I have been watching your channel for maybe less than a year. I have seen you grow in confidence each time you film. Keep it up! I have started to learn more about regenerative farming thanks to you. I don’t know how you have the hours in the day to accomplish all that you do. I have been dabbling in flower farming on my changeling land in zone 4 USA with numerous deer for over 20 years (while rearing four children). I am envious of your mild climate but find inspiration from you and your fellow UK flower farmers and am speaking out about the US consumption of peat. I am trying to spread the word about going peat free. My area of studying in college was forest resources and have been a self taught gardener since I discovered violets in my parents lawn when I was young. Well enough about that. About the problem with aphids on the lupine. We had a summer cottage in Maine where lupine grew along the roadside etc. My thoughts and some experience is when grown in rich soil and as a crop they are more prone to aphid attack. My suggestion is to grow lupine in hedgerow/in multi species beds with low fertility. Best of luck for this growing season.

For the aphids, just dissolve some dish soap, spray on them m, rinse after about 1/2 hr. Works for me.

You might try neem oil to combat your aphids. It must be the sort containing Azadirachtin. 2 tbsp neem + 2 tbsp pure Castile soap in 1 gallon of water. Spray 3 times at weekly intervals. For smaller infestations 1 tsp of each in 1 pint of water. Happy sowing, growing and harvesting

I loved that you hadn’t moved the plants due to a big spider! I have a load living in my strawberry polytunnel. Only ever see them when I water in there 😀

Haha I don’t mind spiders when they’re minding their own business but I will not tolerate them crawling on me, so I’m not risking it 😂

Hi I’m a flower farmer in Lancashire I can’t get my straw flowers to germinate this year either. I have found the most fantastic antirrium that started flowering in June last year and have continued to flower ever since they are amazing and are about to give me another year or flowers . Love to keep in touch to compare note’s .Jackie Armer

If you Chelsey chop you could start more plants from the cuttings and they would have thinner stems. We’re having a very hot spring here in my zone 8 garden in the US. 90 degrees days when I have so much yet to plant is really making getting all my garden jobs finished very difficult. To see you in a coat in the rain makes me envious. Things are looking so good in your gardens. Thanks for sharing.

You are a very busy lady. Sorry to hear of the aphids on the lupins. They are gorgeous in bouquets! ( ... that's the lupins, not the aphids, lol!) This year I have alot on the go and seem to have figured out how to germinate Bells of Ireland, which is exciting for me. However, I had a death in the family this spring, and my seedling neglect cost me 90% of my Lisianthus 😢 Oh well, as you say, live and learn. 😁

I am Chelsea chopping my sedum for the first time this season. My hope was for more useable stems and less flopped over plants for those that stay in my landscape. Glad Im not the only one thinking of using this technique on them.

Love your farm tours Sarah! Lots of china asters just sprouting, snapdragons, larkspur are budding up. My nemesis is bupleurem, have tried 5 batches and not one germinated. My real success this year was bells of Ireland. Germinated it in a wet paper towel!

Also look into parasitic wasps for aphids as a bio control. They lays eggs inside the aphids making the mummies until they hatch. It doesn't wipe them out completely but it is a great control.

So much on the go! I’ve sown snaps three times this year and now have a few, scabious sown twice and strawflower germination was very patchy. However, my first success with larkspur this year. You just can’t tell. That amaranth looks astonishing!
