I've been using a Blue encore 100 live for years. Love it. I'm the bassist in my bands so I do lots of backups. This mic is built like a tank. Even before Covid, I always brought my own mic...being diabetic, getting sick really sucks.

The Blue Encore 100 needs a lot more gain than the Shure Beta 58a. Less bass and more articulate. It's handling noise is a lot more predominant also, I'd say twice as noisy as the Beta. It does look great!

But the only difference between the black one and the grey one is the color? The grey one is an older version isn't it? because it doesn't appear in the Blue's web page

At the time when I purchased this, it was available in both colors. The only difference was the color. It seems the grey has disappeared from their site. It's a shame because I think it's a nice option.

The gray one is the older one. I got mine when it came out and I believe it was the only option at the time. I picked up the 100i (the 57 version) a little later and it was black. Been using gray one ever since I got it. Love it.
