@Grizabeebles7 жыл бұрын
Well the Street Fighter Game first came out in 1987 and Street Fighter 2 came out in 1991. Mortal Kombat came out in 1992. So really, when you factor in production and how long it took for fighting games to become popular in the U.S. Bloodsport not only predates but probably _inspired_ a lot of MK and SF. Especially the later editions of the games.

No mention at all that this film became the initial idea spark for the Mortal Kombat game? They originally were even going to have Van Damme be the star in the game, until talks broke down, and they ended up spoofing him with the Johnny Cage character. It's also the reason Cage has the signature "split punch" move (9:17).
@frankchukwumah94773 жыл бұрын
I think that's where they got Johnny cage character from.

Oliver really honest review of this movie. Yes it's cheesy and yes it's totally B grade but it launched JCVD's career and reminds me of being a kid and just being so in aware of the action. The movie is a classic if you're into martial art movies of the 80's and just has something will always make me wanna watch again. Good review mate. The one thing about this film, that had never really been done before (or since) as far as I'm aware - is show various martial arts from around the world. Capoeira, Karate, Kick-Boxing, Muay Thai, various forms of Kung Fu... etc. I remember the character 'Paco' being a 'dirty' fighter; but he looked authentic. Jackson was a great side-kick (no pun intended), Bolo was a great bad guy.... As you say, the guy in the Karate style Gi is hilarious throwing those lame hay-makers about six feet above his opponents head. It's and 80's classic this movie, one of those straight-to-video gems that will always remain a guilty pleasure.
@Judicial785 жыл бұрын
Part of the magic of bloodsport was back when it came out nobody knew that most of those martial arts were bullshit, so there was a mystical nature to the movie. That myticism is forever lost now, and will never be experienced again.

I use to LOVE this movie when I was a kid. It helped motivate me to begin studying martial arts when I was no older than about 8 or so (back in 89'). I was disheartened to find out that it was LYING with that whole "based on a true story" bit, and that Dux was a "sham". Nevertheless, I've now been involved in various styles of boxing, grappling, traditional, and mixed martial arts for a little over 30 years now. It (martial arts) has enriched my life, and has had a positive affect on me that has been INVALUABLE, and THIS MOVIE (along with Chan's and Lee's of course) was part of the catalyst that got me started... Great review!! Thanks for the nastalgia!! 👍
