Haven't watched yet, but this is funny to me😂 Corporal punishment has being a normal part of my life as an African, both in school and at home. There is nothing to justify to me. It's just normal The carrot and stick technique is perfect. I think Almighty Allah even employs it regularly in the Quran

@naushad5139 I tell you. I see having issues with it as another type of liberalism In my country, we see how children insult their parents in the western world in movies, and we marvel. Then we conclude, if only they had meted some corporal punishment earlier on!😂

*Here is the issue IMO.* *We have new cities and new housing developments getting built everywhere as the population grows,* *These new developments and expanding cities have new business malls, shopping cents, hospitals, parks, gyms, movie theaters etc - but one thing they don't have - NONE OF THEM! - and that is, New Jails and New Prisons.* *Why?* *Because there is no return on investment.* *Every single country in the world is now running into this issue - money and resources are drying up to house criminals and run the jails.* *No new jails are built because no one wants to spend money with zero return, and there are 100 and millions of dollars required to run the facilities. TAX payer is already exhausted - who is going to pay the cost? No one!* *So what's happening?* *They are making the punishments more and more lenient - criminals are kept for a few days or sent to house arrest so that more space is made for new convicts. They simply don't have the money left to run the jails with growing number of convicts as the population grows. So what we have come to? convicts and criminals, rapists, child predators, vicious thugs and murders roam free among us tax paying law abiding peaceful citizens.* *What's the solution that IMO will REALLY AND TRULLY work with about 90% effectiveness? Physical punishments at the spot to convicts.* *Chop a few hands off and then see how quickly the word spreads around and robbers think twice before stealing.* *If a murder and/or rapist or child predator is convicted based on DNA and/or other undeniable evidence then put a 50 cents bullet in the back of his head soon as he comes out of the court room - instead of putting him jail for years and let the tax payer money pay for his three hot meals a day, gym, library, internet, temp controlled housing, and his health care.*

Paul, as a student of philosophy, I've found numerous parallels between the teachings of Islam and other philosophies. As an example, the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche and his concept of 'Amor Fati' (love of one's fate) somehow corresponds to qadr, acceptance of fate, and the idea of submission to Allah. Nietzsche, like Leo Tolstoy, believed that Christianity (Paul) had corrupted the true teachings of Christ and had glorified everything weak. He also favored Islam over the former. Then, there are philosophies like Stoicism and Epicureanism which also share roots with Islam. Contemplate death a lot, Seneca had advised. So did Muhammad (PBUH). Other philosophies like that of Buddha and Aristotle's "The Middle Way" or "The Golden Mean", again they share that with Islam. Whether it's Baruch Spinoza's God or his idea of "Sub Specie Aeternitatus", all of them have been in some way reinforced in Islam. Alain de Botton, and his teachings on mental well-being, focus on simplicity and the pleasure of the common life, etc. I see the same in Islam. I am not saying that it's plagiarism or anything. Far from it. Thomas Aquinas said there are two kinds of truths. First is the kind which is absolute and cannot be reached or comprehended with rational effort. The other is that that can be achieved with human effort, which is essentially what I am talking about here. My idea is that Islam and Philosophy do go along together. Philosophy, most of the time, corresponds to some aspect of truth. It's brilliant. Brilliant. I was an agnostic/Atheist. A few months ago, I reverted to Islam. What are your thoughts about all this? Thank you, sir.
@disuser-lp3qv1tm8f
@disuser-lp3qv1tm8f 8 ай бұрын
You're confused. Philosophy and Islam do not go together. Those parallels you found are simply the result of the fact that philosophies always correspond to some aspect of truth, but they are never the truth nor can they lead to truth. Philosophy can only lead you astray, especially if you're not well-grounded in Islam.

There is difference of Opinion weither Philosophy is Okay or Not. (Because some students of the Companions of Prophet did engage in it Others didn't as far as I know) However ,Philosophical Speculation on questions already answered directly by revelation and about "what God is "is discouraged in Islam,because God is in the Unseen. Also you can't think straight once you go deep in Philosophy and imbeding Philosophical definitions in your mind prevents you from thinking straight.

According to Fatāwā, you should not study philosophy in a secular university. Even if you're studying it from an Islamic one, you should be well-grounded in traditional Islamic knowledge, strong in Īmān, and steadfast in your religion. Otherwise you're not allowed to study it because it causes confusion and Allāh Forbid, a person may lose his Īmān due to doubts.

Salam, that's great to hear. There's a video on this channel called "How can Ibn Taymiyya benefit us today?" It discusses the relationship between reason and revelation and may clear up some issues. And you're right, I was listening to a lecture on stoicism by Michael Sugrue and I was surprised by how much it corresponded to what I already believed based on Islam.

Taking someone who is a burden on society and imprisoning them will only shift that burden to a financial one. In the US an inmate costs tax payers $100K per year, and they often come out worse than when they came in. Corporal punishment removes the burden from society and places it solely on the felon. Moreover, the felon ends up going home that day to straighten themselves.

Hello Paul I read Prophet Daniel prophecy 9 26 here I noticed prophet Daniel didn't say here Messiah will be killed or murdered but translation is (cut off) but some NIV translation used the word put to death here but in Hebrew its meaning is cut off. I think this also proves Islamic perspective that they didn't kill the Messiah. “And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall [a]be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

Why should they be defended? The question should be 'Why should corporal punishment be banned on rational grounds?'. There are no rational grounds for banning them, there are only sentimental emotive reasons for it. Rationality can justify anything you like.

There's only one way to learn a lesson: The hard way. Remember as a child, when you would burn yourself. You instantly learned a lesson. Without it, you'd keep letting yourself get burnt. Corporal punishments are essential. Without them, people become repeat offenders and/or are not afraid to commit crimes.

During Zia ul Haq's Marshal law, murderers and rapists used to get lashed. I swear to God, the crime rate dramatically went down because the criminals were more afraid of the corporal punishment than the jail time. It definitely works. The creator knows the it's creation the best. Same with Saudi Arabia.

Correct. The west, especially in the USA, does not have the stomach to deal with reality including corporal punishment, death and other injuries. "The infant mortality rate started a long slide from 165 per 1,000 in 1900 to 7 per 1,000 in 1997" I sympathize with parents who lose children to disease or injury. Yet, that should not be as devastating to the degree you see some parents experience and get trapped in the sorrow. One factor that worked against toughening up the population is prosperity. The continental US land mass did not experience invasions, oppression, destruction and struggle. Compare that to the rest of the world that experienced all the above over the years, and as late as now.

I am expressing what I saw. We our troops whipped Hussain guards. Our troops in his palace ,home. Found home movies of torture .of criminals. A man stood in the town square ,a rope around his neck. Hooked to a crane. With a sign of his crime . His crime, a homosexual. They lifted him inches off pavement. To dangle suffer be. Let him down. This goes on as he passed out. Let him down revived lifted him up. Till dead cruel punishment .we don't kill homosexuals. It's not a crime in magority of nations. Another ,fingers cut off for stealing . Murderer,was blind folded hands tided behind the back.. Then prodded by guards and poked him with sticks ,knifes. Till marched him over building to his death Now was this a monster , of He following the Quran what do you say .

I'm not sure but I have also asked myself in the past and have found out 3 things, first we are the property of our Creator and Sustainer, then second point, children go to paradise so the child here is indeed rather a lucky boy, and three those parents in the story are apparently simple humble people, they have only their child to take care of while they are young and they have to rely on him for their old age. So overall this is all well as expected. But I should certainly take the chance to read the website that has been cited above.

No. If you need to hit your child you've failed as a parent. Studies show that parents feel good when they hit their children. Nothing like finding a way to alleviate your frustration, is there? So, they do it because it makes them feel good and because it makes their life easier, in the short term. A friend told me that he was hit for the first time when he was 12, so he remembers a time before being hit. He says that he never trusted his parents again. My own memories is that it was more a question of my parents' mood than what I had actually done. This I think is true for 99% of parents. Patience runs out and they hit. I would rather cut off my hand than hit my child. As a punishment in the legal system; I have no opinion. Never thought about it.
