What I learned today: Those ponies we saw back in the first episode weren't as unimportant as I thought. Seriously though, it's pretty freaking cool how M. A. Larson took some throwaway characters from the very beginning of the series and created a whole story around them.

Interesting note: This is M.A Larson's last episode for the show (he does get a story credit for an upcoming ep, but this is his last written one)

Someone probably already pointed it out, but Starlight can be seen in the background of this episode (16:00). Suspicious? This episode may explain some of the background-pony appearances, but it didn't explain that one time where there were 5 Minuettes at once. Explain this, Larson! The name of Twilight's mother would be Twilight Velvet. "Twilight Twinkle" is a reference however to one of the names Twilight was given before it was decided to be Sparkle.

Starlight Glimmer sure loves that menu

Twilight and Moon Dancer having the same mane style in the flashbacks actually makes a lot of sense. Twilight was Moon Dancer's idol, or at least a pony she looked up to, so she made her mane look like Twilight's mane to show how much she looked up to her. Then when Twilight didn't show up, it shattered everything that Moon Dancer saw in Twilight and replaced it with anger and sadness. So she changed her hair style to show that she would no longer have anything to do with Twilight. It's a big improvement from Daring Do and Rainbow Dash looking exactly like each other with no reason at all.

I love this episode, one of my favorite Twilight-episodes ever. It makes the whole MLP-world feel a lot more alive and connected. Oh, is it ok if I talk freely about the writers or would you consider that a spoiler?

This one was actually one of my favorites of the season. Kinda Slice-of-Life-esque in some ways, and the callbacks to season 1 are just amazing; almost nostalgic in a way. This is in my opinion the second best episode of the season (and possibly the series). The best episode (of both the season and the series) you still have ahead of you.

you are at the best episodes of season 5. 12-16 18-26 this last group includes the 5 year anniversary special. make sure you watch 18&19 together. they are different episode but you will need to watch both of them.

This is a great episode. The premise of a character being okay about something until they are not is one that I don't like. Also because of the plot the ending is rushed. Though everything else is great.

My main gripe with this episode is that we are never given any explicit scene where Moon Dancer asks Twilight to come to her party, and emphasises how important it is for her to be there. I think it could have been a great inclusion, especially if Moon Dancer was the one who maybe pointed out the book Twilight was reading at the beginning of the episode and was the one who actually prompted Twilight to discover the Mare in the Moon legend, and thus the kick-started the events of the show. There's also the fact that Twilight was pretty busy at the time making the friends necessary to help save Equestria from Nightmare Moon, as well as from herself, so I think her being a "bad friend" to Moon Dancer in that instance was justified. It just comes across as a bit anvilicious
