I much prefer this version of the song than the more sinister, rapey one in the newer West End version. That version made them seem just awful and honestly made their death seem justified. It was literally attempted rape. In this version is was guys being creepy, but but playful and drunk. It also highlights their weirdly close relationship with each other which is important because that helps sell the lie that they were gay lovers (or as some people theorize, they actually were). It makes their death much less justified and that’s why Veronica freaks out so much more over this murder because she knows it was totally wrong.
