A special State Department panel recommended months ago that Secretary of State Antony Blinken disqualify multiple Israeli military and police units from receiving U.S. aid after reviewing allegations that they committed serious human rights abuses.
But Blinken has failed to act on the proposal in the face of growing international criticism of the Israeli military’s conduct in Gaza, according to current and former State Department officials.

Netzah Yehuda unit was originally organized to attempt to get the ultra-Orthodox community to serve but they do not believe in being part of the military so this brigade ended up being populated with radical settler zionists that support the settlers stealing land and killing palestinians in the west bank.

Because more journalists have been killed there in the last six months than have been killed all together since WWII. Gaza has been under a vicious near-total blockade since 2007. It's incredibly difficult to move in or out for residents or anyone visiting. You have to apply months in advance and the vast majority are denied entry

Bc the Israelis are not in the business of providing journalists safe passage thru a war zone. It has always struck me as incredibly stupid that we do this for our own and foreign media. Israel knows like anyone who fought in Afghanistan that the enemy is everywhere and those that were complicit yesterday are just as likely to be firing at you tomorrow. Even better, the allies in both the east and western fronts during WWII took very few to no prisoners during small skirmishes for exactly the same reason. sanctions don't tell them what to do and no, each country isn't allowed to have their militaries raping and assaulting civilians. The sanctions mean the US, which gives billions to Israel for all sorts of efforts, won't be giving any money for one unit of the IDF...potentially. sanctions can be broad or very narrow in scope. considering the atrocities in the West Bank, though, no American is happy knowing that occurs thanks to our tax dollars. that'd be like us directly funding pre-Oct 7, Hamas...they're still bad people.

the sanctions aren't against the entire country. it would mean the US would start itemizing what we're actually giving our billions to the Israelis for. and, instead of them doing whatever they want, a unit of their military will have to get funding some other way. you'd think with the massive amount of weapons, training, and money we give Israel, this would've already been in place but...no. and the reality is, just like Iran offset it's spending when it's money was released by the US, Israel will just offset this underfunded unit. it's a small step but a step all the same

Those disagreeing with you should look up the atrocities committed against Native Americans by the U.S. army. Women running away holding their babies were gunned down at Wounded Knee in 1890. There were War Crimes documented during our occupation of the Philippines after the Spanish American War. There was massive bombing of targets in WWII when it was known that civilians couldn't be avoided. The historian Howard Zinn talked about this. He served on a bomber crew and participated in some of the first deployment of Napalm. Napalm was particularly brutal and used extensively in Vietnam. Numerous atrocities documented in that War by the U.S. The My Lai massacre was just one. In Iraq we used depleted Uranium which is a known carcinogen. It's also been linked to birth defects which were highly elevated after the Shock and Awe campaign. The U.S. military has definitely inflicted allot of terror on the civilian populations of its enemies.

Israel is doing a piss poor job of proving those are real. They’re being very stingy with the evidence, including video footage and photos, supposedly out of respect for the victims, but they can blur faces and genitals. Showing some selected footage and interviews to a few media outlets to report on doesn’t convince people who already distrust the media. It seems in poor taste, but if they want the world to believe them and realize just how awful Hamas is, they need to show, not tell.

If Israel wants the world to understand how bad Hamas is, they need to publicly release footage and photos of the atrocities, not give a scripted slide show to media outlets to repeat and be ignored. They can blur faces to protect the victims. How many people do you think would believe the Holocaust was real without the photos and videos and interviews? Israel is being stupid.

Unlike the IDF, Hamas has not brutally targeted children for attack. Israel had killed a *thousand* innocent Palestinian children even BEFORE Hamas had their stupid little terrorist attack on 7 Oct. since then, Israel has slaughtered *14,000* innocent Palestinian *children* and left 20,000 more orphaned. Israel has kept Palestinians trapped in an apartheid state where they cannot even walk down their own damn streets, let alone hold free and fair elections. Israeli blockades of most aid to Palestinians and prohibition of any meaningful employment to them means Palestinians have been slowly starving, enmeshed in inescapable poverty as their everyday illnesses go untreated. People have died as a direct result of Israel's refusal to treat the Palestinians as people. So who's the one violating human rights here?
