. She tried, but Pinkie just does NOT take things well and her feelings can be hurt really easily. *Sigh* I guess she just can't help it. After this, I'm NEVER gonna criticize Twiight and the others again if they try to spare Pinkie's feelings again by lying. Not. One. Bit.

In part I found this episode to be like paying homage to other cartoons where when someone plays a bagpipe everyone is in pain and wondering if a cat's being strangled. But oh boy did they go all out on the Pinkamena depression. She practically just lost all her color at the end there.

You should totally react to the fanfics Something sweet to bite, and Nigeb. Both are horror/Grimdark stories and are honestly probably some of my absolute favorites!! I hated this episode. It seems to me that Pinkie was doing a thing she wasnt good at, hurting other ponies knowingly. The moral would have been great if they said "you dont have to be good at something to enjoy it" but when the yaks loved her horrible playing, i got the impression that it didnt matter to anyone else if the entirety of ponyville was in pain. The yaks honestly should not have been as nice as they were. If they said that it was horrible, but they enjoyed seeing Pinkie happy, thats one thing. But the way it was done implies they have no sense of music. I guess to me personally its bad because i enjoy music and that was the worst part, but this was the first Pinkie Pie episode i disliked, and it turns out to be a bad episode imo. Its sad when a pun is the best thing about the episode.

It sounds like this episode could have been saved by the Mane 6 adding that Pinkie while should keep doing what makes her happy as it's ultimately harmless, she just needs to be more conscious of when and where she plays her Yovidophone. Because their problem wasn't so much how bad she was at it, but that she was disturbing them with it. I think another slight improvement could have been Pinkie feeling betrayed that her friends don't support her in the thing she loves doing rather than not being able to do that thing. Especially because she CHOSE to give that thing up. We've seen Pinkie is insecure about her friendships despite believing in how their bond is close, so it wouldn't be OOC. This episode isn't "garbage" like someone below said, it just made two small but major missteps that impacted the entire thing Alternatively, she could have kept playing despite her friends complaints and everyone got mad at her for not listening to them, so she left to Yakyakistan where she'd be appreciated and still learn the "it's not that we don't support you, it's that there's a time and a place for this" thing along with learning about boundaries and respect. But that wouldn't be a minor dialogue change. I mean really, the minor dialogue changes I mentioned above would fix all the problems except the Pinkie treating sundaes like liquor.
