So the first thing I told myself is to not expect the vocals to sound like the original. This is live and very difficult for any opera singer to do. Holy shit was I wrong. She not only sounded like the track, she was way better. Absolutely amazing. I will follow this singer.
@salvaduran7606
@salvaduran7606 2 жыл бұрын
One thing that is not present in the original track but greatly enhances the piece is the breathing between the notes. It makes even more painful and haunting but beatiful. In the game ost its just a smooth transition between different takes/notes and it has a more ethereal quality to it, but to me this is the far superior rendition of night unfurls.

I was actually at this very concert live, with front row seats! Even though this particular video gives me goosebumps and a huge sense of euphoria, seeing it live was completely different. It was unthinkable! It is impossible to describe. Hearing every tone, seeing every person mastering it's instrument and being able to distinguish all the sounds from each other while still being perceived as a perfect symbiosis of harmony... It was unbearably powerful! I have never in my life, not once, experienced a sensory overload like I did that night. And I'm suffering knowing that I probably won't be able to see them live again.

I had the honor of seeing this amazing woman perform this majestic song this past weekend in Malmö, Sweden together with Malmö Symfoni Orkester (the Malmö Symphony Orchestra)! I had the best seat, frontrow right in front of Sabina. Literally 2 meters away from her! It's an experience I will never forget! Still gets goosebumps thinking of it! The whole concert, Joystick 11.0 with compositions only from videogames was amazing! Seeing Sabina perform "Skyrim - The Dragonborn Comes" was equally as good as seeing her perform "Bloodborne - Suite"! The Joystick concerts is an annual event in Malmö. I will be there for sure next year!

Man I've been playing video games since 1992, Final Fantasy being my first game and to this day I quite could say that I am a "gamer" playing a couple of hours at least every single day. Many favorites have come and gone and many games still hold important and warm spots in my heart, but I do think that Bloodborne peaked at everything for me. From the amazing lore and story that isn't thrown around so often to the OST, the game is majestic. 5 years later and I also still play this game from time to time but more importantly listen to the OST on a constant. Indeed, what beautiful art.

@@remdolf07 Same for me man. Elden Ring came pretty damn close - and is easily game of the year for me. But Bloodborne is... something else. Everything about it is perfect, from the frenetic gameplay, to the incredible lore, to the foreboding gothic atmosphere, the hidden secrets and horrors, all capped off by the amazing soundtrack. It's almost unthinkable that a game gets more fascinating the more you replay it, but Bloodborne manages that. As you said it is true art, and if anyone says that games can't be art, then just point them to BB. Just amazing.

I wouldn't really say that video games _are_ "art," and I don't really understand why my fellow gamers obsess over whether video games qualify as "art" or not, either... The music in Bloodborne is definitely art, no doubt about it. The vistas in Bloodborne probably also qualify as works of art. As do many of Bloodborne's designs. But _Bloodborne itself_ is _not_ its music, nor is it its vistas or its designs, and Bloodborne is also not art just because there is art in it, either. Same goes with almost all other video games as well: They're more like museums in which you can find many artistic works rather than works of art themselves... yes, like museums... interactive museums that sometimes narrate your journey through them and sometimes say and/or do things that are absolutely mind blowing... And, in the end, you don't put a museum into another museum. I don't understand why my fellow gamers obsess over whether video games qualify as "art" or not, because it's quite clear to me that video games are a medium that, provided they're of the right genre and are well-made, have the potential to _transcend_ mere "art" and become something more, something much greater, than the sum of all their artistic parts... And, in the end, you don't put a museum into another, much less impressive, museum.
@slow9573
@slow9573 5 жыл бұрын
GrahamChapman I think you have a rather narrow view of art. There may be a hierarchy of arts, hence the classification “fine arts,” but that doesn’t make video games not art simply because they are not music or paintings. Art is that which attempts to connect humanity to the Beautiful. Literature is art, yet literature is not intended for visual display (though, I suppose there are certain books like the Book of Kells that is visually striking and quite beautiful looking). Many museums contain folk art, which tends to be more like common crafts but yet still beautiful. Video games may combine many more traditional arts, and video games may be lower on the hierarchy of arts (some types of art are better than others), but the transcendental quality that is beauty is clearly intended and realized in many games. It should be said as well that I would not argue that all video games are art, and many games are just bad art.
@GrahamChapman
@GrahamChapman 5 жыл бұрын
*+Dialectic* In much the same way as I have a rather narrow view of "music" as "a buch of noises that are often, but not always, set to/following some sort of rythm" and "paintings" as being "a visual medium that often, but not always, incorporates shapes and colours"? Sure, by that standard I suppose my view of art is "narrow," in much the same way as the Atlantic Ocean is "a very wide river." You know, your _entire comment_ is positively _full_ of examples that reveal just how little you understand what "art" is, and each and every one of your arguments underscore that you don't know enough about this topic to actually talk about what qualifies as art and what does not... First of all, "fine art" _does not_ imply hierarchy. There _is_ no "hierarchy" of art; either something is a work of art, or it is not, in much that same way that something is either a science, or it is not. "Fine art" is a _category,_ a _distiction,_ kinda like making a difference between "Heavy Metal" and "Classical Music." (Note: neither of which is superior to the other; I may not personally like his music but I'll be _damned_ before I tolerate _anyone_ saying that Alice Cooper isn't just as great as Johan Sebastian Bach.) To be more specific, "fine art" is a category developed primarily for aesthetics or beauty, neither of which holds any hierarchal superiority compared to more pragmatic and/or functional arts, like fashion or pottery... Secondly, art _is not_ "that which attempts to connect humanity to the Beautiful." In fact, beauty and/or people's appreciation for a piece of art has _nothing_ to do with whether something qualifies as art or not. Art is that which humans use to express themselves, and whether the results are aesthetically pleasing/beautiful or not is irrelevant. As such, the results of a toddler smearing paint all over a wallpaper qualifies just as much as "art" as one of Michelangelo's paintings do (though the toddler's work of art is unlikely to be met with the same level of appreciation, approval and acclaim as Michalangelo's most basic doodles did)... _All_ literature is art, (yes, even that waste of toilet paper, "50 Shades of Gray,") but not all video games have even the semblance of a chance to be considered "art." The _scripts_ of all video games with enough of a plot to have scripts on the other hand? Yeah, they qualify as art. Video games _are not_ "lower on the hierarchy of arts." First of all because _there is no such thing_ as a "hierarchy of arts," and the idea that "some types of art are better than others" is fallacious, if not outright offensive. Secondly because, well, video games are not art. So, you know, your assertion there was fundamentally incorrect on just about every concievable level. (Seriously though, I'm beginning to suspect that one of your primary problems when it comes to comprehending this topic is your pro-elitistic "some things are better than others" position. At this point I'm almost half expecting you to claim something along the lines of "some sciences are higher on the hierarchy of science than others." Either something is a science, or it isn't. Either something is an art, or it isn't. Doesn't matter if one science is more advanced/complicated/complex than another, and it doesn't matter if one art form is more beautiful/precise/demanding or whatever than another, all sciences are still all equal, and all art forms are still all equal.) There is only _one_ game that I would be willing to enter a debate or argument over it qualifying as "art," and that's Undertale. And I wouldn't debate it possibly counting as "art" because it's beautiful/aesthetically pleasing (because, let's be honest, it really isn't), teaches some basic morality and makes people _care_ about behaving morally, emotionally connects with people, has kickass music or, well, anything like that, but rather because it (1. explores video games as a medium in such depth that the Undertale itself couldn't have been told through any other medium other than as a video game, and (2. addresses video games and their players in a meta way that no video game before Undertale has ever done before... In layman's terms; once you've _started_ playing Undertale, you can never _stop_ playing Undertale... And that's why I want to find someone who's thoroughly of the position that Undertale _does not_ qualify as art, so that I may debate the matter with them and get some of their perspectives on art, Undertale and video games in general... Until then, I'll maintain that video games are as little an art form as chemistry is.

Okay. Music is art. Story writing is art. Weaving both together is art no longer. Got it. You know. You compared a game with a museum. But this is not correct. A museum displays paintings or other stuff. The paintings may be sorted after a theme or so, but every piece of art in this museum is a piece of art on its own. A game is a little different. Did you bother to check the lyrics of the theme of the cleric beast? The lyrics connect with the lore of Bloodborne and do not stand alone. Did you bother to check the vistas inside the nightmares and how they connect to the metaphor I made an allusion to in my first comment? Would you say that a painting, that is only complete if you put four paintings together, is a piece of art?

I was raised listening to classical music by my Gran- Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Bach, etc. I've always had an immense appreciation for a good orchestral piece. Games like Bloodborne and Dark Souls just hit the right spot. It's like Lightning coursing through my bones, its amazing. A few Months ago, a friend of mine said "I mean, All the boss themes blend together. They're all just Instruments going crazy and someone screaming, its basically all the same". I legit almost choked. How anyone can't differentiate between the uniqueness of the different themes is beyond me.

@@88qwop Dark Souls had some dodgy areas, and the bed of chaos. But Bloodborne... there's little nothing bad I can say about it. Maybe the chalice dungeons are a bit dull and repetitive, but they're entirely optional, and they at least throw in some cool new bosses.

At this point I'm pretty sure I'm obsessed with bloodborne, but I don't see a problem with that. The ost is just one of the most amazing scores of music I've heard. The gameplay and story(from what you can gather up) is just awesome. The ost alone kicks ass but when you're fighting a boss for the first time and the score picks up it just gives you feelings that nothing else can. My heart legit starts pounding in my chest and just makes you walk away afterwards with a rush of feelings and accomplishment. I've never had DS game be my number one because it never did that for me. All be it that Numbers 1-3 are absolutely amazing and are all fun but never made me feel the way I do about bloodborne. BB is my favorite game of all time. People might say that the graphics and gameplay is what makes it a superb game but in my eyes it's the ost and the style of it that makes it good. It obviously has the amazing graphics and gameplay but that's just icing on a bloody cake. Amazing work by the composer, instrumentalists, and vocals!

One aspect that is easily forgotten and makes this performance even better, is how they chose to light the vocalist. From behind, so there is a shadow on her face. Makes it even more haunting.

Bloodborne was my first souls game. I can say without a doubt, it’s one of my favorite games of all time. I loved everything about it. The setting, the storyline, the combat, and of course the music. At first I quit this game because I was bad, but after playing elden ring and with so much improvement I went back to bloodborne and I ended up beating the game. I hope one day Sony will give more appreciation to this game by rereleasing the game with 60 FPS on ps5 and pc or maybe do a sequel. Bravo to Sony and Fromsoftware for creating this masterpiece of a game.
