Blue Bird School Bus Regeneration

In 2013 SCR became standard on Cummins engines in school buses. The SCR system along with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) is used to meet emissions standards. The DPF collects soot (particulate) and has to be cleaned out when the soot reaches a certain level. This video describes the process and what a driver will see when regeneration is occurring. Also how a technician can do a forced regeneration if normal driving conditions don’t allow a passive regeneration to occur.

Thank you for posting this! I'm driving a bus for a 4 day activities trip that is 400 miles from our mechanic. Regen took 27 minutes.

Im a driver in ny and when the regen sign comes on, the mechanic showed me how to lift up the hood and turn lift nd hold the lever on the right. when you hear the engine idiling high, you let it run until its finish cleaning, the regen ( cloud of smoke sign, will go off) hve a blessed day fellow comrades in the imdustry.

what would be the problem if you are trying to do a manual regen and you flip the switch but the engine idle does not go up?

How long you need to keep the engine idling after lift and hold the lever on the right. when you hear the engine idiling high? IOW how long does it take for this regen to complete? I tried doing it once but then the regen required appeared again after 3 hrs driving.

Hello dear I have a question for you. Is ti true that if you warm up the bus for a long time the bus creates some sort of debrief and for that reason the bus gets damaged?

Twice a day is excessive. Depending on the typical duty cycle, mileage, and idle hours of the unit you may need to remove the filter and have it cleaned.
