Hey, Whiskey Tribe, There may be a great project and possible collaboration, if you so choose to accept the challenge. Matt Carriker (of Demolition Ranch/ Off The Ranch, and now working on resurrecting a once famous, but abandoned TX resort, he has renamed Desperado Ranch), Boerne, TX, has salvages a large sum of old wine bottles that he would like to have made into whisky (if possible). I have also left a comment with his OffTheRanch channel, that he should get in contact with The Whiskey Tribe/Crowded Barrel, about possibly turning his wine problem into whiskey glory. I hope the Whiskey Tribe, and and the "Demolitia Mafia" can come together, on this potential project. I would love to see two of my favorite TX KZfaq channels get together, and make some great videos.

An old fashioned with Cognac is excellent. The spirit is sweet to begin with so don't be too heavy handed with the sugar element. I like a dash of good maple syrup, peychauds bitters and an orange zest, outstandink!

They will also most likely ask if you want it sweet or sour for the type of soda that will go into it. Now that's not everywhere, but probably 90% of bars/supper clubs around. I don't even bother trying to order an old fashioned anymore if I don't want soda since a lot of places don't make it traditionally. But I do agree, Brandy would be interesting to see how it pairs. But a "basic" brandy like the classic E&J VSOP or similar.

One of the best whiskey cocktails I ever had involved a mixture of Kashmir peppers and oranges and it was delightful. The spice works really well with whiskey if you like spicy. It's a very polarizing flavor but one I personally love.

@@dirtyfiendswithneedles3111not really, iirc white pepper is just fermented regular pepper, green pepper is underripe regular and red peppercorns aren’t even pepper. Not sure about kashmiri, but if it’s anything like szechuan «pepper» then it’s also not pepper at all

I created an old fashioned style drink that others have said they like. It's called The Smoke of Smaug, and it calls for 1.5 oz. Ardbeg Wee Beastie, .5 oz. Campari, a barspoon of ginger syrup, and 2 dashes of Aztec Chocolate bitters. The color is yellow-orange, and the taste is smoky, bitter, and spicy. A bit like dragon fire.

Me and my fiancees favorite old fashion recipes always seem to be with a Demerara syrup, or 2:1 dark brown sugar syrup. Always angostura orange bitters (don’t like the licorice taste of Peychauds), about 4-7 dashes, an orange peel, and for the whisky we’ve really liked double barrel Woodford reserve, and Sazerac rye. For a Christmas holiday twist we’ll make a brown sugar SS steeped with a couple cinnamon sticks. Works very well!

i often drink a little old fashioned style cocktail. therefore I do a batch and cool it in the fridge. Receipe is: - 600ml The Observertory (20Y - Single Grain), 200ml Water, 12ml Angostura Bitters and 50ml rich demerara syrup. because of the water the cocktail is really great when kept in the fridge; and when you want a little drink, just pour some in a glas and you are ready to go.

I love that you embrace the agave in Texas for the New Fashioned, but my go-to for me is 2 Dashes Ango, 7.5ml 2:1 Demerara Syrup, and 60 ml whiskey. Stir down with a big rock and give it an orange twist (and a cherry if you want a snack afterwards). My go-to for whiskey an old fashioned is EW BiB, but I'd be happy to try one with Redbreast 12!

Baharat Old Fashioned: to make simple syrup: Steep a small muslin bag filled with Baharat seasoning (a Mediterranean meat spice) in some hot water for 10 minutes. Add equal part sugar to water as you normally would to make a simple syrup. Over a large ice cube, Use ½ oz of the syrup, then add 1.5-2 oz whiskey (I use Wild Turkey 101) along with angostura bitters, and garnish with orange wedge, zesting the orange oil on top…Money!

Glad to see Daniel back from yet another vacation. So I'd say my go-to standard Old Fashioned recipe would use Old Forester 1897 or 1920. The higher proof helps keep them from tasting watered down in a cocktail. If I'm feeling like I want something a little different I'm using Watershed Bourbon (it's aged in Apple Brandy barrels whjich lend for a more interesting finish for a bourbon). Really nice craft bourbon, great in an Old Fashioned. Finally, if I want something off the beaten path, I'm going with some Barrell Seagrass in an Old Fashioned. You get notes of anise, lychee, and it's a much more interesting cocktail than your typical Old Fashioned. If I'm going for something that's more of a variation of an Old Fashioned, then I'm using: 2oz Old Forester 1920 1oz Amaro Nonino 1/2oz Simple Syrup 2-3 Dashes each of Orange and Angostura bitters and a 1/2 oz float of an Islay scotch like Ardbeg or Caol ila. Garnish with a luxardo cherry and an orange peel. Makes for a nice, complex cocktail. Cheers MB's.

The Old Fashioned is also available as a premixed cocktail from a number of sources, with the different versions varying _considerably_ in their recipes and in their palatability. My own favorite is _Hochstadter's_ _Slow_ _&_ _Low_ _Rock_ _and_ _Rye_ (84 proof), though I have no idea how available that particular product may be in other states. I put a single large ice cube into a heavy, frosted Old Fashioned Glass, pour in about 2 ounces, and let the ice melt just a bit before sipping and enjoying it. Very tasty. There's also a Dad's Hat Rock and Rye, which I didn't really care for, sad to say. Not surprised that the one may from their rye also disappointed you.

This got me thinking, and therefore experimenting. I generally go with the standard bourbon, and the occasional rye old-fashioned. This video made me remember I had a bottle of Copper & Kings apple brandy on the shelf. It's a not overly-sweet apple brandy, and I thought, "spiced apple might be nice". So I grabbed the ingredients and whipped one up while I was watching. It's not something I would drink every day, but I must say, it is a pleasant and easy to drink old-fashioned. I think with their playing around with vodka and mezcal, they missed an opportunity to drink something more palatable than I can imagine some of the goofy ones in this video are.
