1:04 Rare instance of a quick trumpet part with staccatos and accents being played in unison very well. It is SO close to sounding like just one Trumpet, which is something you hear percussionists striving for, making 10 snares sound like one. But Trumpets have never been this clean in any dci show I’ve seen.

This show is crazy from a design perspective and a technical perspective. I noticed a lot of people not understanding the design of this show, theres a really cool documentary that the Blue Devils put out explaining some of the design ideas of the show, and its honestly really cool. Tilt is one of my favorite shows ever and i still think this show deserved to win and is completely brilliant both technically and design wise. Drum corps is art and everyone likes their art differently, so i understand why people dont really like this show but ive seen people getting into full blown arguments over this show and its honestly pretty sad. Just let people like and dislike what they do :)

0:10 Mystical music transports us to a movie set, or a faraway countryside in Italy with a traveling circus in town. Is it real? Or a dream? 0:21 Holds his hands like a DP framing the picture 0:22 Backstage costume area 0:39 Hat has camera aperture like a movie camera 0:39 Theme from La Strada about the circus 1:00 Cast in their underwear, chaotic film set 1:05 Ridiculous introduction goes on, and on and on, what kind of a production is this?! 1:43 Still the introduction, like a circus intro building suspense, an impossibly grand setup that can never pay off, and can only crumble into disappointment. 1:48 The doom strikes. The grim reality of life, the deadly peril of the circus, the harsh realities of performers on the road, scraping for food, risking injury and even death. 1:53 flags with celluloid film printed on them. 2:09 Reels of film on the bass drums 2:32 Front man slates the action, just like a film 3:05 Reel to reel film drill set, a piece is being edited in. The film is being assembled as we watch. 3:57 A suicidal circus clown. No one will help him. Not the church, not the polizia, not the circus owner. Mysterious angel with a black umbrella (possibly Cabiria from Nights of Cabiria, a whore) saves him. 4:07 He limps toward the edge of the abyss, but the ground keeps extending in front of him, saving him from jumping off the edge, to his death. 4:35 Dancers support their romantic partners, who are almost limp, like puppets. 5:19 He gets to the edge ready to jump, and she saves him. 5:21 Wait, a sudden change of expression. Was this all a circus act? Or a real suicide? 5:43 Circus jugglers, dancing girls 6:01 Horns on tightropes, a circus act, a reference to BD’s show Constantly Risking Absurdity where they walked a tightrope 7:33 Audience applauds as if at a circus 7:55 Slate again 8:27 Women seduce, taking you away from your directing job 9:17 Three ring circus 9:40 Script reading around a table. 9:50 Now the men perform for the women, seated, equal opportunity sexual harassment 10:20 The circus leaves town, a company front going in the wrong direction-- a grand, beautiful mistake leading nowhere 10:40 Claudia Cardinale, the actress, Fellini’s leading lady, mysterious, beautiful , an illusion 10:49 Reel to reel film again 11:44 the cast of characters assembles to honor Fellini, who never shows up, he forgot his pants 11:46 Claudia Cardinale is welcomed, as if at a premiere 11:50 Strips of film are flags 11:56 Claudia’s famous white scarf, miles long, an illusion 12:15 In Humanism, to which Fellini subscribed, there's a belief is that God is an unknown entity, and may not exist at all. Instead, value the clowns and experiences in your life. It’s all we have. 12:15 Fellini’s chair is empty. There is no god to save us. We only have pantless actors, clowns, dancing women and frauds in our lives to add meaning. 12:29 In the background, a stagehand on a ladder holds a white scarf, same as Claudia Cardinale's, same as the white strips of film, but making a DP's camera frame out of the white scarf- a bent and broken frame, a warped window view of Fellini's skewed, flawed, beautiful world.

I'd say this is an improvement over their 2022 and 2023 shows. While the front ensemble and some horn soloists are amplified, the entire hornline and drumline are not amplified, resulting in a better sound. Furthermore, although the uniforms are derived from 1988 Sky Ryders, they exhibit an air of dignity that current generation uniforms lack.

12:29 A symbol with layered meaning rests in the background. Notice in the backfield, on the ladder, a stage hand holds a long white scarf, much like Claudia Cardinale's scarf in the foreground, and much like the long strips of white celluloid film scattered in the background, except this scarf is held in the shape of a camera frame, slightly warped and bent, Fellini's skewed vision of a beautiful, broken world. The fabric represents three things-- her scarf, a strip of film, and a skewed DP's frame, all three. Breathtaking design.

watch any modern bluecoats show and then come back to us whining about props ☠️ i don’t see why people complain about props, most of the time it’s people saying they miss “real dci” but they should at least be glad that DCI is evolving and isn’t a dead activity
@MicahtheDrumCorpsPseudoboomer
@MicahtheDrumCorpsPseudoboomer Ай бұрын
@@gm_construct_13_betaexplor38 And here's where the gosh darned nuance comes into play. You hate it, I hate it, everyone hates it. Evolution is not inherently bad, but when it comes at the expense of certain cool aspects of years prior, I get annoyed. I much prefer my shows to have no props whatsoever, so the drill design can be more appreciated and the drill designer can take full advantage of all 100 yards. A couple of props here and there doesn't bother me too much, but the state of props in the current activity drives me bonkers! As another example, when synthesizers were initially introduced in 2009, they didn't bother me all that much because (except for 2009 Crossmen) they were used to supplement the fantastic horns and drums and acousticportionofthepit work rather than replace it. That would change in the mid-2010s, and not for the better. As another another example, front ensemble amplification was legalized in 2004, but it wouldn't be until 2008 that every single corps (not counting the open class corps) had it, and some corps did some cool things with it. 06 Capital Regiment amplified a typewriter to evoke the atmosphere of a 1960s office, 07 Pacific Crest amplified a deck of cards to evoke the atmosphere of a casino (along with some hilariously cheesy narration), 04 Blue Devils and 08 Troopers had some cool train sound effects, and 07 Bluecoats speaks for itself. The legalization of synthesizers in 2009 killed off these innovations, while some horn soloists started to get amplified, but only those that needed to be amplified (i.e. when the rest of the ensemble was playing at forte or beyond) used it. Fastforward to 2023, and everything is amplified--the front ensemble, all horn soloists, the horns, and the drums--whether they need it or not! Ironically, 2023 Bluecoats was the only corps to not amplify the entire horns and drums. My point is that limitations breed creativity, and current generation drum corps don't seem to understand that. What those exact limitations should be is up for debate.

It's a rote corps with amazing talent that only cares about getting first place...blah blah blah." The drum major for our band was sitting near me and heard me saying all of this, she started getting mad and saying I was too harsh and that one of her really good friends was in Blue Devils. Later that day we were talking about DCI with some other people and someone said, "Oh did you know (one of the guys in my section) marched Blue Devils?" A dude who was literally sitting next to me while I ranted at lunch, who I thought was a really cool dude. Next sectional practice I went up and said, "I didn't mean to be harsh about the corps you marched in man I'm just opinionated, I'm surprised you didn't say anything." He laughed and said, "I didn't say anything because you were right."

It's weird how I can look at this and say it's a great, well-made show, but it doesn't have that "engaging" factor. Like I come back to this once every couple of years when I'm bored, but I put on Tilt several times a week to feel the adrenaline rush.

Ok swear im not a hater....but im 3 min in and i've found 4 dressing errors, 3 flags out of sync and a few intonation issues....99.650? '02 Cavs were faaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrr better....like...what?

Well... 02 Cavs and this show didn't compete against each other. Can't really compare scores from over a decade apart. Blue Devils got a 99.65 because they were 2.175 better than Bluecoats who happened to get a 97.175 and 2nd place, not because they were .5 better than the 2002 Cavaliers

People are entitled to have their own opinion and hold such ideas such as this show being the best show of all time, however I have never understood why people like this show so much I just can’t get behind it

It was obviously performed extremely well, as blue devils members are usually peak performers, I just don’t exactly like the show design itself

To each their own of course I think that it’s probably because it’s unique in a way that not many other corps have done this film sort of approach like with the cameras and concept of cut and action etc in the show maybe? And yea I’m not a huge bd fan but something about it personally makes me like it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Amanda Brewer Tilt can be better..............as long as the Blue Devils are/were 2014 DCI Champions. The word "Better" is not part of the scoring sheets.

It was good show, a great show even. But I'm gonna need some of all on here to stop. If you want the most yechivally difficult ans perfectly executed drill, re The Cavaliers 2000 with Niagara Falls. If you want the show with the greatest sheer ambition, re The Cavaliers 2002. If you want the best music, re Phantom Regiment 2008. No shade to them, but i just dont see it personally, but then again, i ain't nobody.

i dunno in my opinion if you want best music i would say maybe crown 2015 or 2011. but if you’re talking about before the 2010s, then definitely phantom 08
