In this one we were called for a blocked drain but quickly realized it was a septic tank not draining. after testing the electrics on the pump and finding they were all ok we removed the pump.
once we removed the pump we found it had disconnected from the pipework and had been running for days just circulating sewage. the pump had super heated from running so ling and heated the water in the tank to the point of steaming.
we refitted the pump and let it drain the tank and once drained we cleaned and tested the drains.

Maybe some barn lime, for future dry disinfectant. Space is limited in the van, but if you have advanced warning…

we do keep lime for disinfecting, removing smell and preventing infestation of flys and rodents but we mainly use it for spills in floors and under houses.

More than likely came apart from a not so good attachment at that pipe. Interesting seeing the septic system versus regular pipe work. Good job!

Hi, That was interesting. Septic systems do an amazing job when they are well maintained. Tradesmen should always double check things before they leave. Thats just my opinion. An error like that could of cost a new pump. Stay Safe from a Tasmanian Fan ❤️🙏👍🤗

A good job sorted. The subtle differences between UK English and North American English always provide entertainment. To North American ears at 9:50 , it sounds like it might have been a much much dirtier job than it was in reality.

I love how North Americans comment on Accents and Language so much. I only notice American speech if its very southern lol or New York has very strong accent too

Looks like there was a piece of rope, which should be attached to the pump, as wires should never be used to pull it up. Also, if that motor got that hot, and there was oil in that water, it likely came from the motor, and it won't last much longer.

Hi Steve. Your absolutely right the cable should never be used to pull it up. i wasnt paying attention when Matt pulled it up. we had the discussion when watching it back, Never pull up with cable, there is a chain or rope to use. we also run it dry, also a no but i wanted to see if it was burnt or still running. the customer has been informed it may need replacing again as its lifespan would have been reduced due to over heating. i honestly thought it was toast, surprised it was still going.

Sadly, whoever put it in forgot to tie the rope to the pump. Also, running it dry for a brief period is fine, the water in the pit is used to keep it cool, but it takes several minutes of it running to even start getting warm. If you use rope, make sure it is a type to handle water, say like a ski rope. I still prefer a stainless cable.

Few tips, never lift a pump by its cord, dont run a got pump dry like that. Always expect the tradesman before you did a half azz job, too common these days. Learn pumps so these people can have proper installs. Cheers mates!

That 90 should have been a 45 or a y. Hope the wires weren't obstructing the float from working properly
