Just have to say that the acting of WIlliam Zabka in this episode (and this season) is really phenomenal.

I like how Johnny and Daniel are imperfect copies of their Senseis, and their paths to growth are almost mirror opposites. Daniel needs to learn more about Mr Miyagi and the Miyagi Do philosophy, but Johnny needs to basically rebuild the Cobra Kai philosophy and become different from Kreese.

The really brilliant thing about how this whole season is structured is that going into the tournament, you have legit reasons to be rooting for EVERYONE, meaning you genuinely have no idea how it's actually going to turn out since a satisfying ending could be built out of anyone winning.

So 10 weeks until they are done with season 2, and season begins in 14 weeks. The timing is almost perfect.

The thing is, for Johnny to realize that he had been leading Cobra Kai in an unbalanced way (just as Aaron said) he had to experience his own teachings against someone he cared about (Miguel vs Robbie). That's the beauty of Robbie being one of Daniel's students. Of course in season 2 we see more of Daniel's struggles as a sensei that I guess will be resolved in season 3. Even though a lot of the things that happen in this show are over the top or wanky, it's FILLED we messages and parallelisms and character development/deconstruction. It's so obvious, direct to your face, that it's easy to understand and refreshing. 🤗🤗🤗

Miguel targeting the shoulder during the fight is fine, it’s the same in all sport not just martial arts. But pulling on the arm between rounds was just weak from Miguel.

Eric going "shhh" when Robby is about to have his Neo moment + Rick's mouth hanging open at Kreese got me LOL. I'm dying to see their reactions in the s2 finale. And those bobas look great! I can't believe she made the boba pearls from scratch. That's dedication! They look delicious too. And Eric, boba is still super trendy. At my school's campus, any event that is promoted with "free boba" gets a crazy turnout haha. (Ah, that pre-covid life.) Some comments on the episode and their commentary: - Daniel gets a lot of fanfare for being the 2-time champ because he's part of the All Valley board and involved in the community. Johnny is also a 2-time champ but he faded into obscurity. - "Topanga!" I hope that was a BMW reference lol. - I love that they were rooting for Robby. He's such a good kid. Daniel really helped turned Robby's life around and I hope one day Johnny thanks him. So far, Daniel has done more to bring Robby and Johnny closer than Johnny ever has. - It's frustrating to see what Miguel and Hawk became but it's very telling about how young impressionable minds can be so easily influenced by an authority figure they respect. - Such a great moment when Miguel thanks Johnny and CK for his win. Johnny looks absolutely gutted; it's not the win he wanted. - Aaron, I disagree with Daniel being an asshole other than the time he raised Johnny's rent. For everything else, he was either reacting to something Johnny did to him (heck, even the rent stuff was a reaction to Johnny's vandalizing) or he thought he had good reason to do what he did (not wanting to un-ban CK, etc). So I give him a pass considering he: fixed Johnny's (his past bully!) car for free just cuz he's a nice guy, realized the wrong of his ways for the rent thing and sought to balance himself after what he did, backed off when CK got un-banned, gave Johnny a free car, coached Johnny's kid and took care of him, and got Robby to let go of his anger for Johnny. Daniel is just a good dude who sometimes lets his anger and emotions get the best of him, especially wherever Cobra Kai or Kreese is involved, due to his traumatic past experiences with them. But he always tries to do what he thinks is right. - Woo, love Amanda and Yaya. (spoilers for s2) Though I hope in the future Amanda will come to understand Daniel and why he's so invested in teaching karate to kids who would otherwise learn it at Cobra Kai. He thinks he is protecting them from bad teachings and from dangerous men like Kreese; he feels he owes it to his younger self to do that. Though of course I understand Amanda's perspective. They have a business to run together, a marriage to make work, and she can't understand why her husband is more focused on karate than on them.

I love how this show plays with emotions. Makes you love and hate the same characters over and over again. And even when they act like jerks, there are other "spices" which still makes it sad if they are not doing well. Miguel in this part of the show goes full jerk...and you want him to lose. But his mom is so cool and sweet...Miguel losing would be sad for such a lovable character. And Johnny´s double feelings about his student and his son, etc. It plays a lot with stuff like that. Is amazing.

Boba tea is a staple in the diet of Asian college students. First date? BOBA TEA! Second date? BOBA TEA Marriage? Proposal with a ring jeweled with a tapioca ball! I don't drink it much because of the high sugar calorie content, basically like drinking a milkshake, and when I do I just get it without the boba balls but it is a great thing. There's a lot of variety in it nowadays, using different "toppings" instead of just the tapioca boba balls like different jellies, pudding, the popping kind of boba, red bean. Living in southern California, boba tea shops just sprout like grass so there's always hip new places to go and try their versions of it. It is SO cool that Jan can make it too

What makes Cobra Kai so good is that they is no bad guy in the show. Every character has good and bad in them. No character ( even Krease ) is all bad.

I really like how you get to like each Cobra Kai member up untill this point where their win just doesn't feel like a win.

Daniel is basically trying to relive his glory days and hold onto his grudges. Seasons 2 and 3 gives him that truth bomb that he still has a lot of moving forward to do

I was genuinely interested in the corrupt corn subsidies conversation that almost took place

As much as I loved The Expanse as a series, as just another 40 something who grew up on the KK movies, I don’t think I’ve ever had as much fun watching a series as I did with the 1st season of this show. The producers did such a phenomenal job paralleling the stories of the new characters with the older ones, while building on their previous stories that stopped at the end of the 3rd movie as well. And from the tournament Gis, to the great 80s hair metal & pop soundtrack, to seamlessly referencing the unforgettable parts of the movies into the new episodes (like Miguel’s Crane Kick, the same apartment complex Daniel lived in, the Halloween costumes and party, etc…), the writers ended up crafting something just as unforgettable as the movie for both the generation the first lived it in the ‘80’s, and a new generation for today.

That opening was amazing... the tea I mean. Cartoon was good too

I loved Jacob Betrand (Hawk) Disney show when I was little so I always route for Hawk even if he is evil

I cried. Yes, I did cried.

I took part in a few karate tournies as a kid but we always had protective gear on, so it felt incredibly restrictive for movement. The most effective move you could do was just a front push kick because the gear made it difficult to stay balanced or dodge. During the match there's so much adrenaline that I barely knew what I was doing half the time anyway.

The funniest thing in this episode is how Bert comes across as the weakest, but in reality, the dude's a real damn black belt lol!

Seeing Rick and Eric light up like little kids when Kreese showed up was so funny

Thanks! 😁🖤💛🐍👊🥋 I hope you continue on with that schedule for season 2... When I did Judo we had to train with 40 year old men, I wish we had teenager classes in the 90s.... It was very unpleasant and was mainly why I stopped doing it. Judo has a lot more physical contact and like I said it was very unpleasant to be stuck in a hold beneath a smelly, hairy guy whose judogi (and no shirt underneath) was wide open from fighting. 🥴
