This episode means a lot to me. When I was exhausted from burning the midnight oil trying to complete an assignment, I was returning home to take a nap after class. I accidentally bumped into a woman on her shoulder and she accused me falsely for 'harassment and molest'. She called the police and they came to arrest me and drive me to the station in a police car. At the station I was handcuffed wherever I went, and I had to answer to a more superior officer when he strictly interrogated me. I was released after 5 hours in a holding cell when my mother bailed me out. For the next 9 months I had to report at 7am in the morning once a month to report for bail, I can't leave the country or avoid a bail because my mother would have to pay thousands of bucks if I were to violate it. Eventually, the attorney general found no evidence whatsover against me and I was free and innocent. The lady who reported me was given 3 months jail simply because there were many others who fell for her stunt. During my time in jail or 9 months I was extremely terrified and traumatized while exhausted, my mother was very worried for what I was going through simply because it would be a shame to have the impression of being arrested for a crime after she raised me for 21 years, only to fear what happened if I was charged and really sent to prison with a record. But with great support and encouragement from my mother, my older brother and my teachers in art school they all encourage me to have hope that everything will be fine and I should focus on doing my best in my studies, I got 2nd in class and a highly decorated diploma with merit that would help me get a place in a university in Los Angeles. I'm happy that they made this episode, it really speaks to me. Hopefully all of you who are looked upon because of first impressions and misunderstanding will find this story of mine as much as this episode meaningful to you all. Somnambula is the name of a villain, a human witch, in the g1 episodes "Somnambula." The previous name drops in reference to magic makes sense in that case. This choice of making her a Pegasus is an odd one.

Pinkie has been really stepping up this season. And judging by the movie trailer, this continues on into the movie. Her and Starlight have been evolving as characters the most this season.

I can see people hating this episode, and while it's not one of my favorites I don't hate it. I like how they dealt with hope, the fact that we got to see what Egypt looked like in Equestria. I loved Rainbow, Pinkie and Daring Do in the episode, and Pinkie Pie especially was amazing in the episode, loved her a lot. (Which is weird since Rainbow is my favorite of the mane six, but Pinkie was on point this episode). Great reaction and can't wait for more! XD.

Speaking of these legendary ponies they are bringing up, one of the last two is Mage Meadowbrook, as in that fake staff Starlight had back in the season 5 premier. So any episode with Mage Meadowbrook should probably involve Starlight in some way.

We seriously need a Zecora episode now...we have never seen her homeland and this is the perfect time for more zebras! Or maybe more Griphonstone? Heck,even the crystal empire or manehattan hasn't been done in a while.

My thought on the air vents is that they were the way Somnambula passed the trial the sphinx set for her and there never was a bridge. I would guess that Somnambula didn't explain exactly how she got over the pit of acid and only told ponies that she took a leap of faith with hope. Over the millennia, when the villagers told the story, they felt it made no sense and added the part about there being a bridge and the sphinx blindfolding Somnambula.

The "Leap of Faith" reminded me of the one in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" when he leaped off the cliff onto a bridge that was painted to look like the canyon. So maybe, the air-vents were there, but no one thought to look down for them.

When I first heard the synopsis for this episode a couple weeks ago, it had me wondering if the story was going to be a sort of re-telling of Lauren Faust leaving the show. I wasn't really expecting them to go that route, but it could have been interesting, and maybe a bit emotional. What we got was cool though, especially with another legend of magic.

It's funny how Somnambula was mentioned in both the Crysataling and Celestial Advice and now we see her physically.

I have to say that I really loved how they portrayed pinkie in this episode, how they showed the things she learned in a friend indeed.

I'm a little confused now. If Somnambula is a Pegasus, how does she have spells named for her (e.g. "Somnambulas's Weather Abjuration" from The Crystalling) Also, while re-watching that episode, I noticed the names of some of the other spells Sunburst mentioned reference the legends long before they are brought into the show. "Mistmane's Materialamity" and "Rockhoof's Rapport" specifically.

Dash was great, not obnoxious and written well, Pinkie wasn't obnoxious either, but the twist was obvious...8/10. Did I mention how adorable Dashie is, was and will be? You have Applejack. I have Rainbow Dash.

A thought why the Ponyville Chronical is because that was the current subject, or rarher where DD's friends were coming from. Another possibility for the presence of those 'airwents' could also be that there never was any bridge. That this is also the way that Somnambula traversed the way, the storytellers just didn't know about it. Which would have made the challenge the Sphinx gave Somnambula seem that much more dangerous and relevant to her the whole 'hope' and 'leap of faith' themes.

In regards to non-unicorns using spells, I'd just have to point out all the other non-unicorn characters that use magic. Examples: Discord, a draconequus; Tirek, a whatever he is; and whatever the sphinx's name was, a sphinx. If you go through the series, there might be a few others. (And sure, Discord's may just be natural chaos magic, Tirek's might be a natural magic for his species, and the same may be said for the sphinx; but I'd like to think that unicorns just have an easier time due to their horns, whilst others have to work harder to use more 'evocative' magic)

finished watching this a bit ago and while listenning to the latter half came up with some potential head canons for the reason why in the sonambula lore the royals were pegasi and why the air vents were in the temple but not the story. ok my thoughts as to why the royals in the story were pegasi stems from the fact that water in the desert is very scarce and with pegasi being able to transport large volumes of water in clouds they were then able to bring life and prosperity into the desert towns, and with this there is the parallel with the ancient pharaohs whom were held to be mediators between the gods and the mortal world and thus ensure prosperity. as for the bridge, i don't think it ever physically existed in the pyramid, it was added later in the story after it happened to make the feat more realistic ( an odd idea i know) the sphinx was trying to kill sonambula after she solved her riddle, gave her an impossible challenge, cross the chasm without wings and blindfolded. and honestly while the bridge in the story was wobbly crossing it on all fours seems a fairly feasible feat.

I watched your video again, and the question about why Dering Do's story was carried in the Ponyville Chronicle can be explained as a story passed on to another paper... sort of like APO of today. A story passed on to other papers to give the story a wider audience. So, AK Yearling might have done the interview in another city and it was passed on as 'breaking news' to other papers across Equestria. Just my thoughts, the Frank Pony

29:10 I'm actually pretty sure we did know the location of Daring Do's house before. There was a similar map sequence in "Daring Don't" (Season 4) which also lined up with the official map of Equestria and could be traced to the northwest as well. Nice to see the consistency there.

This was a very fast paced but important episode. Morals are below. The world building is great as we now see southern Equestria and how it relates in the map of the world. The minor moral of never losing hope was magnified by a gospel-like Egyptian story which was great to see other creatures and cultures. - In S7, we have now seen Egyptian, Norse, Chinese/Asian, and Roman culture and how it affected the world of Equestria. Chinese/Asian culture gave Equestria its compassion, Egyptian its hope, Norse its courage, Roman its strength, and its founding its love. And after all the years before Celestia and Luna's reign, the 2 sisters brought peace. - Now one thing I forgot to mention, the Ponyville Chronicle mentions some politics that I well analyze in more depth later and some callbacks like parasprites mixed with hilariosity. - Moral #1, For us: Success in what you do can bring good to your cause but you need to understand and help the other side that may be negatively affected by your actions. For example, if you run a business, you are trying to make a profit. However, you should offer something to others who can't afford your product due to different situations in their lives. - Moral #2, For TV shows: All of the good things you do may cause bad to happen as a result of being a vigilante but that doesn't mean you should ignore it as "a cost of good."

I did not realize Somnambula was also character in the comics. I did know that Somnambula was a G1 villain and a pretty nasty one at that. I found it odd they brought her back as a good guy/gal. Maybe it would have made more sense as the character from the comic books.

Idk yet if this will be mentioned in the commentary, but the spell with her name on it was a weather Abjuration. So maybe either it was named after her by someone who was find of her or her legend or it was initially made as an application of Pegasus magic by Sonambula and somehow adapted to unicorn magic. Or maybe it even was still Pegasus magic seeing as it was used by an Alicorn. Maybe there are spells for all three races as special ways to use their innate magic?

It's possible that Somnambula only wrote the spells and couldn't cast them herself. Maybe she worked with a unicorn partner to test and ultimately complete the spells.

I actually really like everything about this episode except for the solution at the end. Other than that I actually think this is the best Daring Do episode yet, with the possible exception of DaringCon...

Since Starswirl is one of those legendary ponies, maybe it's found out that Starlight is his direct descendant.

Another phenomenal video as always! Somnambula is definitely my favorite legend thus far in the tv series. Her spells may be tired to Starswirl as I think all the legendary heroes are to come together in maybe the final comic but I may be remembering incorrectly what I read before. But if she interacted and had a friend or acquaintanceship with Starswirl maybe she learned a few things from him even though she's a Pegasus? I don't know. I definitely related with the secondary moral of depression and a crushed spirit, having gone through very many dark moments for years, so I'm glad you brought it up in your commentary. I do think the finale will tie into the Legends of Equestria & maybe we'll get some more backstory for the royal sisters and Starswirl since his role in the comic hasn't appeared yet in the tv series. And most definitely loved your riddle of the Sphinx. I believe I heard it before as well but I never thought to compare it with the show, so that was amazing to learn. Always amazed by your videos. This episode was good in my book plus if you guys hadn't read MLP Legends of Magic issue 5 yet do so because it really goes deep in Somnambula's character and it's fun issue so highly recommend it.

Yearling are one in the same and the she writes about her adventures and intends to get her out of the story so he might be centre... despite the fact that if she stops being Daring Do, there will be no more stories. If he were really smart, he'd blackmail Daring, like Dash suggested at the beginning of the episode, by revealing the truth or, smarter idea, tell her arch enemy Auhizotal about it and he'd take her out of the story permanently.
