I really loved the aspect of Barry using his speed properly. This was how he fights villains. With super speed and humor. Not getting his ass kicked EVERY episode. I really enjoyed the slow-mo scene. And the other scenes too of Barry progressing not only as a speedster but as a leader. The other storylines were relatable and Despero is played so well by the actor. Great start to the season so far.

I like this episode. I was surprised that Barry fully mastered Thawne’s life-like Speed Mirage trick from Season 1.

This is genuinely where the flash excels. When the characters seem happy and the actors seem like they are enjoying themselves. Every season tends to quickly devolve into a slog because the main conflict tends to bring down the mood and make us feel like we are watching some sort of depressing soap opera. Just this once, I’d love to see a more villain of the week oriented season that allows us to have these characters be enjoyable for longer. Like, let this show be fun to watch.

I actually enjoyed that one episode more than I did the majority of season 7. Sure there were still some issues with the writing - a lot of exposition and repeating buzzwords like "level-up". But, it's great to see the Flash finally using his speed properly. I think they'll keep it up during this arc but afterwards, it'll depend on who the next villain is. Seeing Ray is always a plus, and everything's made better with Brandon Routh. I hope it's not the last we see of him.

Let's face it guys... Ray is one of the best character in the Arrowverse.

Despero is a very top tier DC villain. I am amazed they went with him. He's a great bend that he's STUPIDLY powerful, but also very intelligent.

I think there was a distinct improvement over last season in terms of dialog and inter-character relationships. We'll see if that lasts beyond this episode and even then I don't think it's back in full form (yet), but I feel better about this episode than I do about last season. I was more interested in Allegra this episode than I have been. Chester remains probably the weakest character still.

A good start. Ray was still the best part though. In the season 7 finale, Thawne said that the next time you see him he could be wearing a different face(paraphrasing), so I think he is pretending to be Barry. He knows he can't beat him physically anymore, so why not frame him as the bad guy.

Ray was unaware that the Legends were stuck in time trying to get back into this timeline, but glad to see him appear again.

I think what Allegra was meaning when she was telling them to talk to more than just the Mayor but to also talk to the people. She wants the stories to include voices from all types of Central City Citizens not just the high profile people.

A classic interpretation of the Royal Flush gang. Despero(who was played by Dr Who's Vincent Van Gogh or Marcus Corvinus) is menacing AF. It's always great to see Brandon in the series. The stuff with Alegra was SUPER relatable. A strong start to this event

Barry seems very sure of himself, which is better but still way too late. Desparo's CGI is much better than previous seasons which has me excited. Overall still a little soap opera-y but most of it works which is a good change of pace from last season.

I really liked this episode, huge improvement over the recent seasons.

Was nice to see, The Flash being smart and using his powers like a hero 8 years into his journey should be. The Royal Flush Gang gave me strong Arnold in Batman and Robin vibes, like mate every god damn line had something to do with cards. We get it. Despero had some pretty stilted dialogue "Prepare to die Flash" and the CGI reminds me of Trigon from Titans Season 2 premiere, looks really good when standing still but otherwise is a bit dodgy. Idk, I'm hopeful though. a 5 episode story followed by a 13 episode story next year, my god it's literally what we've been asking for.

19:33 The "dead to him/me" reference was referring to what we found out in Season 7. Cecile had been repressing her memories of her mental breakdown after her mother died. In S07 E13, she was temporarily trapped in her mind prison, which resembled the psychiatric institution she was once put into. Chester flippantly said "Now I'm, like, dead to him" and then realized that it was insensitive to Cecile's mother's death. He probably thought it could be a trigger for her to spiral back into depression. *The irony:* Cecile was never there for her mother in the hospital and chose work/law school over family. As a result, her mother literally died alone without her. Chester has chosen to be there for Ray for work/tech company reasons. And yet, Ray is choosing family over work, despite causing Chester (his "work" friend) to think he was figuratively "dead to him." So Chester saying what he said was basically him inadvertently spitting in Cecile's face and disrespecting her life choices.

There is a team in dc formed by Killer Frost, Atom,Black Canary, Vixen and The Ray, They have all of them avaliable on Arrowverse i would love to see a spin off

Tony Curran (Despero) is great. Often lands "character actor" roles. He was in X-Men: First Class, Daredevil (Netflix), and the list just goes on and on.

The theme of this episode was "leveling up", in case you missed it 😂 But honestly, other than that, I thought this episode was... weirdly good? And by that I mean there's something very different about the production of it that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe I just got used to how bad last season was, or maybe I forgot how the show is between seasons, but I feel like the sets have gotten bigger and better, the camerawork has gotten more dynamic (it seems like there's more walk-and-talk shots that make the spaces feel even bigger), and they're even setting up character development arcs for all the characters that felt abandoned or subservient to the plot last season ( *cough* Allegra and Iris *cough* ). I dunno, maybe it's because it's part of this year's crossover, so there's more collaboration; maybe it's all in my mind; or maybe it's actually getting better! I'm glad you also reacted to Cecile's "dead to me" response. I thought I was forgetting something... what was up with that?

It took me entirely too much time to realize who was playing Despero..haha, I was like "Man, he looks familiar...wait...Van Gogh!!!"

I wonder if they got a new writing team, 'cause this is immediately better than average. Also, for anyone that's also watching doctor who flux, it's like night and day for the first episode of a multi-part series, a cohesive story in the episode and set up for the future.

I LOVED this episode. This was a great first episode. The slow mo scene got me. Ray's score is soooo soothing. I loved it, I loved it, I loved it. Let's hope we get good writing and execution throughout the season. Also did Joe die....Chester and Cecile's reaction, and no Joe.....hmm

You 2 guys are cool & fun. And I liked this episode & the puns, jokes, writing and action. Royal flush was uber fun.... corny as hell, but so worth it! Ray Palmer was Ray Palmer... awesome! Keep bringing him back. He gets character & humor really well. Armageddon is other actors from arrowverse coming to flash. Despero villain is a good actor and doing the character justice. He keeps it real & truthful. And commands authority... Despero is a supervillain that appears in comic books published by DC Comics. The character first appears in Justice League of America #1 and was created by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky. Despero is an alien from the planet Kalanor, and in addition to a genius intellect possesses a third eye on his forehead capable of mind control, illusions, telekinesis, and telepathy. I luv how serious you guys got about blog/podcast news w/citizen news and the Allegra & Iris & the staff.... you guys were interesting af Do you write? You break it down like a writer or producer might do.... and I noticed how you genuinely knew characters & stories really well. Impressive!

It’s been 4 months since this video came out and I just watched the first episode of season 8, sometimes I hate being born in the UK.

That monster you're seeing right there he is from Young Justice season 2 yes season 2 when he came to fight Earth champion like Shazam Superman when he didn't fight Shazam Superboy Megan.

Wow. These guys really didn't know anything about the Armageddon event. They are definitely gonna be in for a surprise (especially regarding who shows up). Also, the Royal Flush Gang have really leveled up from their much more grounded beginnings on Arrow. Glad the Arrowverse is willing to go so much more comicbook-y now.

glad I saw this in my sub box and thought "oh, the flash is back, eh why not check it out again". the past few seasons hasn't been... great, but this was a solid premiere. might actually stick with the season for longer than I did with season 7.

Honest question, should I catch up on the flash, I haven’t watched it consistently since season 3, I’ve seen bits and pieces of the past few seasons but is it worth my time to catch up??

maybe Nora and bart haven't been visiting because the future has changed and they aren't them anymore due to iris not being pregnant yet that seemed like a big seed at the beginning. I see some past and future traveling coming our way. Loved the episode though, very flash. I just hope this isn't the ceiling for the season considering its the crossover
