I have them.......Connected them to bryston mono blocks 1100 watts each.....But was blown away when I used an 80's receiver with much better results!

I feel the same way. Hooked mine up to a Sansui Eight Deluxe and a Sansui Six. Was blown away how much better they sounded versus a modern amp.

I auditioned a pair of mission 770 speakers in October of 2023. I was immediately impressed by the sound and had the same thought,,that these could be my end game speakers. 5k is a bit pricey but who knows.

Thanks for your great and enthusiastic review. The Mission 770 will definitely be on my short list. I love the look, and hoping they live up to the hype. Any suggestions for an amp that would pair well with them?

The 770 has a lower-than-average sensitivity -- 84.5dB -- but higher-than-normal impedance, being mostly above 6 ohms. As a result, it's not a challenging load for an amplifier, so you don't have to worry much about the amp's ability below, say, 4 ohms, as with many speakers. But because of the lower sensitivity and the 770's ability to play very load, I'd look for at least 100Wpc into 8 ohms, but more than 200Wpc into 8 ohms is probably overkill.

I am running these with a Rogue Audio Pharaoh II (w/Dark upgrades -250W/ch) and really enjoy the combination. Not overkill. Just punchy, lively, and fun! Great dynamics and surprising bass!

I own a Mark II yellow spider set of Mission 770 speakers that I Inherited. Its in very immaculate condition. Only thing that I need to do over is the speaker covers, common problem with them all. The sound is out of this world. I mated it to a Luxman L-116a amp from the same era. The second set of speakers is a set of Denon M71 that help balance out the room. The sound track from Blade runner 2049 is a great to test low base. It handle it very well. But if a comparison came up with a old set of 770 and a new set it would be great to hear. Alex

Hi can U do a review between the new Mission 770 speaker and the old Mission 770 of the 1979/80. Would like a review and how they compare
@dougschneider8243
@dougschneider8243 3 ай бұрын
Hi... that's pretty difficult if not impossible to do because: 1) you'll have trouble finding a 770 that old, and 2) even if you do, it's likely not going to be in working condition or it'll be way out of spec.

I audition the missions along with the revel 226be at my home. I ended up going with the revels simply because I got the revels at a cheaper price than the missions, revel has a great sale on now. I would have been happy with either one though.
@dougschneider8243
@dougschneider8243 8 ай бұрын
Price can do that! But Revel makes great speakers, too. But I am curious, did you find they sounded more different than similar, or vice versa?
@matthewfrazee3352
@matthewfrazee3352 8 ай бұрын
@@dougschneider8243 it was room dependent. If I used in a small room I preferred the the revels, a larger room the missions, maybe the missions had slightly more bass output? However, with Dirac and subs I thought the revels were better. I was surprised that the mission midrange was surprising similar to revels. The higher frequencies it depended on recordings with the missions seemed to be the more forgiving of poorly recorded material and maybe on well recorded material the revels gave more detail. Without subs and Dirac I probably would have gone mission. I did prefer the old school looks and walnut veneer of the missions.

@@dougschneider8243 if I didn’t have a higher powered integrated, the nad m33, I would have gone with the missions. On my antique Marantz 2270 the missions were excellent and with the revels the Marantz struggled.

I think the price difference between the 770’s and the Linton’s is at least partially attributed to the fact that the 770’s are made in England whereas the Linton’s are made in China. Same goes for the Wharfedale Dovedale’s….their UK manufacturing makes them way more expensive.

We think it would definitely factor in.

No doubt that the UK manufacturing has resulted in a priced that's higher than if it were manufactured in, say, China. But still, for $5000/pair, outstanding speaker.

Well I hope these sound better than the new 700. They are awful sounding compared to my KLH MODEL 5. I'll run my KLH MODEL 5 against the 770 all day long at half the price.

For that kind of money I would expect binding posts that allow bi-amping.
@dougschneider8243
@dougschneider8243 8 ай бұрын
I hate to break the news to you, but bi-wire/bi-amp capability has only a little to do with cost and nothing to do with sound quality. You can find cheap speakers with dual sets of binding posts that you can bi-wire or bi-amp with. But it all depends on the speaker design in terms of having any benefit. Also, seemingly few realize that if you bi-amp a speaker, you have to have amps with the exact same gain or you'll have a mismatch. If you use the same brand and model, you're likely fine, but if you use two different models or two different brands, all bets are off. So in short, money really has nothing to do with a speaker having dual sets of terminals. Hope that helps.

@@dougschneider8243 Okay thanks for the advice. My Tannoy Dual Concentrics most definitely sound better when bi-amped. Regarding power amplifiers, mine have no make or model number. However, they do look and sound identical.
@dougschneider8243
@dougschneider8243 8 ай бұрын
@@jimdavis5230 No make or model number? That's strange. Are they the same kind of amplifier? That said, whether biamping will make a difference will depend a lot on the design of the speaker itself. But I am wondering -- are you using tube amps?
@jimdavis5230
@jimdavis5230 8 ай бұрын
@@dougschneider8243 No make or model number because I am a retired electronics engineer. I designed and built them to very high technical standards. The output devices are Exicon lateral power mosfets. The amplifiers are direct coupled to my dac and have no capacitors in the signal path. I set the voltage gain of each amplifier to exactly 23 and used high precision resistors in the negative feedback potential divider to achieve gain accuracy. I will admit there is a snag with bi-amping. Seems to make the speakers so revealing that good recordings sound wonderful and poor recordings sound absolutely dreadful.

I’ll go for a totally 👍 different loudspeakers with half the price and of course a totally different sound quality: Magnepan MG-1.7i 👍✨💎🎶♾️🎼🎵🫡🇺🇸🫡 Proudly Made in the USA 🇺🇸 that means the profit will stay in the USA 🇺🇸 AND NOT CHINA 🇨🇳
@dougschneider8243

Where stuff gets made can be an important buying consideration, obviously. The Wharfedale Linton Heritage is made in China. The Mission 770 is made in the UK. However, they belong to the same parent company, which is in China. That aside, Magnepan makes very decent speakers -- but also, of course, very different speakers than most.
