Kasey Chambers is Australian music royalty. Both parents are musician, the guy front, left of the video playing the lap guitar is her father. She has a very successful solo career in country music (5 #1 albums in Australia), she was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame (2018). Eminem has been one of her favourite songwriters for many years. She had the idea of this version in the back of her mind for a long time. It was the covid lockdown that gave her enough time to learn the lyrics properly and write the melody to it. The video was all thanks to Kasey’s fans. Spotting so many cameras at the concert where this was recorded, Kasey asked fans to send through any footage they had filmed.

When watching you think "oh, this is pleasant". Then it grows into "actually, this is quite nice". Then it grows all the way to "FVCK YEAH" before ending at "The universe is 16billion years old. And I'm lucky enough to exist with this"

This version you can how the mood changes with each verse. 1st verse he’s depressed, 2nd he’s getting belief, 3rd no stopping him now. The Original won a Grammy, This version should have an award named after it - Kasey’s Cover Award. Oh yeah - Great Reaction, can tell you speak from the heart, so finding the right words was spot on and easy on the ears.

I’ve watched a lot of reactions to this and you are one of the few who have immediately got it from the very start. Most others are confused by the way Kasey begins, but you were engaged and appreciative from the moment she started singing. Kasey Chambers is a huge artist here in Aus and has a catalogue going back over 20 years of excellent songs of her own. Certainly worth checking out more if you’re interested.

Kasey's professional career is reported to have started when she joined her families band, The Dead Ringer Band in 1992. In truth, she was writting songs for her family and singing for them uncredited before 1992. About 1999 she left the family band and went solo. She was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame about 2018. The ARIA'S are Australia's version of the Grammys..... The Aria Hall of Fame is our version of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.....except much more meaningful and includes all popular music styles, including ROCK....unlike the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame that ignores great rock musicians and vocalists in favour of insipid POP artists. lol

The beauty of this is everything was always there in the lyrics but the driving cadence of rap doesn't lend itself to subtler emotions. So she is bringing out the fear int he first part, the frustration in the 2nd and the anger and determination when the key change kicks in. I dont think really realised how truly sad and heartfelt those early verses were with the driving rap delivery of Eminem but you could hear it here. I am sure he would be pleased someone got what he was saying and was able to bring it to the surface so spectacularly because it once and for all demonstrates what a great songwriter he actually is.

You seemed to feel it almost as much as Kasey. 40 years in the industry loved by too few, to become an "overnight success" doing a cover/rendition/re-imagining of a Rap. You could dive into her new material, or you can discover her as I did, chronologically via 3 of her original songs. 1) The Captain [as heard in The Sopranos]; 2) (Am I) Not Pretty Enough [in response to mainstream media not playing her music]; 3) Ain't No Little Girl [showcasing the goddess she has become].
@brettbridger3624 ай бұрын
Kasey's got about 12 albums out and is one of Australia's top country/bluegrass artists (in our hall of fame). If you want to hear more of her wheelhouse, as some have suggested, 'Aint no Little Girl' is another fairly recent hit, about a mature response to your partner being a real b*stard. Kasey has that rare gift of exposing her heart on stage and allowing you to step into her emotions and feel them with her. It's really a matter of picking the emotion you're after then listening to the matching song. So 'Pony' takes you to your first crush, 'Not Pretty Enough' is about that need for recognition, "Captain' is about when it all just gets too much and you want to rest in someone for a while and 'Nullarbor Song (Live)' homesickness. Oh, and 'Barricades and Brickwalls' is about 'you're mine, boy'. As with most Aussie artists, live performances will usually be best.

Great reaction to an epic piece of musical mastery. Only criticism is you ended it before the clip was finished. Her sheer exhaustion showed right at the end and capped it off. To see where Kasey came from and understand what her family did to nurture her talent, google Australian 60 Minutes - Kasey Chambers. It is a 20ish year old story, but fascinating.❤

Yours is one of the best reactions to this (and almost any) song I’ve had the pleasure of watching. It’s crazy- you got choked up at the same parts as I did the first time I watched this incredible performance. I mean, how can the word “motherfuckin” get me teary-eyed TWICE in the same song?! Amazing! I appreciate that as a musician you’re seeing it through a different lens than many of us and that made watching your reaction that much more meaningful. I’m now off to watch your Radiohead reactions! Thank you, Jessie Cheers!

Kasey is well known in Australia but unfortunately not here. For a great original song try Ain't no little girl. I would suggest the live version from Bluegrass Underground.

Just a few random thoughts: Her raspy and intense voice reminds me of Melanie, the harmonies remind me of Aurora singing with her guitarist O. Martin, and the sudden, massive drop of the whole band reminds me of A. A. Williams's music.

This really is a stunning work of art!! From Em's lyrics, to the band, to Kasey's passion, to the audience phone footage. And yes, Eminem made this song iconic, but Kasey Chambers made it epic. As mentioned in the comments, her own song Ain't No Little Girl is just as emotional, and should be the anthem for every woman on the planet. Good luck with discovering more of Kasey and her band. G'day from Australia.

While Rap 'Purists' may not like this, Kasey's emotional, heart-felt performance is stunning.......sung from a female perspective, she takes Eminem's words and makes them her own.......artists do covers (1) to pay respect to the original and (2) interpret that song personally.....Kasey does both .......

great reaction, we can see it has hit you like it hits many of us, im not a big eminem fan but this has shown me what a great lyricist he is, to have written a song that can hit people in different ways, Kasey is Australias darling of the music industry, a country singer who has a great catalogue, a suggestion would be "aint no little girl" she says this song is what holds her whole life together, both video and live versions are great, but for me the video version hits harder, here is a link to the video version, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gtZinZhonszLnH0.htmlsi=QNOvhB32agE2Gab0 , have been enjoying your content since discovering it just recently, you are a beautiful down to earth soul, and i wish you all the best, you have a fan in me.
