In 1978, Dire Straits had the lyrics in one of their song state "They don't give a damn about any trumpet playin' band, It ain't what they call Rock and Roll". Well the people in that verse they were referencing never heard "Blood, Sweat & Tears" and ":Chicago". These bands rocked and had a horn section to boot. Both bands were produced at the time by James William Guercio; he went onto producing eleven (11) Chicago albums.

Don't forget Crow and Rare Earth both had horn sections
@EvilTheOne
@EvilTheOne Жыл бұрын
@@HotItalian1 I'd definitely agree on Rare Earth, although with Crow, their horn section was a bunch of studio musicians that came in to do some tracks. One of Rare Earth's lead members, Gil Bridges played horns throughout his time with the band. And Rarer Earth does an epic 21 1/2 minutes version of Smokey Robinson's "Get Ready"; speaking of Motown covers by 1960's rock artist. Good catch on Rare Earth!

Boy are you on a roll tonight, killer song after killer song! For another from that era, try a psychedelic classic from the Electric Prunes, their I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night. I survived and still remember those days, glad to be here a half century later and watching in wonder as modern listeners discover the utterly great music of my youth. Enjoy, I sure am. 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

I'm very familiar with this cover version but I didn't remember Brenda Holloway's original so I just checked it out. I love Blood Sweat & Tears but I really enjoyed the TV Show performance by Brenda Holloway. It might be just her dancing while singing but it really took me back in time. I loved it.

This is a 1969 cover of the original sung by Brenda Holloway. This song was written by Brenda Holloway, Patrice Holloway, Frank Wilson and Berry Gordy. The original recording by Brenda Holloway was released on the Tamla label on August 17, 1967. BS&Ts version sold over a million singles and was certified gold by the RIAA.

I'd recently saw an interview from Chicago's trombonist Jimmy Pankow; he mentions while the band was still playing at clubs in LA in the late 60s (still not signed by anyone) a staff producer from New York dropped in and saw what talent the group had and was so inspired he went back to New York and got session musicians together that consisted horns and woodwinds as the main part of the band. Jimmy Pankow in his own words said 'they'd beat us to the punch' They'd released their album first in '68 while Chicago's first album was released in '69. That group that beat them to the punch were Blood Sweat and Tears. But we all know who's the better band out of the two 😉

B, S & T came on strong with this hit song, following right on the heels of the success of Chicago Transit Authority (Chicago). Try their album hit "Go Down Gamblin'." The late 1960's early 1970's became the battleground for such "big-band rockers" as Tower of Power (What is Hip?, This Time It's Real, many others) , Chase (Get it On in the Morning), Lighthouse (One Fine Morning) -- to name a few.
