This game is proof that a professionally spoken, rich Shakespearean and poetic story makes every game 100 times better. If you would take the game play and mechanics alone this title would be nothing to write home about, but it gets lifted to great heights because of it's intense characters, extensive lore and voice acting that still today comes across as top tier. Games shouldn't mimic films, if anything they should mimic theatre played by charismatic actors.

Malek was pretty cool. He isn't intimidated by Kain at all and his bastion is like the worst nightmare for a vampire to live in. Although Kain was overconfident, thinking he could defeat Malek so early on, Malek proved to be no match for Vorador.

1:15:00 Ah that pivotal moment when all of the machinations of time and fate come undone. It's only after having been through the rest of the series that you come to realize just how tremendously impactful this moment is.

Simon Templeman should have played Smaug in the second Hobbit movie. His voice is rich, cultivated, elegant and cruel at the same time.

Sounds better the more of the series you've played and encompasses Kain's malicious naivety after being resurrected, which I think is also mirrored in Soul Reaver by Raziel's similar but more nobly-intended lack of understanding after becoming a wraith. Neither can immediately grasp what they've become involved in, but both undergo major character development that dramatically changes their views on themselves and the world.

This game is like the best novel, book, movie you could ever read or see, its a masterpiece in every sense , even now i still remember the dialogues, the intrincate storyline, Kain personality , hell there are many things i learned from this game that applies to real life , like how you must always think of the future consequences of your actions and not being a fool blinded by emotions . Long live Simon Templeman, Amy Henning and all the crew that worked in this. VAE VICTUS

This is better than watching a movie ! The quality and darkness in this game is unsurpassed

I really adore this series. Especially with how devious the writing is. They took a very basic formula (you vampire, go kill set number of bosses) and not only spun an interesting tale out of it, but also turned the sequels into very interesting new takes on the story (like finding out what truly kept Malek from helping). I won't say that one was better than the other, but it is a great series to look back at and enjoy.

The complex dialog and character commentary are a major part of what give the Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver games their charm.

this was a true gem for PlayStation back in the mid 1990's, i wish this type of game could be remastered and updated to 2020 specs and it would be a great addition to PS4 library.

As of today I have finally acquired every game in the Legacy of Kain series. I am a very happy man.

I listen to this for the drama, story, and atmosphere. My girlfriend thinks I’m odd. This is a work of art. If they invested time, effort, and money into this game it could easily become the next Skyrim.

I played this game after I played the two Soul Reaver games, but before I played Defiance. I knew the canon ending was to withhold the final sacrifice and condemn Nosgoth to ruin, but I was curious what the alternative would have been. Needless to say, when Ariel's dialogue pretty much illustrated that my character gave up everything so that no one would remember his name, or care about his sacrifice, or even give two shi*s about anything he had done, I reloaded the save game and gleefully chose the canon ending. Forget me?! Forget this you ungrateful bast**ds!!! Ha ha ha ha.

Many years ago i had a dream. In my dream i was playing the absolutely awesome board game version of Blood Omen Legacy Of Kain. Needless to mention how disappointed i was when i woke up...

As a game designer, this game holds a special place in my heart. It was like the most twisted version of “A Link to the Past” that could ever exist. It also taught me as an adolescent the sheer importance fantastic lore, world-building, dialogue, and voice-acting can make in that “new era” of gaming back in the day...lessons I still take to heart every day at work. To this day, I can still recite every single word of dialogue verbatim from the opening word through to at least reaching the Pillars of Nosgoth. I think I may have played the beginning a tad to much 🤣 Thank you for uploading this nostalgia trip. I would love to see this series revisited again someday with another entry...something I’d LOVE to work on! 🙂👌

I liked in the storyline there were really no true “good guys” in the game. Maybe except the old king and his army, but they were all slaughtered in the end. This was a pretty dark series where all the power players are mostly evil and ruthless, or have some kind of dark ulterior motives

This, soul reaver 1,2 and defiance make for excellent bedtime stories to fall asleep to.

I looked at other videos for the Soul Reaver/Defiance story, however I noticed there was quite some scenes missing. I think I will focus on that next. Stay tuned.

The legacy of Kain series, has one of the best stories. I loved every moment of these titles. Why can there not be a reboot. Or even a continuation, I know that old octopus face is not dead just buried. Lets pick up where Kain left off what comes next for him and his empire.

Many games back then had pretty bad voice acting, but this game was one of the few that had actual actors and really good direction and dialogue. Almost feels like an audio book and I could probably just listen to them talk without playing the game.

56:12 - Hash'ak'gik... I understand now. In LoK: Defiance, Turel is revealed to be the deity at Avernus Cathedral. It would be impossible for him to exist before the Soul Reaver events, which means the deformed vampire monster Turel merely occupied a place in Avernus, claiming to be Hash'ak'gik. I had thought initially the humans worshipped this "god" only after Turel's arrival, but it turns out they already did it before, so he cunningly took advantage of that fact. Earned himself a home, albeit a very small one, and constant nourishment.

What Amazing Voice Acting. To Think This Came Out In 1996 And Nerds Rave About Final Fantasy 7 Which Had No Voice Acting A Year Later!

Every now and again, whenever I have to do some painting or drawing, I binge on the LoK series and I always start with this video. Though sometimes I peak at the video to see what is being mentioned, audio by itself is just as good as an audio drama.

Unforgiven 2 -- Blood Omen: Legacy Of Kain Soundtrack Hello all ! This concept has been in my mind sunce the year 1997. During that time i was introduced to Blood Omen LoK 1, and it was much by chance. I stumbled upon it by checking various shareware games found on a cd-rom that i got as a gift from upgrading my computer at that time. As the years went by, my knowledge of this gaming series (Blood Omen, Soul Reaver, Defiance) has increased as well as the lore behind it. I was barely 18 by that time and made it a habbit of watching Mtv / VH-1 whenever coming home from highschool. When i watched this video (and heard the song), something clicked in my mind, and the conotations started sprawling through the depths of my imaginations. So without further adieu, here is my interpretation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lay beside me and tell me what they've done ----------------------------------------------------- Mortanious the necromancer speaks to kain during the scene in hell and supplicates to his plight. Refering to "They" as if suggesting the brigands. The same ones whom were tasked with killing Kain the nobleman. And speak the words I wanna hear to make my demons run --------------------------------------------------------------------- Kain now speaks to Mortanious, begging him to be the bearer of good news and serve as his saviour. The door is locked now but it's open if you're true If you can understand the me then I can understand the you --------------------------------------------------------------------- Mortanious retorts to Kain's plea and gently explains that he can indeed offer salvation to Kain if he's truly meaning However such gift does not come without a price, a personal price. And thus parlays with Kain. Lay beside me, under wicked sky Through black of day, dark of night, we share this, paralyzed ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mortanious speaks to Kain, and mentions the fact that they do confer now in hell. Motives of black and dark, refering to night, death and the infernal. Mentioning that both are afflicted with such. Kain afflicted as he's soul is chained to a cross in hell with the sword of his assassin piercing through his back, he languishes in agonies. On the other side Mortanious is a long time student of necromantic magic and the guardian of the pillar of death, he too is afflicted with A demonic possession. Though Kain is not aware of it yet. The door cracks open but there's no sun shining through ------------------------------------------------------------------- The bargain is done, and Kain can finally see the end of the tunnel, but such conveyance is not what he though it might be. A motive diregarding the very light of the sun suggests only darkness, or an existence bound to the darkness. Black heart scarring darker still but there's no sun shining through No there's no sun shining through, no there's no sun shining ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- A reference to the Black Heart. The same very dark heart that once belonged to Janos Audron, the greatest vampire who has ever existed. Mortanious did exchange Kains former human heart with the dark heart, through a ritual meant to resurrect Kain as a vampire. Further repeating the fact that in resurrecting, there shall be no true peace for Kain. What I've felt, what I've known Turn the pages, turn the stone Behind the door, should I open it for you? Yeah, what I've felt, what I've known Sick and tired, I stand alone Could you be there 'Cause I'm the one who waits for you Or are you unforgiven too? ------------------------------------------------ Kain bemoans his dark fate which further awaits him to rise up to. Thinking back at his past suffering and finally questioning Mortanious's motives. Is he truly an ally, a friend ? or maybe secretly a schemer. As if Kain saying to Mortanious: Et tu, Brute?‎ Are you unforgiven too ? Come lay beside me, this won't hurt I swear --------------------------------------------------- Mortanious harkens to Kain gently to trust him as he manges to dislodge and retrieve the sword which was burried in Kain's torso. She loves me not, she loves me still but she'll never love again ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a clearly a reference to Ariel the former guardian of the pillar of balance. Mortanious still probes through his thoughts, remembering the Horriffic evil deed that he was forced to commit due to his demonic possession (by the Unspoken Entity). Afted having murdered Ariel, he feels no Emotion or regret and speaks of her futility since she's no longer withing the living. She lay beside me but she'll be there when I'm gone ------------------------------------------------------------- Mortanious stating the Ariel is a ghost which he can see and perceive. Alluding to the idea she'll be forever haunting the site of the pillars, Even after he's gone. Black hearts scarring darker still, yes she'll be there when I'm gone Yes she'll be there when I'm gone, dead sure she'll be there? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Further refrencing the dark heart idea mentioned above as well as Ariel's ghosty status throughout eternity. During this second verse, i could have sworn the lyrics went: " Black hearts scarring darker STEEL" as if refering to the darkening of Kain' steel armor, As part of him becoming a vampire. What I've felt, what I've known Turn the pages, turn the stone Behind the door, should I open it for you? Yeah, what I've felt, what I've known Sick and tired, I stand alone Could you be there 'Cause I'm the one who waits for you Or are you unforgiven too? -------------------------------------------------- As the first chorus. Lay beside me, tell me what I've done The door is closed so are your eyes But now I see the sun, now I see the sun Yes now I see it ----------------------------------------------- This part is taken out of the context of the cannonical plotline. In this ending, Kain actually chooses to sacrifice his life in order to redeme the pillars and save nosgoth. Kain finally sees the light of the sun, a metaphore suggesting his soul's salvation and ascending to heaven. He also might be refering to either Mortanious or Arial. Both of which finally put to rest. What I've felt, what I've known Turn the pages, turn the stone Behind the door, should I open it for you Yeah, what I've felt, what I've known So sick and tired, I stand alone Could you be there 'Cause I'm the one who waits The one who waits for you Oh, what I've felt, what I've known Turn the pages, turn the stone Behind the door, should I open it for you? (so I dub thee unforgiven) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As the first chorus. Oh, what I've felt Oh, what I've known I'll take this key and I'll bury it in you ------------------------------------------ The key refrence here might suggest the "Soul Reaver" sword which was "Key" to defeating "The Unspoken". Or perhaps the Soul Reaver blade (Secretly holding Raziel's soul) serving as an eventuall "Key" for Kain to Match the machinations of fate, move by move and thus defy the tyrannous stars. Because you're unforgiven too Never free, never me 'Cause you're unforgiven too, oh oh ------------------------------------------ Kain facing his ultimate rival. Mortanius indeed was the unforgiven all a long. He was possessed by Hash'ak'gik the dark entity and the truth is finally revealed.
